anyone else think mic drop is kind of a weird choice for the ellen show? i really wouldn't associate her normal audience with enjoying a song like that. i know most of us think dna is a snooze, but that's probably the song i'd perform on ellen and then mic drop on any of the late night shows (or maybe even the amas). there are definitely some interesting choices made this go round.

Is it just me or does it feel like Steve Aoki is banking on BTS to try and revamp his career/recognition? And I say this with genuine curiousity, bc he’s never really had a smash hit, and Desiigner once mentioned how Steve “needed this to happen” and I felt like that phrase had multiple layers to it. (I hope I don’t come across as someone who is getting cocky and overestimating Bangtan’s success, bc I’m trying very hard not to do that lol.)

Steve has a rich dad and his sister is Devon Aoki so he at least does not need this for the money. If he's trying to ride their coattails for fame...normally it'd be icky but since he's also Asian I'd rather someone like him get the co-credit than one of the many fratboy douchebros they like to associate with so much. Even moreso if he can manage to improve on the track.

I find his remixes boring. He has remixed quite a lot of kpop songs and nobody really cared. He did a remix of SNSD's Mr. Taxi a few years ago that got included on IIRC their The Boys album and it was meh.

I'm painfully out of touch when it comes to popular mainstream artists but Gallant seemed nice? Also Grimes, maybe someone like Dua Lipa, Lorde...I'm loving Rina Sawayama but kind of think she's too cool for them lol. Honestly at this point I'd take either/or (shit track with decent person or great track with human garbage).

If it were up to me they'd stop collab-ing entirely tbh because nothing interesting has come of it so far and they should be focusing on getting their own groove back with their beige musical output as of late.

aoki is literally rich though lol and all his songs do p well as far as i'm concerned (?). he's always on tour, and his family is also rich. also he had an ep in bill nye and had his own doc in netflix and has his own record company, if anything i trust him 100% because imo you can tell he loves doing these projects and he always does them out of passion and interest. idk he seems super genuine to me

Yeah people are already upset with Ellen and the episode hasn't even come out. Like I'm not a huge fan of hers but fans wanted it. But someone from the recording said she didn't ask about UNICEF and she also asked them if they ever dated a fan which made fans mad as well. In America celebrities dating isn't a bad thing, like stop getting mad because someone may not know that dating is an issue in the Kpop world. Fans are way too protective they can't interact with anyone without their fans being up and arms. I've seen so many rants about how they just want them to go back to Korea cuz Americans treated them badly when besides the paparazzi incident I don't think they've been treated badly... they're grown men they can handle themselves.

They are so deluded. it's just a question and they could just answer "no". If it stresses them out that much then sorry, they shouldn't be attempting to do any more business here because you can't have your cake and eat it too.

One of my biggest problems with this US media tour is how little it adds to BTS because their US market research seems to be absolutely terrible, they have no idea how things work here and just seem to be happy to latch on to whatever has a lot of followers/hype (all the amazing opportunities they got seem to be coming from the event/artist/publications side, it's not stuff they actively tried to book or pursue) and the fact that they seem SO clueless as to how to work press opportunities here. You can't expect scripted interviews. People aren't scared to offend you the way they are in Korea where they'll get blacklisted. You can't expect everyone to ask the same bland 15 questions over and over again with the same rehearsed answers if you're doing interviews at a rate of Lucille Ball cramming chocolates in her face off a conveyor belt. You can't have a "woke" image if you're promoting a shallow love song and giving meaningless soundbites in response to any attempt at featuring your group.

The K-pop media model just does not work here and idk what they're going to do when they're coming back for another round if they don't step it up. Media are going to get bored of getting the same "our fans are our gfs" answers and they're going to open themselves up to some shitty evil people who aren't afraid to look for proper tea or make fun of them for clicks that way.

I don't follow the DJ scene that closely but I never thought Aoki was all that famous or a big deal anymore, seems like his moment has long past like back in the early 2000s. Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Avicii, Diplo (barf), Daft Punk, Zedd, Calvin Harris, Clams Casino, R3hab are the DJs I always hear about now.
