First Friday of the year! Hope everyone had a safe new years. Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s see who was on top for the 1st week of January, 2016. I vaguely remember these songs, probably because it was the first days of the new year and I was still vaguely hungover. Probably. Most likely. Heck, I’m drinking again right now.


#3 Yoon Mirae “This Love”
Beautiful! She looks gorgeous (ooh that red lip!), and sounds amazing. And the song is so nice too, and would eventually reach #1. This big, sweeping ballad was a non-album single and her first solo release in 4 years, aside from a few OST appearances.

#2 PSY featuring CL “Daddy”
I’ve never seen this video. I’m a little disturbed lol. The MV also features some cameos from Yu Hee-yeol, Ha Ji Won, and CL. The song wasn’t too popular globally, but it did go to #1 in Korea and win a triple crown on Inkigayo.

#1 EXO “Sing For You”
If you’re still in a cozy winter ballad kind of mood, then I’ve got a song for you! I’m actually not, it was a shorts and flip flops kind of day lol. But it’s a nice song! This was one of the singles off of the group’s second winter EP of the same name. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the MV before. It’s a Star Whale!

Honorable Mentions

#7 Zico featuring Zion.T “Eureka”
Shout out to my state motto. Ooh, jazzy horns! This was one of the singles off of his first solo EP, “Gallery”. This song would go to the top of the charts, and four out of the six songs on the EP would break into the top ten. I am in love with that black dress the first girl is wearing.

#9 Baek Yerin “Across The Universe”
This was the single off of her solo debut EP, “Frank”. The song’s lyrics were reportedly inspired by the film The Martian. I’ve tried to watch that movie twice, and fell asleep both times. But she clearly enjoyed it more than me lol. I really like this song. Last week she announced that she would be holding her first solo concert.
