South-Korea ranks high in educational equity

South Korea emerges as the nation with the most equitable education system, according to a new report by the World Economic Forum titled Inclusive Growth and Development Report 2015. It assesses three kinds of equity in education – access, quality and outcomes – and covers everything from pre-school to vocational training.

The results have been classified by the World Bank income group, which may come as no surprise given the strong correlation between economic development and education. Northern Europe and Asia dominate the advanced economies, with Japan joining South Korea and Singapore in the top three. At number 24, the United States appears some way down the advanced-economy scale, trailing Australia, France and Iceland.

BIGBANG Breaks Sales Record With New Japanese Album

BIGBANG has topped the weekly album chart of Japan’s leading music chart Oricon with its latest Japanese release “MADE SERIES.”

According to a report by Oricon on February 9, the album has sold over 128,000 copies since its release on February 3. This is enough to earn the No.1 spot on the weekly album chart, as well as break BIGBANG’s previous sales record.

Oh My Girl Preparing for March Comeback

Oh My Girl is coming back!

According to industry insiders, the rookie girl group is currently working on their third mini album with the goal of releasing it next month. Their comeback preparations are expected to hit full speed in just a couple of days once the Lunar New Year holiday is over.

A representative of their agency WM Entertainment confirmed that a new album is in the works, and said, “We are working hard to present a high quality album.”

Oh My Girl made their debut last April with “Cupid,” and soon followed up with promotions for “Closer.” More recently, they made the headlines for being detained at a Los Angeles airport for over 10 hours due to customs and immigration issues.

Singing, acting, and even bravely surviving the jungle, girl group BESTie’s Haeryeong still had a lot to show us. Very much so. She put on a vivid smile with her clear skin and revealed many kinds of faces to bask in her color and add her own touch. At the center of this season’s beauty trend is the bewitching beauty subject Haeryeong who unveiled herself with 6 different keywords.

You’re really pretty in real life.

I went and exercised early this morning for the photoshoot today. In my mind I wanted to look a bit prettier. (Laughs)

If you’re a woman in her 20s, you can only be interested in makeup. How do you usually get your beauty information or sense?

I have the most interest in beauty among the members of BESTie. I look at magazines a lot and purchase cosmetics that I’m curious about at least once, I’ve bought them all. It’s hard to choose a base product for my skin since it’s on the sensitive side, so that’s something I’m studying even harder.

What kind of efforts do you go to in order to manage your skin and body?

I exercise for 2 hours, three times a week. I’ve begun learning to swim recently but it’s the most difficult of all the aerobic exercises I’ve tried. When I’m done swimming I receive a PT. When I do a lot I do about 3~4 hours.

If I exercise like that I can’t lose weight even if I want to.

It seems that if you do aerobic exercises on an empty stomach the weight will certainly fall off. But it’s the difficulty that’s the problem!

Among the 6 keywords you shot today, what was your most favorite makeup look?

Contouring makeup. I really wanted to try makeup that contained bold shading or highlights just once. Since it’s a very technical job, I felt safe by leaving it in the hands of artists.

What are 3 products that you just can’t leave out of your beauty pouch?

Lancome liquid foundation. There are many occasions where I was recording all day, but over time my makeup didn’t get all oily or come off. Also, Shu Uemura’s eyebrow pencil and coral color lipstick. Whenever I need simple makeup, I’ll never panic as long as I have these.

Is there a female role model or muse that you want to be like?

Since I was an elementary student I liked Han Yeseul-ssi. She’s pretty like a doll and she has distinct features to her face, even as a woman myself, she’s very attractive.

The Revival of Heroes to Calm the Underworld’s Rebellion

BESTie’s ‘Haeryeong’ has been chosen as the promotional model to be with the launching of 'Underworld Heroes for Kakao’.

Longtu Korea with domestic developer Dochi has announced on the 26th they will begin their official service of the new mobile action RPG 'Underworld Heroes for Kakao’ through their own service and development.

Longtu Korea said they plan to use girl group 'BESTie’ member 'Haeryeong’, who is becoming active in recent dramas and variety programs, as a promotional model for TV ads and other commercials for 'Underworld Heroes for Kakao’ and that she will appeal the game with positivity to young gamers in the 10~30 age range. Corresponding TV ads are planned to be aired shortly after the official service of 'Underworld Heroes’.

'Underworld Heroes for Kakao’ is a mobile fantasy-action RPG that combines the stories of the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the Underworld into a game featuring fighting and an extensive story that produces 200 stages and 400 heroes. Pre-registration before the game’s official release recorded over 30 million people.

In commemoration of the game’s official launch, Longtu Korea is holding a variety of events for gamers.

First, 2 people from users who have reached level 15 of the 'user level’ through play after downloading the game by February 15th will be drawn for a raffle to be paid a prize of 1 million won in cash. Also, 200 people will be selected through a lottery to be presented with CU mobile vouchers (worth 5,000 won each).

In addition to this, a user who sees TV ads starring popular girl group 'BESTie’ member 'Haeryeong’ and posts on SNS will be presented with an autograph by 'Haeryeong’ including a photo and a Kakao Friends doll (worth 25,000 won) through a lottery.

Haeryeong cast in TV novel My Minds Flower Rain


BESTie Haeryeong (Na Haeryeong, 22) has been confirmed as the heroine of a TV novel.

An official of the drama revealed on the 1st to Daily Sports that “Haeryeong has been chosen as the heroine for the KBS 2TV TV novel ‘My Mind’s Flower Rain’”.

Haeryeong will take on the the role of a “flower rain” woman in a story where after parting with her mother, Im Chaewon, due to war, happens to meet her again. A script reading was held this past week ahead of the title shoot. Through this unique historical TV novel, Haeryeong will display complex emotions while showing her even more matured acting skills.

She debuted in a girl group, but Haeryeong’s acting has received some recognition. She left a strong impression as Lee Jinwook’s childhood first love in tvN’s “Nine” and appeared in the drama special “You’re Pretty, Oh Manbok”, “High School: Love On!”, and “My Lovely Girl”, continuing with her acting activities. She then played a lead role in the web drama “9 Seconds - Eternal Love”.

“My Mind’s Flower Rain” will be airing early next month after “The Stars Are Shining” that is currently airing.

f(x)‘s Luna revealed the key to her diet on the recent broadcast of SBS PowerFM‘s “2 O’clock Escape Cultwo Show.”

On February 9, Luna answered a question regarding her diet, saying, “I did lose a lot of fat. But my weight didn’t change much. I completely changed my diet. I don’t eat midnight snacks and I can’t drink alcohol well, so I rarely eat at night.”

On the Channel A show “Heard It Through the Grapevine,” restaurant owner and openly gay TV personality Hong Suk Chun spoke out about rumors of actor Yoo Ah In being gay.

It’s a rumor familiar in the industry – that Yoo Ah In is gay. The rumors first started when Yoo Ah In was spotted at a popular gay bar and a picture of him there started circulating online. Even the actor himself knows of these gay rumors and has said before that the rumors are untrue and that the story has been twisted. He is reported to have said, “But that one photo has become like some kind of evidence that I am.”

Nicole Will Be Making Comebacks in Japan and Korea During the Next Two Months

Former KARA member Nicole is simultaneously preparing for comebacks in Japan and Korea.

According to a report from February 8, Nicole will release her second single, “DON’T STOP,” in Japan on February 17, and follow up with promotions. “DON’T STOP” is a bright dance song with lyrics that send a message to someone who can’t speak their mind. She will be making a comeback after eight months, as her first Japanese debut solo album was released last June.



Afterwards, in March, Nicole will be making a comeback in Korea with a mini album. Following her first solo mini album, “First Romance,” which was released November 2014, she will be meeting her fans again after a year and four months.


While she did not have any domestic (Korean) promotions last year, Nicole is already garnering attention for planning on promotions in both Japan and Korea early on in the new year.

Nicole debuted in 2007 as one of the original members of KARA, and left the group January 2014. Following, she took dance lessons in New York in order to prepare for her solo debut, and made a comeback as a solo artist under B2M Entertainment.

Last June, Nicole also made it into number 10 on the Oricon charts with her Japanese solo album, as well as the number one spot on the Tower Records’s K-pop charts, showing the potential she has as a solo artist.
