SHINEE'S ONEW DISCHARGED EARLY FROM MILITARY

Onew enlisted on 10 December 2018 and was scheduled to be discharged on 20 July 2020 but has been released two weeks ahead of schedule, following the military's established protocols regarding COVID+holiday time. He will maintain his status until the 20th without returning to his unit. After training in the 12th Division, he was assigned to the 2nd Division's military band and performed in two stage musicals during the course of his enlistment.

i used to like shinee a lot, they were one of the very few boy groups i payed attention to, and he ruined the group for me. i wish they had kicked him out and key, minho and taemin had just continued on as 3. taemin can easily carry the group vocally.

he cannot sing that well, imo his improved vocals are so overhyped. theyre very thin and airy. he is still miles beneath onew and jonghyun. however, for kpop standards hed def be fine carrying the group

Yeah I like Taemin as a soloist tbh but its because he is a great performer, not because he is a good vocalist LMAO. He's not going to be one of the ones SM has singing ballads like the good vocalists from SuJu/EXO/Onew/NCT. What he does works for him. But he is not a strong vocalist. He improved like crazy but thats because he started at 0, lbr.

As a fan since debut, I definitely haven't forgotten. I'm still mad he didn't apologize to the victim in public, but as a lawyer I understand why he might not have been allowed to do that. Still shitty, though.

He did vanish from the public eye, and I believe that if Jonghyun hadn't passed he would've continued to do so. For all of 2018, he basically only did the Japanese concerts in honor of Jjong and one last Shawol Japan fanmeet. The solo album in December was also released without any promo.

I truly hope he got help for his drinking problem and that he regrets what he did. He seems to have gotten his shit together, but we will never know unless he fucks up again. In the same way, we will never officially know if the victim is okay with this outcome or if she got the closure or reparation that she wanted, and that's what bothers me the most.

My feelings towards him now are basically that old tumblr post on "how to deal with liking problematic things". I haven't forgotten, I'm nowhere near forgiving him, I understand people that hate his guts, but I want to honor my moral compass and believe people change. If he fucks up again, he's out, though.

i didn't expect anything else from shinee fans. i've always had bad experiences dealing with them and their blinders. it also pisses me off that, from my perspective, part of why he got so little backlash was because he did it so soon before jonghyun's passing, and i got the sense that everybody wanted to keep silent about it while we were all mourning him. but they also didn't need a tragic death in the group to ignore key's rampant misogyny so idk why i was hoping for anything better.
