Some say it's a great opportunity to give exposure to kpop by having its own category, most say it separates kpop groups (mainly BTS) so they don't compete with western bands and actually win. Additional to Best Kpop, BTS' Boy With Luv is nominated for Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction and Best Choreography.MTV #VMA’s Best K-Pop Nominations:

i get the feeling that there will only be room for one major kpop group of each gender in the us scene, because unfortunately a lot of the public won't bother learning the difference btwn groups of asians

K-pop companies I think though are satisfied with just banking on the k-pop fandom that already exists here since the korean market is so oversaturated

i know sm keeps trying to make nct happen and like i think theyre incredibly talented and they have great personalities so i won’t say anything about the nom.
i don’t know anything about monsta x except they got the big tiddies man so congrats to them!
tbh the only ones i think actually make sense are bts (obviously) and bp because their following in the US is massive. though i agree 100% with the rest of the comments: where the hell is TWICE? FANCY is the song of the year!
