IZ*ONE’s An Yu Jin will no longer be a student at School of Performing Arts Seoul.

On October 25, a source from Off The Record Entertainment said, “An Yu Jin, her parents, and the agency carefully discussed An Yu Jin’s current situation and her future over a long period of time. We decided to go in the direction of self-study, home schooling, and later taking the qualification exam for her level of education to be recognized.”

The source continued, “We respect the wishes of An Yu Jin and her parents and will do our best to wholeheartedly support her so she can fulfill her wishes.”

I'm not a fan of dropping out of school due to an idol career.. I know the others are only ghost students as well and probably only graduate because they're celebs but oh well..

+1

Life long careers are hardly ever in the cards, making sure you have an aducation to fall back on is pivotal.

100000000% agreed. I was really disappointed when I found out my bias Olivia in Loona dropped out (as well as Gowon). As the person above said idol careers ares so fickle, especially with the market being so oversaturated nowadays. Idols always need to have a backup plan and think past their twenties and thirties.

same, i got massive YIKES when i read it, imagine if she gets injured in 1 or 2 years or can't handle it mentally.. being an idol is not a life-long job, i wish she would at least finish proper high school

No way she’ll have time for self study. Better to stay in school and they’ll graduate you simply because that’s what they do for idols. Who am I to approve of anyone’s educational choices but this just seems like a bad idea

i mean, i'm not sure why this is news, isn't this basically the case for all underage idols? even those who remain technically enrolled have to miss most/all of their classes due to their activities.

i don't expect any teenager to be able to make rational choices about their life in the long term. to them, "right now" is all there is. i would hope that adults in their life would steer them down the right path, but stage parents rarely do. well, here's hoping her self-study goes well and she doesn't miss out on too much.

Isnt high school in SK not mandatory?
Still, being seen as a gradute is better than earning a ged

What other idols have dropped out? I know Minzy did, Jungkook, Junhoe. Didnt the Dream members have to drop out too bc of SOPA new attendance policy?

Chungha and Yeonjung are the only ones who found success after IOI ended and the rest of them unfortunately serve as a cautionary tale tbh. :/
