Happy Friday! Quick post because I’m tired and I’m feeling all blah. Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick up two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s go back to the 2nd week in November, 2010. All the songs have been posted before so we’ll see some live stages this week.

#3 Girls’ Generation “Hoot”
I loved this era soooo much. That choreo? That styling? That big hair? That choreo? Ugh, A DREAM. This was the lead single of the EP of the same name, and the album would be one of the biggest sellers of the year.

#2 2AM “You Wouldn’t Answer My Calls”
I mainly remember this era not by the song, but by the belted suits. I was all “???” and I’m still like that 10 years later. This was the lead single off of the group’s first album. The album would peak in the top three, with this lead single hitting the top spot.

#1 Huh Gak “Always”
This was his debut single, released about a month after he won the second season of the show Superstar K. The song would take peak at #1, and his first mini album would chart in the top ten.

Honorable Mentions

#5 PSY “Right Now”

This is my favorite PSY song. It was one of the singles from his “PsyFive” album, which was his first album under YG. The song was banned by the Ministry of Gender Equality for the line "Life is like toxic alcohol" lol. Didn’t stop the song from topping the charts, winning awards at the year end shows, and performing it here, at a free concert at Seoul Plaza.

#9 Kara “Jumping”
A song that has never not been on my workout playlist. This song was almost simultaneously released in both Korea and Japan. And the song would peak in the top three in both countries. Ugh they are so gorgeous! And all the body rolls and little booty pops! I miss them so much.

Such a good time to be a kpop fan. So many goodies.

SNSD - that hair color on Tiffany was horrendous.

2AM - I had a solid 6 months of being obsessed with 2AM.

PSY - THIS SONG. It's what introduced me to PSY. The MV was hilarious. and the song was catchy, perfect for working out. You gotta respect PSY's hustle.

KARA - I think I listened more to the Japanese version for some reason. I just liked it more. But dang. this song. Miss it. what is Nicole Jung up to now-a-days. She released one mini with her new company years ago and then completely disappeared.

Tiffany's hair was a travesty. I have yet to see a shade of blonde that I like on Tiffany. It is just not her colour.

Tiffany has only seemed to suit black and brown thus far though, she needs to stay away from bright colours

I agree so strongly with this. Honestly, my favorite has been short black hair on her. It made her look young and fresh.

Dark haired Fany is the best Fany! 😍 Her haircut in RDR was EVERYTHING! 🤩

I am still pressed that we didn't see much of Tiffany's short hair in Mr.Mr because I've always wanted her to rock an asymmetrical bob 🥺

Jumping is such a great Kara song. I always wondered why the choreo was different for the Korean version? I think the Japanese version came out first, and there used to be a "jump" part in the dance during the chorus, but they changed it for the Korean version.

Nicole's career is puzzling to me as well. I feel like she could have really had a great solo career. All she does now is pilates and eat. lol

maybe that's why I liked the japanese version more. Because it came out first. and usualyl whichever version I hear first is that one I listen to more.

Nicole really could have had a solid solo career. To my knowledge, she was generally well liked by the general public (thank Star Golden Bell). But didn't she have crazy stage parents who controlled her or something? Or got too involved in her contract negotiations? I want to say that soured people's perception of her. I also want to say she was kinda the face of the 3 girls not re-signing. I think she got more hate than the others. So it became her fault for KARA's downfall. (I could be misremembering so PLEASE take this with a grain of salt).

Ohh I have no clue about her parents. Was she the one who left Kara first? I honestly don't remember.

I want to say I saw something on her IG story or something where she said she was working on music, but I could just be imagining that lol.

Hoot I thought was boring when it came out, but I appreciate it more now. It’s still not a fave but far from a least favorite and it’s catchy, I’m a sucker for the styling and overall vibe it had

JUMPING!!!! I love that song :))))))) it’s so good! Quintessential Kpop right there. I was obsessed back in the day, and while I don’t listen to it as much now - it has a super place in my heart ❤️ Lemme go play it now

Yes! Like I wasn't wowed by Hoot when it was first released, but that didn't stop me from learning the choreo and bopping to that song every time I hear it lol I really loved the concept too! The outfits were lovely! Not my fave song by them but very iconic.

Jumping jumping jumping out! Definitely one of their best songs!

HOOT HOOT HOOT! SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!

I learned the choreo for this song! Absolutely loved this era just for the iconic outfits. Soshi slayed me here! It was one of the first comebacks I watched after seeing their Japanese concert footage.

Jumping is one of my fave KARA songs! Loooovvvvveeeeeeeeeedddddd this era for them! "Nothing better only you!"

Right Now is one of my fave PSY songs, I love how high energy he is when he performs!

I’ve always preferred the Japanese version of Jumping to the Korean version, but I think 2010 was a year of Kara becoming bigger so I’m still pleased for their growth that year.

Hoot my first comeback as a Sone, the teasers and MV were nice but the song didn’t last in my head as their other title tracks (and the era wasn’t so pleasant so it’s not something I look fondly upon). The intro music is iconic though.

What happened during that era? I never followed SNSD that closely to know the behind the scene stuff besides some of the common knowledge stuff put out by fans over the years

My memory may not be so good, but I remembered that Tiffany had an injury shortly after MV was released and it put her out for quite some time (enough for her to learn Japanese better though). And Yuri had her weight loss period which she became as skinny as Yoona, which was worrying. It was also the period when the girls started promoting in Japan so it was pretty hectic and tiring for them in general.

There was also Sooyoung’s fillers thing (not exactly a “bad” incident), which her cheeks suddenly puffed up during that period (think it included Genie Japanese MV), which made her look off. But then it settled after and she looked great in 2011 (circa Mr Taxi and The Boys)
