BTS has been invited to attend the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly!

The 73rd UN General Assembly began on September 18, and will continue through next month.

According to UN sources, BTS will be attending the launch of UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund)’s “Generation Unlimited” partnership that will take place on September 24 at 12 p.m. local time at the UN Headquarters in New York, a day before the general debate will begin.

“Generation Unlimited” is a new global partnership that is “dedicated to increasing opportunities and investments for children and young people aged 10 to 24.”

BTS is said to have been noted by the United Nations for their UNICEF campaign called “Love Myself,” which launched in October 2017 and has raised over 1 million dollars as of June 2018. A UN diplomat expressed how exceptional it is for a K-pop artist to be invited to attend one of UN General Assembly’s regular sessions.

Notably, BTS will be speaking in front of the assembly for three minutes. Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore, South Korean First Lady Kim Jung Sook, and several others are expected to attend.

Meanwhile, BTS is currently carrying out the North American leg of their “Love Yourself” world tour, with concerts coming up in Hamilton, Canada; Newark, New Jersey; Chicago, Illinois; and Citi Field Stadium in New York.

I feel like after they go through with this there’s no going back for them image-wise. If they fuck up after this, they’re gonna lose a lot. I feel like I’m watching Icarus getting too close to the sun and the wax is gonna start melting any minute now.

On a less anxious note, welcome back OP!

wow
makes sense considering their Unicef collaboration. They must have raised quite some money for that by now with their insane album sales.

Tbh. I wanna support this thing they’re doing, which is a pretty big deal, but in light of that collaboration the feeling of “ugh 🙄🙄🙄” just overwhelms anything else I may feel.

to me, the idea of bts being woke was an accident and then their ignorant asses decided to ride the "wokeness" image and monetize it. but clearly they care the bare minimum and theyre using human rights as a concept and as a marketing tool. if they truly gave a shit about what they preach, they wouldnt have worked with pedophile's friends, they wouldve stopped working with supreme boi.

Honestly, to even brand yourself as “woke” and “socially-conscious” on a global scale like they have, it requires some Serious Oversight. It takes work to be inoffensive to everybody. And an overall consciousness by all parties involved to do the right thing. Something Bighit and Bangtan still clearly has gaps in, seeing how they’re incapable of doing a google-search on what Nicki Minaj has been up to lately, or the fact that they keep Supreme Boi around while he is still linked to that shithole Iron, whose existence is an insult to 90% of their fanbase i.e. women.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently because it makes no sense that they're considered even the bare minimum of woke. There's some serious lost in translation bullshit going on with branding them as such because they were never ever classified as a woke group to begin with: they were supposed to be a group that addressed social issues in their songs (which they USED to do) and those were mainly about very specific things like overwork, hell joseon, the crooked school sytem etc. that mostly all related to Korea, yet to make it easy for western consumption it has been rebranded as "woke". The things they addressed were mostly related to class and suited them as an "underdog" group, and now that they're rich they no longer even need to address those things anymore.

Not once have they ever been a group that has sincerely and unpromptedly shown particular sensitivity towards issues like race, sexual orientation (if I really have to go there yeah RM tweeted being fine with gay people 4 years ago), feminism, literally ANYTHING that could construe them as woke. Their dumbass American PR and company couldn't tell the difference between being woke and being critical of society - like how many rapey-ass rappers out there aren't perfectly capable mentioning current issues in their music? They're two entirely different things - and people covering them don't care enough to do their research and actually challenge this statement because they just care about clicks anyway, and now we're left with the most depressing hypocritical version of BTS we could possibly get.

Btw I never expected or wanted them to be a "woke" group any more than I do other groups before they started to market this as a concept and while I feel for them that they've been pushed into this position that most of them aren't suited for and never asked to be in they really can't keep this up. The audacity of fronting this campaign when openly pursuing working relationships with the very people it's supposed to be up against is insane.

@OP my school is really extra so first years have a mandatory field trip to the UN General Assembly where we listen to the Dutch ambassador give a talk on how the Netherlands is full of clean energy and then listen to the school's dean talk about sustainability in fashion (lol). the building is BEAUTIFUL. ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT/EVENING. THE COURTYARD WITH ALL THE LIGHTS AND CLEAR ULTRAMARINE SKY. WOW.
we got to sit in the actual pit with the mic headset things and everything, when we asked questions the asker was shown on the huge screen, we had to go through the TSA-esque security entrance. awesome architecture. although interestingly, their bathrooms were pretty eh. 1 ply toilet paper. LOL

Off topic but lmaooo 1 ply. I still don't get how western civilization feels its clean enough to wipe their butt with dry paper, let alone just 1 ply. I mean i get that people actually pull more than one piece of it but if it's just 1 ply then wouldn't people just pull even more then? 🤔

i dont like they're going for this too-clean-image route, makes it even harder for them to collaborate with any celebrities they like without people criticizing their choice lol
BTS that I like is the one who makes creative music however it is and not the good-student image that people keep waiting for them to trip and fall from the throne. I really can understand when Suga said that he's afraid to fall rather than landing. I hope they will still get the military enlistment, it's good to take a break once in a while to refresh minds. Sometimes people can't really distinguish the right and the wrong when being constantly exposed to the media like this :( They need to hang out more with the commoners tbh.
