What's new ? NCT lands its first entry on the Billboard 200, as "Resonance, Pt. 1", debuts at No. 6 with 43,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, 40,000 comprise album sales, a little under 3,000 comprise SEA units, and a negligible sum in TEA units.
BTS' "Skool Luv Affair" is back in the charts at No. 12. The mini-album came out in February 2014 and was re-printed again this October after Big Hit conducted a survey on Weverse to determine which out-of-stock or out-of-print albums fans most wanted to see re-released. Funnily enough, this is their 12th album to enter the charts.

  • BTS' "Dynamite" is No. 7 (from No.5 last week)

  • "Ice Cream" with Selena Gomez is No. 84 (No. 72 last week)

I'm curious about this poll. I wanna see what the other options were.

Well, I can see how ARMY are an organized unit, so I can imagine they've strategized how to get BE to chart and stay on the charts - just like they did with Dynamite. The thing with Dynamite's success is that majority of it is from ARMY and not really the GP. They have got the art of bulk buying down to a T, because the sales was the reason why Dynamite was able to chart so high for so long - no other song was selling as much as Dynamite, but every other song had more radio play and streaming numbers. It was literally only last week that Dynamite finally managed to surpass WAP and enter the top 5 most streamed songs in the US even though it's been 2 months after its release. ARMY have been working overtime to hold streaming parties and funding bulk buying every day just to keep up the momentum - that has got to be exhausting. Dynamite definitely got a boost from Fortnite and being promoted on TV - the other songs in the top 10 (especially WAP) aren't even being promoted at all. I think the GP is feeling the song cuz it's a cute bop and I'm sure they gained some new fans as a result, but I am not gonna assume that all of those fans turned hardcore enough overnight to stream and buy this song til kingdom come. The GP are the casual listener type, they'll stream from time to time and bop on the radio but they're not gonna be dropping big bucks and streaming 25/8 on any song.

Dream is definitely the GP friendly unit. I'm a fan too but even I get confused lol Dream is my bias unit as well. Ridin was arguably their best charting song to date. Because whilst Punch also hit #1 like Ridin, unlike Punch, Ridin charted reasonably higher and longer. However, it seems as if the distinct sounds that Dream, 127 and WayV should be known for have begun to overlap - so now they all sound pretty interchangeable. Even their concepts seem to be similar. So it's like, what's the point of these separate units if they aren't that different anymore?

didn't punch rank high because fans of the 97 scandal line voted for nct? lmaoooo like i swear i saw carats/armys/the other fandom say they'd vote for nct bc of jaehyun lmao

For Punch, I distinctly remember a lot of fans clowning him for being irrelevant in comparison to the others from 97 lines lol Which kinda sucks, because he's still my bias even if he isn't as popular as Jungkook or Cha Eunwoo. I do recall them winning on shows though, but Punch kinda fell off the charts pretty quickly. Punch also boosted Kick It to chart again. Bear in mind that Make a Wish isn't even charting on Melon right now, but yet they've won 3 times now. NCT still manages to win on music shows even if their charting is a mess.

omg i agree, i can't believe jaehyun isn't that popular in korea! i'm a newbie czennie (got fully into the fandom in june) and it's insane! jaehyun is beautiful, can sing, can dance and can rap. he wrote lyrics! he's hilarious too! and has other talents (radio hosting is not easy!) i feel bad that he's not the nation's it boy (who is instead? jihyo's sugar baby!?)

i can't believe nct is both a flop and an absolute success lmao that's why nctzens behave the way they do lmao

Jaehyun has the potential to be an IT boy, if only NCT were more popular *sigh* He's such a well rounded visual too and very accomplished. Along with all the activities you've mentioned, he's also finally getting his start in acting - I'm so proud of him! Jaehyun has a lot of potential and he's so likable, if SM pushes him properly, he could really see a boost in popularity. He has more appeal than Taeyong even though Taeyong is the main visual, because unlike him, Jaehyun isn't as awkward and adapts faster. I've been following NCT ever since their concept was announced but I didn't call myself a true NCTzen until around last year.

NCT is so contrary. Like how the heck do you rake in so much money in sales and yet still not manage to have one hit song? I don't understand! The group's popularity is on the fence just like it's fandom lmao NCTzens really don't know what to do with themselves at times 😅

I'm totally butting in uninvited, but I kind of think Jaehyun looks too mature, versus a lot of the other it idol boys. I think he may grow in popularity as he ages, especially if he acts. (by mature I mean his bone structure leans more classically handsome than pretty boy, plus I think his visuals are well suited for smoldering. Those seem more mature fans/acting fans that teen idol slayage.)

Feel free to butt in, I don't mind lol

Honestly, when I first saw Jaehyun, I thought he was much older - the same when I first saw Kai. So to realize that Jaehyun is one of the youngest in 127 still kind of blows my mind because he sounds and looks so mature. I can see him becoming an actor because he has that kind of look for kdramas where he's more handsome than pretty and looks more down to earth instead of unusual. He's kind of like Siwon in that regard, the classically handsome idol actor type.

This is late and ranty so apologies in advance. I don't really listen to Dream but 127 and WayV sound and look nothing alike. 127 seems more experimental in sound and look, and their title tracks are more hip hop influenced while their bsides lean more R&B. WayV has the whole time/space travel theme in their videos and lyrics (even the bsides), borrows a lot from old school SM with sung (rather than chanted) choruses and electric guitar dance breaks, and their bsides lean more towards pop so even the rappers have to sing in most tracks. WayV also tend to be more overtly sexy than the other units.
