EXO’s Xiumin has been discharged from the military!

On December 6, Xiumin posted the following photos and a handwritten message on Lysn.




In his message, Xiumin wrote, “Everyone, I’ve been discharged. Have you all been healthy and well? Thank you so much for waiting for me. We’ve gone through a hard time. Hard times are over! Happy times begin~”

After enlisting in May 2019, Xiumin took his final leave this November and was discharged directly from home today without returning to the army base due to COVID-19 prevention measures.

Xiumin is EXO’s oldest member and now the first member to complete his mandatory military service. D.O. enlisted last July and will be the next member to be discharged in January 2021. Suho joined the army this May and Chen this October.



Xiumin will be greeting fans on VLIVE on 12.12.20 at 7 p.m kst for his "Let It Xiunow" event.

"Xiumin" is Chinese, right, like "Kai" -- so why is it pronounced "shoe min" and not "show min"? I wondered if the event is called "Let it show now". (For that matter, what does "Xiumin" mean? Or "Chen"?)

Chen's meaning is Morning star. Xiumin is the hanja Xiu added to the Min from his real name which is Minseok and means great jade-like stone.Its not a native Chinese name as far as I know, even when he would be on Chinese shows they'd spell it in english in subtitles. The pronounciation is based off the Korean spelling of Xiumin and how he himself has said it since debut

Thank you! I went poking around and found how Xiumin is written in Mandarin: 琇珉. Both characters seem to mean some kind of jade. Maybe it's easier for a Korean speaker to say "shoe" than "show"?
