[TW] Principal Found Dead After Teacher Revealed To Be Raping Disabled Students

A principal of a special school for disabled students in Gangwon Province was found dead Thursday morning, days after the revelation that one of the teachers had sexually harassed and raped students with mental disabilities over several years.

According to police, an apartment security guard found the 68-year-old principal lying dead in a flower bed in front of the apartment building, and reported it to police at 4:55 a.m.

The principal is presumed to have died by suicide, police said. Previously on Monday, she had knelt and issued an apology over the sexual assault case at the briefing room of Taebaek City Hall.

On Wednesday, prosecutors sought an arrest warrant for the alleged abuser, 44, in Taebaek. The suspect is accused of sexually harassing and raping three students in classrooms and the gym dating to 2014. He is reported to have admitted to the charges.

Gangwon Provincial Education Office launched an investigation into the special school on Wednesday.

Police have requested the Gangwon Provincial Office of Education penalize another teacher at the school for not reporting the sexual misconduct after one of the victims spoke up about it last year.

I have a distant family friend with two children, both who have severe autism. She quit her job to home school them after a teacher was busted molesting students at the special ed school they were going to. Fuck that man for preying on such a vulnerable group of kids, I hope he gets his ass killed in prison.

Hard to find sympathy for the principal either. Rarely in cases like these is the school authority not aware there is something sketchy going on,

oh dear heavens :( i'm so sorry that those students were molested by that monster of a teacher. by any chance, do you know if he got fired? it disgusts me to see teachers conducting this type of behavior to students, especially to those vulnerable. i'm relieved to see one of the students spoke up about it.

yeah, i can't sympathize with the principal nor her death. it's likely that she knew about it, and kept her month shut until it blew up in her face.

He was arrested and I believe he's in prison now The saddest part was the abuse was only discovered after a mother found strange injuries on her daughter's privates. God knows how many he abused in the years he worked there.

the amount of abuse that goes on in special needs places (both for children and the elderly) is astoundingly abysmal. I know gross fucks purposely prey on them, and lots of places do their due diligence in hiring but clearly not enough. The amount of cover ups that go on too is disgusting.

That is so shocking, I thought it was a man because there have been a few cases of men committing suicide after cases like this coming to light recently but I should've read more closely, thanks for correcting me. That makes me really worried about the extent of the abuse in this case though.

again?! why does this keep happening? the crucible was SO painful to watch. i don't understand why these people keep getting jobs working with disabled children--surely there must be some kind of in-depth screening for teachers working in schools which need a higher level of care?

i think i miswrote--i meant there SHOULD be some kind of intensive screening process, there must be a POSSIBLE screening process. i know they don't screen, because they don't seem to have understood the kind of awful people who choose these jobs. because they don't think these children can communicate what happens to their parents, and they frighten the ones who can into thinking nobody will believe them. :( it's disgusting. this is the kind of job that DESERVES people who won't abuse the chances they've been given, but this is the kind of job abusers and paedophiles manage to get. and they shouldn't be able to. but what do we know, we're millennials, we're ruining everything for sick bastards everywhere. >.<

Having had someone recently die from suicide, I cannot so blithely just say YASSSSSSSSS when I read things like this. Assuming that she knew, being glad she is dead? I think that is wrong. Perhaps she just felt so terrible that she missed the signs and her heart was hurting so bad and her sense of responsibility toward her students was so great, that she could not bear it. OR perhaps she did know and had ignored it. Perhaps as a woman in her position, no one believed her anyway. Because that could have happened.

Be angry that the abuse happened. Be very angry at the perpetrator.

I feel for the people the woman who killed herself left behind.

while i understand where you're coming from, i read an article on naver that pretty much said that the principal knew the abuse was happening, kept her mouth shut for the sake of her job, and the truth came crashing down on her - thus, ending her life.

i'm not trying to throw a party because she's dead, but she's equally as bad as the perpetrator for knowing the abuse and staying silent.
