XXL Magazine: “Korean Rapper G-Dragon Talks K-Pop Hype, New EP and Past Scandals”!

The hairstyles are colorful, dance routines are perfectly choreographed, and the music’s stupidly infectious. If you don’t know, get to know K-pop: South Korea’s globetrotting bubble-gum music spree. The players are well-groomed “idols” that have gone through years of rigorous training, and the label heads are masterminds that oversee nearly every movement of their creations. Despite its manufactured tendencies, the fans—from Paris to Tokyo—love it. And it’s evident in the numbers as the profit margin increases yearly, raking in the billions (trust, they’re dollars not yen).

I know what y’all are thinking: What the heck is a “variety drama”?

To be honest I’m not sure I understand it either, but that could be because it’s one of those terms people started using ’cause it sounded good, not because it made sense. And dramaland sure understands that concept, doesn’t it? (LOL)

Thanks to the unexpected success of tvN’s Answer Me, 1997 earlier this year, PDs elsewhere are looking to replicate that with projects of their own. No surprise there, since people will be chasing success with imitators for the rest of time. What does stand out as being unusual is that it’s not drama PDs who’re planning the next such show, but variety PDs.

One of Answer Me, 1997′s notable achievements (aside from the whole pop-culture phenom thing, and the breaking ratings records thing) is that it crossed that line keeping variety producers on one side of the biz and drama writers on the other. It was directed (well, I might add) by a former PD of weekend mainstay 1N2D and another with Gag Concert credits. It was written (very well) by a team of writers formerly with 1N2D. Prior to Answer Me, it seemed odd — even unheard of — for variety producers to cross over into scripted programming, much less do it with such aplomb. Even now I’m surprised at just how their experience didn’t seem to play a factor in the show.

Currently KBS is in early planning stages to slot a “variety drama” as a replacement for Love and War 2, the Couples Clinic show on Friday nights. They’d once discussed putting in the Drama Special anthology series there, but those talks faded after Love and War 2 recently got extended for another 20 episodes, and now the variety-drama is the likely successor.

So the variety-drama term really seems to just mean drama, made by people who formerly worked in variety. O…kay. Guess that doesn’t quite have the same ring, though. But I’m all for crossing over and breaking down boundaries, so kudos for that. And while this new program won’t be competing directly against the Answer Me sequel, that’ll be the show to catch for all the imitators who I’m sure will be cropping up on the horizon. The sequel will try to recapture the same lightning in a bottle with 1994 as its backdrop, and I’ll be crossing my fingers for it to do just that.

[JPN NEWS] 121210 JYJ reached court settlement in Korea; Unable to hold activities in Japan due to continuous dispute

JYJ3′s Note: This is how a Japanese tabloid is reporting JYJ and SM settlement agreement and the future JYJ’s activities in Japan. It’s not the first time these tabloids share bad press about JYJ
Please remind that we have a schedule of Avex and C-JeS Entertainment Court Judgement on January 18th, Link
To the people that follow the Japanese Lawsuit, AVEX have pointed the exclusive contract of SM and JYJ as a reason why JYJ is unable to hold activities in Japan, but with the recent news of SM releasing JYJ of any exclusive contract, we think AVEX is running out of arguments to defend their position. Hopefully things will improve in Japan despite what it says on this article.

On 28th Nov, the 3 members of Korean Idol Group JYJ and its former agency SM Entertainment (“SM”) reached court settlement in Korea on the dispute of exclusive agency contracts.

Jaejoong (26), Yuchun (26) and Junsu, 3 former members of Korean group Tohoshinki, applied for temporary injunction in July 2009 on their exclusive agency contracts based on the reasons that their 14-year contract was too long and there was unfair royalty distribution.

In addition, in April 2010, the 3 members sign-on a newly setup agency and formed JYJ. This means wishes of fans for the “5 to re-group” again became in vain, and the group split up to become Tohoshinki with Yunho (26) and Changmin (24), and JYJ.

It’s been 3 years 4 months after the temporary injunction which started it all. With the court settlement this time, all law suits between SM and JYJ had been withdrawn, and both parties signed an agreement to “not interfere with each other’s activities”.

Yoo Jae Suk & Kim Jong Kook spotted hosting VJ Ryu Kwon Ryeol’s wedding

‘Nation’s MC’ Yoo Jae Suk and singer Kim Jong Kook were recently spotted hosting a wedding for ‘Running Man‘ video journalist and cameraman Ryu Kwon Ryeol.

Longtime viewers of the show ‘Running Man’ will find the name familiar, as he has built up some fame for being Yoo Jae Suk’s sidekick cameraman and for being the butt of innumerable jokes, usually regarding his failure to keep up with the fleet-footed emcee and for focusing the camera where it shouldn’t be.

Yoo Jae Suk can be seen standing on the dais, while Kim Jong Kook appears to be getting ready to sing a congratulatory song for the new couple. The two celebrities have long been known to be a ‘wedding package’, appearing together at numerous functions.

Rumors of Girls’ Generation’s impending comeback have been swirling, as sources are saying that Girls’ Generation is planning to make their comeback in Korea some time in January, 2013 with their fourth full-length Korean album.

The source stated to Star News, “Girls’ Generation has been working on their Korean album in the midst of their Japanese activities. There is a high possibility that Girls’ Generation’s official fourth album will be releasing in early January.” They continued, ”As the title song has been decided on already, work on the official album is close to being finished. We are currently deciding on the final release date.” Regarding Girls’ Generation’s rumored English album, the source stated, “It’s a bit early to be answering anything about releasing an album overseas.”

Further adding to the speculation, a representative from SM Entertainment said, “It is true that we are in the last stages in preparation for the fourth album. But there isn’t anything decided on regarding whether it will be in January or what month. We will keep preparing and mediate the time”, and that Girls’ Generation would be juggling their promotions for both Korea and Japan.

Rookie girl group Crayon Pop have sold out their Japanese mini-concert in just under an hour!

The girls made their debut in Japan prior to promoting in Korea. They’ve been featured as endorsement models for various cosmetic, such as Coco Blue, and beverage brands. To keep their popularity going, the members of Crayon Pop have decided to open a ‘Crayon Pop 2013 New Year Mini Concert‘ in Shibuya in January.

The concert will be a part of their upcoming Japanese promotions, and it’s off to a good start as tickets for the concert sold out just an hour after going on sale. Fans who weren’t able to purchase the tickets made enough requests to make concert directors consider adding another date.

Chrome Entertainment stated, “We’re all surprised and grateful due to the unexpected support Crayon Pop have been receiving in Japan for their mini-concert. We’re planning on adding another concert date filled with fun stages and honest talk times, so that people can fully grasp Crayon Pop’s various charms.”

MBC to also cancel ‘Quiz Show Q’

MBC has sure been on a cancellation spree as it has been revealed that variety show ‘Quiz Show Q‘ is also on the chopping block.

A program representative revealed, “Due to change occurring in the time slot, it seems unavoidable that ‘Quiz Show Q’ will be canceled. However, it will continue to broadcast until February. This program was also reviewed as having low ratings.”

A daily historical drama ‘Huh Joon‘ is expected to be aired starting in March during the current time slot that ‘Quiz Show Q’ occupies . Many viewers are left wondering what MBC will be doing to replace the other canceled shows: ‘I Am A Singer 2‘, ‘Come to Play‘, and ‘What Is Mom‘.

"Client error: Maximum queued posts for this community+poster combination reached." LMAO I guess I did post a lot today. In my defense I was bored at school and the only alternative was reading "A portrait of the artist".

Obviously, the footage may be disturbing to some. Watch at your own discretion.

I'm not very familiar with road laws in Korea, but there's no doubt the driver was going incredibly fast, although another car passes almost as fast a few moments later. Were they in a fast lane or something of the sort? Even so, it seems pretty foolish to be driving at that speed when the road conditions are so bad.
