MBC cancels variety show Come to Play

Wow, someone’s gone trigger-happy over at MBC — right on the heels of the network’s sitcom cancellation (What Is a Mom? and the sitcom time slot along with it) the broadcaster has announced the sudden cancellation of Yoo Jae-suk talk show Come to Play, after eight years on the air as a variety mainstay.

The Monday night multi-guest studio talk show co-hosted with Kim Won-hee is eight years in the running and was just about to hit the 400-episode mark. It’s also had a stable of rotating guest hosts, and is the show Eun Ji-won joined post-1 Night 2 Days. The ratings are the biggest reason for the cancellation, as they’ve been regularly dipping below 5% against SBS talk show Healing Camp and KBS talk show Hello.

An underperforming show getting the axe isn’t unusual, but Come to Play was cut with no warning to producers and stars, and will not be given a chance to shoot a farewell episode. They’re just going to air what’s in the can and let it quietly fade out, which is a really strange way to handle a show that’s headlined by star MC Yoo Jae-suk, and been on the air for so long. The fan reaction seems decidedly shocked and upset at the way the cancellation was handled.

PSY apologises for Anti American lyrics.

On December 7, singer PSY who is currently residing in U.S. made an official statement concerning his past Anti-American behaviour. He stated, “I regret using such aggressive and negative words in the past. I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my words.”

He continued, “As a proud Korean and someone who has studied in U.S., I am perfectly aware of the sacrifices the American soldiers made to keep peace in the world. The song I sang eight years ago was in response to the death of two Korean girls by the American military tank and also to the war in Iraq. I still believe in the freedom of expression, but recently I have realized that words should be used carefully. I feel terrible that my lyrics may have been interpreted erroneously andhurt others.”

PSY added, “For past few months, I had the opportunity to perform in front of the U.S. soldiers. I felt truly honored. I again apologize for my past actions. I hope that the U.S. citizens can forgive me.”

In 2002, PSY has participated in the demonstration against the presence of U.S. military in Korea. In 2004, he has also written rap lyrics that were strongly Anti-American. Due to these past actions, some has argued that PSY should not be performing at the White House on December 8 for U.S. President Obama.

17-Year Old CEO Looks like IU

On December 7 on KBS’s “VJ Special Force,” the story of a 17-year old Kim Soo Jin was told. She is a successful CEO of an online shopping mall, and has previously appeared on MBN’s “Huma Docu Living” on September 11.

Her story is inspiring. When her father’s business went bankrupt, Kim Soo Jin quit high school and started her own online shopping website in February 2012. She personally selected and bought outfits to sell, and within six months, she grossed 100,000,000 won. (Approximately $92,000.00USD)

In addition to the fact that she is a mature and loyal daughter, she also has the looks. With her long straight hair, chubby cheeks, large eyes, and full lips, she resembles the singer IU.

After the show on her mini homepage, Kim Soo Jin left a message, “I didn’t let you guys know earlier because I didn’t want you to think I was going on TV just to promote by business. I agreed to appear on TV because I wanted to give hope to others. I wanted to show that even someone like me can be successful.”

‘Inkigayo’ reveals teaser clip for upcoming Gayo Daejun

The ‘2012 SBS Gayo Daejun‘ had previously announced its ‘Color of K-Pop‘ project, in which 20 idols would be divided into 4 groups by fan votes.

The 20 idols participating were B2ST‘s Kiwang and Yoseob, 2AM‘s Jinwoon and Jokwon, INFINITE‘s Woohyun and Hoya, MBLAQ‘s Lee Joon and G.O, TEEN TOP‘s Niel and L.Joe, KARA‘s Nicole and Jiyoung, SISTAR‘s Hyorin and Bora, SECRET‘s Hyosung and Sunhwa, 4minute‘s HyunA and Gayoon, and After School‘s Nana and Lizzy.

The groups were divided into Dynamic Black, who would work with Shinsadong Tiger, Dramatic Blue, who would work with Sweet Tune, Dazzling Red, who would work with Brave Brothers, and Mystic White, who would work with Kim Do Hoon.

The results of the voting has ended, and SBS has released the results. For the boys, Dynamic Black will be made up of Kikwang, Jinwoon, Hoya, Lee Joon, and L.Joe, while Dramatic Blue will consist of Yoseob, Jokwon, Woohyun, G.O, and Niel. As for the girls, Dazzling Red consists of Nicole, Hyorin, Hyosung, HyunA, and Nana, while Mystic White will be Jiyoung, Bora, Sunhwa, Gayoon, and Lizzy.

Seems like Hyorin didn’t exactly get her wish of being on the same team as Sunhwa, but what do you think of the teams? Which team is your favorite?

MBC cancels 'I Am A Singer 2'

MBC‘s Sunday evening music competition program, 'I Am A Singer 2', will be coming to an end.

“This had been decided upon since October,” an MBC representative stated. “Although it unfortunately fell within the cancellation of both ‘Come to Play‘ and ‘What is Mom‘, it is entirely a coincidence that they happened to fall together.”

The cancellation process began in the fall, with MBC stating that they had no plans to create Season 3. “The last episode will be broadcast on December 23rd.” he said.

Although ‘I Am a Singer 2′ began airing earlier this year with much fanfare, it was not able to live up to the success of its predecessor as
it was beset with quality control problems, stiff competition, and declining viewer interest.

Its replacement program will begin airing on January 6th. A specific plan for the show’s replacement has yet to be decided upon.

SABADO GIGANTE GANGNAM STYLE

‘International Star’ Psy has made yet another amazing achievement. On December 8th, the popular performer made a guest appearance on popular Spanish-language variety show ‘Sábado Gigante‘ (or ‘Giant Saturday’). The program is the longest running variety show (of any language) in history, having been broadcast for an astounding 50 years.

Hosted by Chilean TV star Mario Kreutzberger, under the stage name of Don Francisco, ‘Sábado Gigante’ is known to be a pretty outrageous variety show, what with the scantily clad woman and general mayhem. The show’s notoriety had some K-pop fans worried, but their concerns were alleviated after the broadcast as Psy’s appearance took place without any issues.
