Jang Hyun-seung to enlist this month

Jang Hyun-seung, a former member of K-pop boy band Beast, will enlist in the military later this month, his management agency said Thursday.

The 29-year-old original Beast member, who left the group in 2016, will enter military boot camp on July 24 to begin his mandatory 21-month military service, according to Cube Entertainment.

"The exact place of enlistment will not be disclosed as Jang Hyun-seung wants it to be a quiet event," the agency said. Jang will spend five weeks in the boot camp before being assigned to an Army unit.

Jang debuted in 2009 in the original line-up of Beast before leaving the group in April 4 to launch a solo album and perform in the project duo Trouble Maker with Hyuna. In July last year, he released solo single "Home" after renewing his contract with Cube.

Not surprising, he's been acting a bit odd and distant (yes, even for Hyunseung) in Instagram lives and in social media postings. I kind of expected this to happen soon, given how successful Highlight is even after leaving, and how he's lost a lot of popularity and momentum in the public eye.

Come to think of it, he hasn't really been involved with anything Cube related in a while (company concerts, supporting other artists' comebacks), and I haven't heard any of the other artists mention him, not even Hyuna.
Makes you wonder.

I wonder about him a lot. He had a detached online presence for years, especially after his dad died. Beast left without him and then he stayed in Cube, which clearly doesn't really care for him it seems. I really wonder how that ended up happening. I know he was recently in a relationship but broke up to 'focus on music'. Now here he is enlisting.
