Big Bang‘s T.O.P drove his fans crazy after doing a ‘wave’ dance that completely contradicts his mysterious and charismatic image.

T.O.P, along with his fellow Big Bang members G-Dragon, Daesung, Taeyang, and Seungri performed labelmate 2NE1‘s “I Am The Best” for ’YG Family 15th Anniversary Concert‘, which is currently taking place in Japan.

Dressed in all black, the members flawlessly performed both the solo and group dances that are an essential part of the “I Am The Best” performance. What drove the audience especially wild, however, was handsome rapper T.O.P’s sexy wave dance that showcased his silly and playful side.

Netizens who saw the footage responded with comments such as, “I want to see the actual video, not a fan cam“, “I want to see the Japanese fans’ reactions“, and more.

Meanwhile, the YG artists such as Big Bang, Jinusean, 2NE1, Se7en, Gummy, Tablo, Psy, and more performed 41 songs total during their 3 and a half hour-long performance.

They recently wrapped up their Osaka show, and will be performing at the Saitama Super Arena next on January 21st and 22nd.

America may be stereotyped as having an entire generation of kids currently being raised on video games and Mountain Dew, but there’s at least one other nation that tops us in terms of childhood gaming obsession.

That would be South Korea, where gaming addiction is a serious problem among youths, so much so that last year a ban went into effect which does not allow kids under the age of 16 to game online between 12 AM and 6 AM in order to force them to get some sleep.

This was originally meant to be mainly for PC games, as titles like Starcraft are by far the most popular in South Korea, but it has since extended to consoles. Sony had trouble getting the Playstation in line with the rules, but finally did so last fall. Now, Microsoft is falling in line as well.

An announcement on the official Korean Xbox site states that as of February 1st, 2012, Xbox Live will be offline from 12-6 AM for those under 16. And if you think that a clever Korean kid might skirt the ban with a phony age, the country’s national ID system doesn’t let things like that happen on nearly as widespread of a scale as it does here.

Is this a good idea for America? We have far more pressing issues at hand, but I could envision an intrepid politician bringing up such an idea at some point. I’m not sure if it would be a Republican cause, because though they are usually the anti-violent game brigade, the idea is also tantamount to the government stepping into the role of a parent, something they seem to resist when it has to do with healthy school lunches and the like.

I’m not sure it’s entirely necessary in America. Even with our kids playing more games than ever, I think it’s a very select few who are up during those hours gaming. If they are, that’s a parenting problem of either not paying enough attention, or doing something unwise like giving a child a TV and console in their room.

We’ll keep our freedoms for now, but I predict video game addiction will be an increasing problem both in our country and many others in the future as games figure out how to be even more appealing, and their player bases become more widespread. This idea might reach our shores someday to be sure.

‘Diablo 3′s’ controversial auction house feature is holding the game back from receiving approval in South Korea, which may halt the game’s simultaneous release.

Though Diablo 3 is, in fact, not releasing as soon as this February, it’s still presumed to be releasing some time this year — that is if one small issue can get worked out. That issue in question involves Diablo 3 getting rejected not once, but twice by a South Korean Ratings Board.

The biggest problem the ratings board is having with approving Diablo 3 has nothing to do with its violence, which is typically a deal breaker for many country’s ratings boards, but centers around the game’s new auction house feature. You see, to combat selling products through outside sources like EBay and Craigslist, Blizzard has created a marketplace for players to sell their wares for real cash.

The cash that would be trading hands has to first jump through a few hoops before becoming useable currency, but it’s still possible to sell virtual items and turn an actual profit — and it’s that “cash out” option that the South Korea ratings board is continuing to struggle with.

A first-year player for South Korean's Doosan Bears baseball team was found dead on Tuesday while attending the league's rookie seminar, local media reported.

The Korea Baseball Organisation (KBO) identified the player's surname as Lee. He was 22.

Police suspect the player had fallen down a flight of stairs while drunk, according to the Yonhap news agency.

The KBO said Lee's body was discovered at around 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday on stairs leading to the basement of a condo in South Chungcheong Province, south of Seoul.

The organisation began its annual rookie seminar at the condo on Monday with 140 new players.

A KBO official said police were investigating the case and will do an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The officials said players were lodged in rooms on the third to sixth floors.

JYJ’s Yoochun
is expected to make his TV drama comeback in March through SBS “Attic Prince.” It would be his third TV drama appearance and first since MBC “Miss Ripley,” which ended last July.

We’re positively considering Park Yoochun as the lead role for ‘Attic Prince.’ We haven’t signed any contracts yet, but we’ve verbally committed to it,” multiple sources have told Star News.

If Yoochun does pick up this role, he would become one of the very few actors to be cast in dramas of all three major broadcasters. In 2010, he appeared in KBS “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and last year played a major role in MBC “Miss Ripley.”

In “Attic Prince,” Yoochun will play a prince from the Chosun dynasty who time travels 300 years ahead to meet with a girl that resembles the crown princess. The script is written by Lee Hee Myung, whose previous work includes SBS dramas “Mr. Q” and “Tomato,” and will be directed by Shin Yoon Sup, who produced SBS drama “KAIST."

Hallyu’s leading enterprise SM Entertainment will be aiming to add value to their company by not only producing albums, but distributing them all over Asia. They will be officially making their breakthrough in China with their new Chinese boy group EXO-M. And although most artists make most of their overseas profit from the Japanese market, SM plans to break free from the mold and attempt to be successful in China with the release of EXO-M.

MK recently held an interview with representative Kim Young Min from SM Entertainment who said, “I guess you can say that we have constructed the market conditions so that now, we can create a music format to break into the Asian market. Our goal this year is to launch into the Asian market, collaborating with corporations in China and Japan. We are keeping all of our options open, and reviewing them over carefully.”

On January 9th, X-5 sat down for an interview to talk about their reflections on working with labelmate senior Jun Jin at the ‘Open World Festival in Tokyo‘ last year.

Leader Gun said, “There’s a reason why Shinhwa is considered legendary. They have enough stage experience to catch exactly what the crowd wants. Watching over them was like watching their history and experience.”

Zin continued, “While performing with Jun Jin and The Boss, we realized what a difference experience can make. They freely enjoyed the stage and the concert with their fans, which was something we still had to learn.”

The festival was a meaningful one in that it marked Jun Jin’s return from the army; it was also the first collaboration stage between The Boss and X-5.

Gun stated, “This was only our first concert together, so we hope that it will become a concert that can be long-lasting and well-loved in Japan. Our dream is to perform at the Tokyo Dome together.”

Rookie boy idol group B1A4′s total album sales reached 100,000 copies by this year January.

Pony Canyon Korea who is the recording label company of B1A4′s albums revealed on January 10th “Even though B1A4 is currently on their break without any active album promotions, their first mini album “Let’s Fly” and their second mini album “it B1A4″ sales figures are still increasing steadily” also “We also faced some extraordinary incidents where the shops couldn’t sell more because they were out of stock”.
Also, they continued, “B1A4′s total album sales exceeds over 100,000 copies in Korea only” which showed the scary power of the group.

By the end of 2011, the Hanteo Chart (the representative music chart of South Korea) revealed the rankings of the top 50 best selling albums of 2011 where B1A4′s second mini album “it B1A4″ was on #22, they were the only rookies who made in the top 50 among the rookies who made their debut last year.

This relevant ranking was calculated by compiling all the datas from 1st of January 2011 till the 31st of December 2011 by Hanteo Chart and it is more meaningful because B1A4 is a rookie group who made their debut in April 2011 but joined the other male idol groups like Super Junior, Big Bang, TVXQ and girl groups like Girls’ Generation and many other senior artists in the TOP 50
.
Furthermore, the group ranked first in the rookie category while creating an overwhelming gap with other rookie groups, their mini album sales figure placed 5th, joining other artists like Big Bang, Kim Hyunjoong, Park Jaebum in the chart and proved their ‘Super Rookie’ power.

B1A4 will be departuring for Osaka, Japan on the 10th to attend the 26th Golden Disk Awards.

Meanwhile, Hanteo Chart calculates the total sales figure by compiling and adding all the points from their joint music stores and the sales figures from online internet music shopping malls after considering all the variables, on the other hand, the artists’ agency checks their sales record by asking their distributors so it’s normal even if the two sales figure differ.

K-Pop girl group’s representing the top three entertainment agencies in Korea (JYPSM, and YG Entertainment) plan to release their albums one after another in the United States beginning this January.

Wonder Girls will start things off with their American single, “The DJ is Mine,” which will be released later this week on January 11. SNSD plans to release a special edition album of “The Boys” in the U.S. as well as Europe. The album will be avalible for purchase offline as well as through digital downloads with the group directly challenging the Billboard charts. 2NE1 has been working with famous American producer Will.i.amas their recording sessions have come to a close, while the countdown for their expansion into the US market has begun. At this time, however, the exact date for their U.S. debut is still unknown.

On February 2, the Wonder Girl’s TV movie “Wonder Girls at the Apollo” will air on the U.S. cable stationTeen Nick. In conjunction with the debut of their TV movie, a full-length studio album will also be released.

This past December, 2NE1 was crowned the “MTV Iggy’s Best New Band in the World” for 2011 and even headlined a concert in New York City at the MTV Studios to celebrate their win. Just recently Will.i.am posted about 2NE1 through his Twitter account saying, "2NE1 is coming out crazy.” The post has grabbed the attention of the public. Also back in December, the U.S. public broadcast radio station, NPR brought up the topic of the Hallyu Wave, more specifically focusing on K-Pop’s advances in America, mentioning the genre's front runners SNSD, 2NE1, and the Wonder Girls in their report. Since then, SNSD had already begun selling reserve copies online of their special version of "The Boys."

Together these three girl groups will be taking on the US market soon. The drive to breakthrough into the world’s largest music market has always been there, but up until recently the attempts haven’t yielded the desired results. As the popularity of K-Pop has grown throughout the world, the chances of K-Pop doing well in the western world have increased. Some argue that now just might be the right time for K-Pop to take off abroad.

Which group do you think has the most potential in the U.S.?

On January 10, MBLAQ’s fourth mini-album “100% Ver.” was officially released. Even before the release, the album has been a hot topic; and since its release, it has continued to gain enormous popularity. The title of MBLAQ’s latest album has many meanings. “100% Ver.” stands for how hard MBLAQ prepared for the album - that they are back 100%, put 100% into perfecting the album’s quality, satisfied 100% with the result, and are making their comeback with 100% confidence.

J. Tune Entertainment stated, “Over the weekend, the printing company will have to print more CDs due to the fact that we have surpassed 40,000 albums during the pre-order period alone.”

As soon as the group unveiled their music video for “It’s War,” they easily became the most searched on many search engines. As of now, the song “It’s War” has taken the top spot on several major music charts. It is clear that the title track is instantly becoming a smash hit.

Five member girl group KARA will be going international in February with an overseas tour! Starting with a concert in Korea this February, the girls will be hitting major cities in Asia to meet with their many fans. They are still in the process of securing the dates for their concert, moving around the events they have in Korea and Japan.

KARA will be performing ‘KARASIA‘ at Olympic Hall in Seoul on February 18th & 19th, and this is the girls’ first independent concert since their debut in 2007 with ‘Blooming‘. The tour title is appropriate, as KARA is embarking on this tour to become one with their fans in Asia, hence, KARASIA.

A representative from their agency DSP Media informed StarNews on the 11th, “KARA had put on numerous performances in the past and fan meet-and-greets as well, but this is the first time they are putting on an independent concert since their debut. The girls have come a long way, now being one of Korea’s top girl groups and they plan on meeting with all of their fans that have supported them for the entirety of their journey.”

The fans themselves have been anxiously waiting for a concert. Their agency reserved one of Korea’s largest halls to ensure that a large number of fans would be able to see their favorite girl group. The tickets for the concert are being sold at a rapid rate.

KARA is without a doubt at the forefront of the Hallyu wave, going back and forth between Korea and Japan. They showcased their adorable charms and powerful performances with hit songs like “Mister“, “Jumping“, “Honey“, “Pretty Girl“, and more, while “Mister”, “Go Go Summer“, “Jetcoaster Love” and more were huge hits in Japan.

KARA has been highly acknowledged in Japan and has become one of the hottest girl groups today. They have earned the honor of performing at the NHK Red & White Music Festival last month, an opportunity reserved only for the most elite of Japanese celebrities.

Former REM frontman Michael Stipe is the executive producer behind a new short film of a gay Korean man who yearns for a family, which the director used to come out to his own parents.

The short, entitled Dol, will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival this year, Indie music news site Electric Banana reports.

Writer and director Andrew Ahn says he used the film to come out to his own parents, who agreed to feature in it as actors without knowing their son was gay.

In the film, Nick is a gay Korean-American man living in Los Angeles’ Korean neighbourhood with his partner.

When Nick attends his nephew’s dol, a traditional Korean first birthday party, he finds himself longing for a life out of reach to him.

Ahn said: “I made this film to come out to my parents. I knew I wouldn’t be able to tell them, to say the words ‘I’m gay’.

“So I cast my family in the film, but never told them that it was about a gay Korean-American man. The filmmaking process both distracted from and prepared me for the inevitable – that I would eventually have to show my parents the finished film.”

Stipe came out in 2008, telling US magazine Spin: “I was totally open with the band and my family and my friends and certainly the people I was sleeping with. I thought it was pretty obvious.

“I’d just never felt strongly enough about a particular relationship to say, ‘Yeah, he’s my boyfriend, that is what it is.’

“Now I recognise that to have public figures be very open about their sexuality helps some kid somewhere out there.”
