Wonder Girls wrap new U.S. album

Park Jin-young, CEO of JYP Entertainment, said Saturday that the Wonder Girls has finished work on its new U.S. album and is ready to return to Korea this summer.

Park, a famed singer and producer in his own right, wrote on his Twitter page that the group had finished recording the new album, which will be released only in the United States, as well as a music video for one of the songs. But he left readers guessing about the album's content.

"There is a big surprise in the title song," Park wrote.

He also noted that the release date has not yet been set. "We are currently gauging when to release the album with our partners in the U.S., so please wait a little while," he wrote.

Park added that the Wonder Girls, which made its debut in 2007, will resume its activities in Korea this summer.

"The Wonder Girls have started work on a Korean album, and I hope Koreans fans will also get excited about that," Park said. "This summer, let's make it a festival of the Wonder Girls in Korea and overseas."

Nicole, Key, Jinwoon & Mir of the ’91 line reunite at Inkigayo

KARA’s Nicole recently shared a photo of her and the ’91 line at a taping of Inkigayo.

The singer uploaded the photo via Twitter with the caption: “My friends came down to see me today! Friends forever.” Present in the photo are SHINee’s Key, 2AM’s Jinwoon, and MBLAQ’s Mir, all members of the Nicole-started ’91 line. The ’91 line is a ‘club’ formed by the quartet, all of whom are close friends.

Netizens have commented on the seemingly tight-knit friendship shared by the group, commenting: “I guess the ’91 crew are really close,” “The ’91 line needs more female members,” and “I can’t believe Nicole, Key and Jinwoon are all friends!”

Meanwhile, each member of the ’91 line are all well busy with their own individual activities. Key is back with SHINee to promote their fourth mini-album Sherlock as well as Jinwoon of 2AM with their second mini-album, F.Scott Fitzgerald’s Way of Love. Nicole on the other hand is currently Inkigayo’s MC alongside with IU.

SECRET & B.A.P take a family photo in Singapore

SECRET and B.A.P recently held a joint fan meeting in Singapore, and took a “family photo” to commemorate the occasion.

Earlier on March 26th, TS Entertainment released a photo of the two groups through the company’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts. The two groups showcased their friendship as they gathered around for the photo looking comfortable around each other like a family.

The photo was taken at Sentosa in Singapore near famous tourist attractions Universal Studios and Wave House. Although the purpose of the trip was to attend the fan meeting, the two groups took some time to enjoy the surroundings with each other.

Tablo’s father passes away

Rapper Tablo‘s father has unfortunately passed away on March 26th.

A representative of YG Entertainment revealed, “Tablo’s father Lee Gwang Boo passed away after suffering from a chronic disease on the morning of March 26th.”

Tablo is currently standing at his wake in tears with wife Kang Hye Jung at a funeral parlor in the Samsung Hospital in Seoul. The coffin will be borne out on March 28th.

May he rest in peace, and we hope that Tablo and his friends and family find the strength to make it through this difficult time.

REPORTING FROM SEOUL -- On his third visit to South Korea, President Obama seems to have caught the “Korean Wave.”

The term for the surge and spread of Korean pop culture -- “hallyu” in Korean -- popped up in the president’s speech on Monday, along with a sprinkle of other in-the-know references intended to show he could hang with the kids of Hankuk University, the audience for his otherwise policy-heavy speech.

Song Byeok had every reason to be pleased with his success. A gift for drawing led to a prestigious career as a propaganda artist and full membership in North Korea's communist party.

Then the food shortages started.

Like tens of thousands of other North Koreans in the mid-1990s, Song made forays across the Tumen River to find food in China. Despite witnessing a better material life across the border, he says, he never doubted that North Korea was culturally superior. He never considered leaving his homeland for anything more than food.

"I was a believer. I saw North Koreans as pure," Song said. "And we needed the Great Leader to protect us from outsiders."

Today, Song paints in Seoul, South Korea, his art haunted by his former whole-hearted belief in the North Korean regime. Song's paintings chronicle a personal, often agonizing journey from child-like allegiance to the country's founder and "Great Leader," Kim Il Sung, and his son, "Dear Leader" Kim Jong Il, to Song's life today as a contemporary artist.
