She deleted her tweets, but this is what they said:
- "Sorry everyone, i made a mistake in my last tweet. The prewritten email in this link written to the elected officials to get justice for George Floyd.
Other than your name & where your from please edit “manslaughter” to “FIRST DEGREE MURDER"
- "From my last tweet, its a template and you can edit it. That is just how i chose to use it. It has been brought to my attention a first degree murder charge is ambitious, but that is what i believe. Thank you for your comments & i appreciate the discussion we are able to have."

Even though my usual mood when it comes to Pledis already is "disappointed, but not surprised", it still hurt to see them make Sungyeon delete her post... Like, can you be even more of a douchebag?

I hoped at least Josh would be able to post something, and I'd like to believe him and other members would do so if they still could use their personal instagrams, but at this point I'm just pissed that it's 2020 and they still submit to this kind of muzzling as artists and as people.

[identity profile] violoncelliste.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hoya????? I'm surprised and I hope it comes from an honest place.

BTS sure took their sweet time tbh normally I wouldn't even mind someone only posted today but they should have been the first in line

[identity profile] a-suitcase.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hani also posted a black square on blackouttuesday.

To be honest, given the rampant racism in kpop, I'm quite surprised that so many of the artists are openly supporting the BLM movement.

Someone's ass got caught on fire set by dispatch I see. Too little too late.

[identity profile] mntsuklaa.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
I hope not a lot of people jump in on Amber's bandwagon, since 1st degree murder requires planning and those charges would not stick, from what I've read online.

Asian Boss also posted a video about this, everyone's watching US cops (and government) right now and no one likes what they're doing/not doing...

I'm ngl, seeing the EXO members continue to post random shit like nothings happening, even when Baekhyun's tweets had hundreds of responses with BLM links has made to feel really disappointed and disgusted. And the anti-blackness in every fandom has come out this week but exols really had the nerve to claim moral superiority over ARMYs while harassing black fans.
And enough of this bs of "maybe they donated quietly". Now is really not the time to move quietly.Chanyeol is the most followed person in Korea , one post from him alone could do so much but they're all mute.
Sorry if this is derailing but I've just been so disheartened and twitter isn't a place to say all this without being jumped

Considering that other companies spoke up I don't believe SM is going to be as dumb as to remain silent because they want that US money but if they are going to be performative at least I hope they donate and /or post some links, those BTS/MX/Ateez post are so obviously PR generic statements that the fact anyone is praising them for that makes me laugh

And if SM groups do statements like this I hope nobody praises them but I know they will

And sorry if people have jumped you for expressing disappointment as a black fan, I believe EXOls are less culty than armys but they aren't much better overall, how some fans treat the black fans for being rightfully disappointed and sad made me mad

Amber we still remember when you said Black people should be more respectful to cops. Then you 'apologized' but made a tiktok making a joke about the whole thing.

Both Ashley and Zuny from Ladies' Code posted black squares for blackouttuesday
I really hope that this has been a moment of reflection and learning for a lot of these stars, particularly those who have said shitty things before, and I hope they know that it'll take more than reposting an image to regain many people's trust.

[identity profile] rosiemotleymind.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot believe it took this long for BTS UN Peace Ambassador‘s to say something. And fans under the tweet who were quick to take that BLM out of their user name(or if they ever had it) saying “I trusted BTS the entire time!” 🙃 I’m just so disappointed with them and definitely going to be in my feelings for a while but I’m happy they did the bare minimum and posted something with their platform. Same with Monsta X who ALSO took too long to post something.

I still would love an actual apology or livestream explaining how they dropped the fucking ball within a week but I won’t hold my breath

[identity profile] jyusou.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Every time I read the words “I trusted BTS the entire time!” “I never doubted our boys!!” my brain goes “Alexa, play STFU! by Rina Sawayama.”

it's good that many artistes are speaking out and that they are donating and I know that not everybody has to post on social media or show something they've done, but it still feels a bit performative. I was reading online about how people are worried about how this may just be a trend that many are jumping on, and I do feel the same way in that once the international media reduces its coverage, people will be acting like they didn't support this before

[identity profile] pwrpuffgrl.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ofc they're doing it because of the international pressure and once it's done, they'll move on. The whole movement is just showing how everyone just dosen't care and say/do something because the spotlight is on them.

I guess if they're more aware and learn something from all of this, it's a win. I doubt it tho.

Money and attention are going to the movement. The bare minimum, yes, but it's something big considering kpop is one of the most racist industries out there.

I'm just here laughing at accounts that posted essays about why kpop bands "couldn't" post anything because if they did, Trump would declare war on SK.

[identity profile] broadcities.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
i was really impressed by crush' statement.

as for bts, good that they are donating to support the cause, but their statement is really 1) the barest minimum and 2) too late and 3) i am hoping that they will address this more elaborately personally and also after the protests die down considering yoongi's scandal, their music being heavily influenced by hiphop and their position as un ambassadors...

[identity profile] jazzygyu.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Armys telling black fans they aren’t welcomed for ever doubting the boy’s, I’m really over this fandom. Armys are a mess and I still don’t know how to feel about BTS right now... but I hope to see them doing more than just this statement in the future.

Also I’ve never been a CL fan but mad respect for her to come out and say that. To all I-fans that cry ethnocentrism whenever black kpop fans talk about racism and how much the kpop industry borrows from black people. Y’all look real stupid now with all these korean artist admitting what we’ve always said.

[identity profile] greasetastic-x.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of it just feels hollow to me because right after this a lot of these people will just to right black to their appropriating ways and make fun of Black people while their fandoms go back to hating Black fans.

If you're going to take this stance the least you can do is hold yourself and your peers accountable for their actions. This is more than just posting a square and using a hashtag and donating. It requires a lot of introspective thinking as to how you could have caused detriment to Black people whether explicitly or implicitly and how you plan to change that going forward. If you're missing that link, this is just words.

[identity profile] dior-chic.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I completely agree. Like I saw an article about Sorn posted for BLM and she literally defended her friend who posed with something with Blackface. I hope she fucking learned but the cynic in me isn’t having it

[identity profile] binderwritings.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I follow the person who drew the Korean comic explaining George Floyd's death, the protests, and black lives matter and she's dealt with a lot with some people harassing her for her support but she's been ok with her comic being used to educate the Korean media and celebrities even if they don't openly credit her because she says it's for a good cause.

A few artists I follow posted beyond a black box and donated and have just been so supportive about this. Then there's Luna who posted a black box reposted Tiger JK's Korean comment to it and then proceeded to talk down to protesters in English claiming that they were making things worse and then turned off comments when people were trying to correct her. She's changed her tune apparently but she's been unfollowed since that's all she posted and then went immediately back to posting selfies.

Soo Joo this Korean-American model has been so great about this and has been posting nonstop. Even though she's not kpop as well Kiko Mizuhara has been awesome she's been posting nonstop as well and in both English and Japanese.

I wasn't here for bts not posting shit since their brand is "woke" but they did and I'm going to bite my tongue before someone accuses me of moving the goalposts but can army shut up. They can't open their damn mouth about BLM while they're out here being blatantly anti-black to people in their own fandom.

I tried to excuse exo since SM groups tend to be under the company's thumb moreso than others but other groups in the company had a member or two post a least something, even something in their stories would have been nice (not Lay we know he's a cop lover).

[identity profile] lightframes.livejournal.com 2020-06-04 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)

I like EXO and SHINee a lot and I'm disappointed that neither of them have spoken, 3/4 of SHINee are enlisted but Taemin isn't and he is inspired by black artists, a sincere statement with links to donate is the least he should do , shawols will donate so that will help a lot and it's not much effort

About EXO , all of them work with black producers , their music takes from black artists (as all kpop does) , people have spammed their IG and Twitter accounts and Baekhyun did an R&B album lmao, like come on, they should speak up, one of them saying something and posting the donation links will help a lot , SM artists in general can do better and they should do better and if LSM has money is because black artists so donations and statements should be the minimum .

Regarding MX/Ateez/BTS statements, they are performative af and nothing can convince me of the contrary, but it's good BTS is making a donation, they have a huge US fan base so that was something they should have done sooner , I just can't at people praising them for doing the bare minimum

And if SM groups release an statement I hope that nobody praises them but I know that will happen because that's how Stans work, seriously I've been really annoyed lately with all fandoms , including the ones of the groups I like, for how awful they have been to black fans and about the whole BLM situation in general

taemin have said racist shit in the past (dude consider kai "black") before and even as shawol i would side-eye him really hard, i like him but taemin needs to be educated .... key could post about it and seem genuine ,onew since his sexual harassment scandal chose to stay away from sns, minho cant even use sns to save his life lol

from shinee the only one who kinda cared about all those topics was jjong .. (at least he was trying to educate himself: apologized for some past racist controversy, asked fans to call him out when needed because he wanted to learn about those topics, actively addressed those topics on twitter, etc)

This exactly. r/kpop was full of people mad about the blackout, drowning out any conversations about cultural appropriation or about how kpop is built on the foundation of imitating black artists, but then in the same vein go off praising whatever group they stan so they can brag about their faves being woke. They don't even fucking care about any of this. Fuck all the way off.
