BTS' performance was fun. The "Black Swan" intro with Jimin and Jungkook, the "Dynamite" dance break with Hobi, the "On" intro where they recreated their first appareance at the MMA. It still felt a bit disjointed because the songs they chose didn't go together, but they looked so good (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
See you tomorrow for the MAMA !

Question: Do Korean shows has attendance as a criteria to win, or is it just common knowledge? I mean is it in the rule book that artists most be in attendance to have a chance of winning?

It’s not an official requirement, and for big award shows like this I think it’s more a case of ‘we just won’t invite you if you’re not going to win’ as the awards are based on sales and judges scores etc so they can’t really fudge them that much, whereas smaller award shows like the one we had last week that aren’t under as much scrutiny just essentially split all the awards between whoever signs up to attend and don’t care too much about actual fairness/talent.

no, attendance has nothing to do with end of the year awards criteral .. its pettier than that

its more about internal conflicts between certain network and certain kpop agency

agencies know in advance they dont have a chance so they dont show up to ceremonies

for example jyp has problems with MMA organization so they dont nominate jyp artists to those awards therefor jyp artist wont even attend those awards lol its not about

same happens to yg for mamas and so on

i have no idea but if you ask to fandoms they always have a really long explanation to why top-tier groups skip some specific award ceremony

hah and Baek Yerin winning after she left JYPE makes it even more obvious about the feuding lol

yeah.. why so petty? 😅

That is what it seemed like to me, but I thought they'd add attending as a criteria to lure companies to make their artists show up, but they're too shameless they don't care to hide their pettiness.

I know these end of years award shows need boy groups to get views but they would be better served to keep the top prizes as awarded by judges scores + streams only. IU should have rightfully won a lot of those awards in years past. But I can’t argue that BTS didn’t deserve all three top awards this year. Because any metric you use they would still have won. But it is ironic that in years past when certain groups consistently won year after year no one did the pearl clutching we are currently seeing.

That Blacksawn and Dynamite dance break where pretty amazing. Jimin and Jungkook dancing even a tiny bit of a traditional pas de deux together was kinda amazing.

holy shit, 2nd year in a row with the sweep.

and here I am just dreaming 24/7 about SHINee even getting another daesang again when they have just the one (I know the chances are unlikely with the competition now, not bc of the quality of their music, even at their peak they couldn't get more than one) bc I still cry to their acceptance speech. I didn't watch this year but i'll try to tune in for the first time next year which hopefully everything will be live again with everybody there.

speaking of award shows, excited to wake up @ 4am to watch MAMA for the first time tomorrow morning for Taemin. :)

happy for Baek Yerin, IZ*ONE and IU. wondered if Baek Yerin managed to perform though. I only found out it was live till quite late, and only saw the iz*one performance before it got cut off.

the bts performance was, i agree, a bit disjointed, but it was fun to see them refer back to their earlier performances and eras. the black swan dance break was goooorgeous, exactly what the song deserves. bless the foreheads during on :))) the styling being pretty good overall, taehyung looking like a prince during life goes on! the dynamite suits!! JUNG HOSEOK! his dancing is amazing

it was cute how yoongi is never fully forgotten during his hiatus, like how they left a space for him at the end of the on performance.

congrats to the winners! (but where was twice???)
