"National Diva" BoA (26) will be going head to head with the Olympics.

It has been confirmed recently that BoA is set to make her comeback in the 4th week of July, thrilling many fans with the news. On July 12th, an official said, "BoA is scheduled to make her comeback around the end of the month and is working on last minute things."

Another official said, "In about two weeks, BoA seems to be scheduled to return at the end of July. Since BoA is already popular, a lot of music representatives are looking forward and have high hopes for her comeback."

BoA's comeback activities has attracted attention due to the fact that it will be around the time the London 2012 Olympics will begin. This year's Olympics will open on July 28th (Korea Time) until August 13th.

Artists will usually release albums and singles relating to the Olympics, avoiding promotions during major sporting events such as the Olympics and the World Cup. Therefore, new albums and new promotions from artists are usually not seen as these sporting events usually take the slots of entertainment programs.

However, BoA has shown strong confidence in her new album, in which she has prepared for a long time.

BoA last released her 6th Korean album, "Hurricane Venus," back in August 2010, marking her 10th Korean anniversary. This will be her first comeback in 2 years.

In addition, BoA has been nicknamed a "Goddess" for how beautiful she looked during her judge appearances on the first season of SBS "K-Pop Star." Including her charms, there is a heightened expectation for her new album.

In "Hurricane Venus," BoA showed a stylish, funky visual, along with a powerful stage presence and vocals.

Last month, BoA was spotted near Hongdae, Seoul with actors Baewoo and Yoo Ah-in at a cafe. The group were shooting for KBS "Win Win" as well as shooting a scene to which fans who saw them have speculated was for her music video, "killing two birds with one stone."

"Solo Queen" BoA will not be the only one returning this summer, as Son Dambi has also been announced that she herself will be returning with a new album.

Nearly all the preparation for her comeback has been completed including her music video and choreography. Her comeback is expected to not run into any delays.

Below are excerpts from the interview held in Seoul on July 6, where she talked about her musical influences, her hobbies and what she expects in her future.

Education is a sensitive matter in Korean politics and often causes controversy. A recent election pledge by the Democratic United Party (DUP) has been criticised by netizens as an attempt to remove the hierarchy between universities by abolishing Seoul National University (SNU) and merging all the public universities into a single system. But this pledge does not consider private universities such as Yonsei University and Korea University which are also part of an educational hierarchy. It also fails to consider the impact on the overall standard of education at national universities. The general response from netizens in the top comments is one of outrage, with many criticising the plan as rash.

Boy group Big Star‘s music video for their debut track “Hot Boy” has been receiving a great deal of attention.

The music video for “Hot Boy” was revealed on July 12th through Brave Entertainment‘s official YouTube channel and has received numerous hits upon its release. The blockbuster worthy music video was created with three grand sets and a production cost of 300 million won (~$260,100 USD) and viewers expressed their awe by saying, Is this a music video or a movie?,Above the scale compared to other rookies,” “The scene of them dancing in fire is so cool,” and The performance of the Big Star members prevents me from looking away.”

Along with the impressive music video, the outfits that the members of Big Star are wearing in the music video have also been drawing attention. Big Star’s agency Brave Entertainment said, “For this album, the worldwide hottest brand items from Dolce, Versace, Chrome Hearts, Balmain, and Givenchy were used and Brave Brothers personally brought them from overseas. To bring out the image of a ‘hot boy’, clothing, shoes, and accessories were  all given much thought by Brave Brothers. His thought and care was amazing.

On another note, Big Star’s debut track “Hot Boy” has been ranking fairly high on online music portal sites since its release and the boys started their official promotions with their debut stage on this weeks M! Countdown.

Net neutrality arguments are often couched in rather theoretical terms, and many people can't really see what all the fuss is about. A recent decision in South Korea gives a handy example of what the loss of net neutrality means in practice:
  • In a move that has critics crying that it is ignoring net neutrality principles, the Korea Communications Commission said last week that it will let three local mobile operators, SK Telecom, KT and LG U+, charge users extra fees for VOIP [voice over IP] applications or block their use entirely.
Among the VOIP services affected is the mobile phone messaging app KakaoTalk, which has a massive following in South Korea:
  • KakaoTalk has 36 million Korean users and 9.2 million international users. More than half of 50 million Korean cell phone owners use smartphones, according to the Korea Communications Commission.
In other words, thanks to this latest ruling, tens of millions of KakaoTalk users in South Korea will either be forced to pay more, or may even find the service blocked completely. It's hard to see why the South Korean telecom authority decided this kind of tilted playing field was a good idea: the only ones to benefit are the mobile operators who get to attack new entrants that threatened to disrupt their market, while huge numbers of Korean citizens will be worse off as a result. You could hardly hope for a better demonstration of why net neutrality matters, and is not some purely theoretical concern.

TechDirt.com
Well this is going to screw over a lot of people. RIP KakaoTalk and Naver Line.
