edit: but honestly, i've been a kpop fan for 10 years now and i still remember when we all went crazy because some tv channel in the middle of nowhere randomly played a kpop song. or because kpop was mentioned in a foreign magazine. and now we have a k-pop group sitting at number 1 on the billboard charts with an album full of korean songs.

That they aren't from a big 3 company definitely makes it all the more monumental since they just do not have the long money that SM, YG or JYP has.

Honestly if YG gave more of a damn about his acts this easily could've been 2NE1 or Big Bang IMO but he doesn't.

Having followed Kpop for roughly 10 years now I remember being a wonderful and unsure if anyone could even crack the charts so I'm GENUINELY shocked at this news. They've been so good at crediting WG & Psy and other kpop acts that made a splash in North America so I hope this is a sign that asian people in general - especially asian american artists - can follow in their lead and top charts themselves.

absolutely amazing. congrats to them! I love Fake Love but honestly can't get much into this album.

As others have said, as someone who has been into K-pop for over ten years, this is like a fantasy come true, even if I don't know much about BTS tbh. (I don't usually listen to male artists, but they really are one of the best ones out there.)

and this is unrelated to BTS themselves, but makes me think of the stark differences between J0pop and K-pop marketing. I was into J-pop long before K-pop and always crossed my fingers that the royalty of J-pop would make even the slightest bit of a splash in the West. (Occasionally doing a live in a French anime con doesn't count, thanks.) Then it seemed the industry buckled down on being closed-off to the world while K-pop execs opened it up. I've been saying it for years, but J-pop really needs to learn some shit from K-pop. They fucking WON'T because they're a bunch of geezers who think only yen matters, but UUUUGGHHHH. I'm so pressed that artists like Ayu fucking live in America but have never done a proper concert here. Now I'm thinking of that embarrassing shit like Cool Japan.

Honestly one things that drew me more to k-pop is that it's so much easier to keep up to date about. Like the only Jpop acts I really follow(ed) are Perfume, Meg & Saori@Destiny/Saoriiiii and even with Perfume's explosive popularity it's hard to keep up with them in the way I can literally any kpop group.
