I'm 100% here for it, both for the mv version and the spotify(album) one. I can't stop listening to them. Please let the rest of the new songs/album be as amazing as Shadow and Black Swan, PLEASE.
That the MV would be just the dance company was what I expected. But the instrumentals, I did not expect. Wow. This is both confusing and transcendent. I applaud them for trying out such an ambitious marketing campaign for this release, with all these artist collaborations via BTS Connect and now this.
The "official" version, however, woah. It is on streaming platforms. This is from Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/4RR8ROIGix5CbCGlXHA53I
The vocals are over-processed. It didn't need that much treatment even if the song is leaning on the trap/hip-hop side, but for me the beat and instrumentals make up for it. Definitely listening on repeat right now.
when i saw the mv i was not super into the song (the do your thang doesn't sit right with me for some reason) but expected that the album version would be different. i remain really into the conceptual ambition that this promotion cycle is exhibiting. really cool and impressive!
now i'm listening to the album version and it's a bop! loving the instrumentals especially. i really have (cautious) high hopes for the album!!
kind of missed the connect bts stuff, what's this all about?
BTS is funding artists around the world to have some sort of art exhibition during the release of 7, to "connect" music with art no matter the language, or something like that, it's quite elaborate.
You can find more info here https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/14/arts/design/bts-antony-gormley.html
oooh that's what it is, thanks! i also saw some movie posters (?) of some of the members but i've been too swamped with work that i haven't found the energy to figure everything out
So moving. It is both a lot and enough at the same time. Like hauntingly beautiful - you want more of it but you’re afraid to drown in it. And not being able to clearly differentiate each voice for a large portion of the song with all the layering and processing adds to that murkiness and fear of being lost. I love both the YouTube and Spotify versions. BTS outdid themselves. How can I not have it on repeat?
Yes to dancing in area of urban decay, that's always an aesthetic I can appreciate but that song is a no Their voices do not match with the instrumental, it ends up sounding like a poorly produced remix (there's a real issue with the sound mixing)
The Spotify version is so good. I'm going to have to watch the mv later, it's the type of mv that needs my focus. This art film/ connect BTS thing might be pretentious but this might be my favorite comeback cycle since wings. It feels fun again.
The vocals are WAY too processed. I had a hard time distinguishing each of their voices. The beat is amazing in both versions but I especially love the MV ver. The violin really set the mode. I’m excited to see how this comeback will roll out.
The auto tune...I know fans are saying it’s a deliberate choice but it’s a terrible deliberate choice? Like that is a thing.
Why does Suga rap with that affectation only in their singles? Like he sounds amazing in the Interlude but here he sounds like he’s pouting throughout. Why is that a choice?
The MV is art though. I can totally see Jimin pull this kinda choreo off as the principle with the rest of BTS being his backups.
The message behind the piece is amazing but the auto tune ruins it.
OH wow I love the Spotify versionnnnn it sounds nice!
Part of me feels like the song has quite a lot of SM-vibe, and I think certain part kinda reminds me of EXO's Overdose, or Ko ko bop. I dont really remember.
Anyways it seems like they're currently into this processed voice, I can probably handle it, the music is still great. It's just I'm not sure who's singing at the first glance lol Also the intro piano combined with the harp thing, ahh i love it!!
It literally sounds like a mashup of Overdose KKB and Monster but the orchestral version and with a bit of Dionysus thrown in and then everything is put through a vocoder.
yeah I'm seeing all stan factions complain their bias didn't get lines lol, like surely someone must have gotten lines. I have no clue who's singing what here, even the rappers (did RM really only get those three lines at the start? hard to imagine).
This is my 2nd comeback but I am thoroughly surprised at the art theme in this one and how elaborate it is. I guess they're going out with a bang because enlistment is coming.
I'm glad they're back to R&B a little with this track, hopefully there will be less autotune but I'm excited.
I love the overall vibe. The concept is stunning but I’m biased because Wings era was amazing concept-wise and this is that 2.0 I’m excited to see the dance to this and I hope the album is strong. From their LYS series I feel like Tear was the most cohesive and my favorite so I’m hip wing this dark concept is that plus Wings era visuals!
The song is a bop and I love the lyrics but I’m echoing the comments of all this damn auto tune is not necessary.
I’ve been listening all morning. All the choices for this rollout have been so deliberate and interesting. Black Swan was nothing I expected. The song is pretty haunting. The delicately plucked guitar chords and the descending melody Structure of the song? whew! And well the base is mad. In the car singing “do your thang... what’s my thang” like pretty simple lines but the context of the song are Pretty cool and existential.
yeah i feel like they're heavily inspired by kanye this comeback, and suga has talked about how much he loves him before but i know there are gonna be k-pop fans that will say 'your faves could never" but it doesn't feel fresh to me...plus runaway sonically is better...
I can't even begin to describe how much I love all of this from start to finish, top to bottom. I'm so proud of the boys and their ever-evolving forms as artists. I love both versions, that dance is HAUNTING, and I'm fine with the autotune because it merges perfectly with the melody? It's like their voices are speaking from the darkness, the shadow. I dig it. I've never been more proud to be a fan of an artist(s) as I am right now with BTS.
the dancing is great but it feels like the vocals are fighting with the instrumental with that terrible autotune. i couldn't listen to suga's intro because of it too
Objectively, the MV is interesting and different and artistic, personally, it's not my style so I found it kinda boring. Same with the song? I didn't like the combination of a more classical instrumental and autotune. I think it's also bc I don't like it so rap-heavy, so it's just my own preference.
they could definitely do less autotune... the instrumental is gorgeous by itself but doesn't match the vocal line? also what are these lyrics. not 100% into this tbh
their songs have become so overly autotuned since fake love. it's fine with one or two songs but they use it on almost every song. it rly can't hide bad vocals if that's what their producers are trying to do.
okay, that autotune is a hot mess because it made it so difficult to differentiate who was singing, but i think i managed to pick out rap line's voices easily because they have a distinct way of rapping. vocal line was a little more tricky, especially since their voices also sounded layered. i like the beat, this would be a pretty sick instrumental. i'm kinda already low key hft because even with the overly processed autotuned vocals, it sounds like what fake love should have been. i hope i won't be disappointed with the actual comeback. lemme keep my fingers crossed.
i loved the instrumental right away, the vocals i found overprocessed at first but … song grows on you super quick.
i consider this a rap-line heavy song because rap-line's voices are the ones i can distinguish lol. vocal line is super mushed together. i guess i was slightly mad at first because i couldn't hear my fave bias. kind of like an eargasm denial thing. once i realized that, i got over it for the bigger picture. and because in the end i genuinely like all 7 of them and rapline always slaps.
legit could have picked Black Swan MV and Connect BTS for projects at uni (art history major). this is next level shit. 'm charmed and looking forward to the album.
I'm late to comment because life is a b*tch but I've been listening to this song a lot since its release and I still don't know how I feel about it. On one hand, I love the melody and the instrumentals, and I like the message conveyed in the lyrics, but on the other hand, all that vocoder throws me off . Yoongi sounds even worse than he did in BWL and you can't tell vocal line apart AT ALL. I'm really wondering how this song will sound live.
I really like the video though. It's a step in an interesting direction. I'm not here for all the stupid twitter stans shitting on the dancers because they find BTS to be such superior dancers...
Ex-9M Sera made a reaction video and now I'm even sadder :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLK5vtSPoEc (If anyone wants to make a separate post please do so!)
