YG Entertainment’s famous producer Teddy recently expressed why he thinks the “KPop Syndrome” is taking the world by storm.

Teddy is probably one of the most well-known producers in Korea, having produced popular hits such as Taeyang’s “Look Only At Me,” Uhm Junghwa’s “D.I.S.C.O,” Big Bang’s “Sunset Glow,” and many of Big Bang & 2NE1′s songs such as “Lollipop.”

This year marks Teddy’s 12th year since he began producing and as both a producer and a musician (Teddy was a member of YG’s hip hop group 1TYM), there is no doubt that he has significantly influenced the KPop wave. The songs that he produced for 2NE1 are extremely popular in foreign countries such as France, Mexico and Brazil.

Teddy recently sat down for an interview with Star News Asia in which

he described the “2NE1 Syndrome” in regions such as Europe an obvious result” and stated that KPop has a unique charm.

Teddy believes that the “KPop Syndrome” is so popular because KPop mixes elements of Western and Eastern music to produce a new, charming song. He stated, “I’ve recently been told that 2NE1′s music is popular in Mexico and Brazil. People are always amazed at which country these songs come from.”

It is natural for foreigners to like KPop. Since childhood, foreigners become accustomed to the Western style of music and see familiar artists, while KPop brings a new flavor that they have never heard before. Teddy said, “In terms of 2NE1, the powerful and trendy mixed with their oriental looks brings a new and unique atmosphere.”

When asked which group is the most concentrated and determined, Teddy answered with 2NE1. He described them as “4 very good singers” and “No matter what I tell them to do, they will always come back with a result.”

Teddy is currently collaborating with Black Eyed Pea’s leader, will.i.am, and has been drawing attention for his work both domestically and internationally. Recently, he produced GD & TOP’s album and all of 2NE1′s releases.

Popular Korean dance and vocal group Tohoshinki attended a press conference for their appearance in the first TV CM after restarting their activities.

Tohoshinki will be working with the 7 & i Group on their summer campaign. In the promotional CM for Sogo-Seibu’s “Silver Bear’s Silver Card,” Tohoshinki dances together with the mascot character, the Silver bear, to their new song “I Don’t Know.”

As the Silver bear was digitally added using CG, Yunho said sadly, “I wanted to meet the bear but it was added using CG…” then looked at the Silver bear which was placed at a side, asking it “Have you been well?” and creating a lot of laughter. Also, with regards to the dance choreography for the new song, Changmin revealed, “Honestly speaking, we only did 15 seconds of the dance for the CM,” and “I’m looking forward to seeing what the whole thing will look like, so let’s anticipate it together,” he commented.

The shooting was done together with both Japanese and Korean staff. Yunho said, “It’s been a long time since we’ve worked with the Japanese staff so I was nervous, but we managed to settle in quickly, and did the shoot with a good feeling,” thinking back to the photoshoot. Changmin said, “I was interpreting (for the staff),” and talked about the episodes.

After both men had viewed the complete CM, Yunho praised the Silver bear, saying “He danced better than we did.” Changmin then retorted, “It’s a pity that his arms and legs are too short,” to which Yunho replied, “But that can’t be helped” with a laugh, showing the closeness between the two.

Also, their participation in “a-nation,” the outdoor music festival organised by Avex, was announced, and Yunho commented, “I’m happy to be able to participate (in a-nation) again after two years. I want to work hard, and will not be defeated by the heat,” and Changmin said, “a-nation is a big summer event, and  we are able to participate in it again after two years, so I want to show a passionate stage,” with determination. With regards to the Tohoku Earthquake, Changmin said, “(The victims) must have suffered a lot. I want to tell them, let us work hard together to overcome this (disaster)”

The new CM will start airing on 13 May. The song that was used in the CM, “I Don’t Know,” is being released as a limited edition single. Also, during the campaign period, “Tohoshinki Reccommended Gifts” (Mid-year Presents) will also be introduced via 7-Eleven, Ito Yokado, 7net shopping and other stores.

T-ara’s Hyomin recently shared her talented drawing skills with her fans.

On May 11th, the idol tweeted, “Finished with script practice. I was bored and doodling and finished the one and only poster for ‘Gisaeng Ryung‘ because I was so absorbed. Maybe it’s because I got sensitive these days, but I keep hearing weird noises, boo hoo.” She also shared her own poster for the horror movie, as well as other shots revealing her drawing process.

Hyomin was captured in a casual outfit wearing giant glasses and her hair pulled together in a ponytail. The poster portrays a child trapped in a clay pot, giving off a scary and eerie feeling. It is surprisingly realistic, proving that her drawing skills exceed far beyond an average person’s.

Netizens commented, “You draw really well. You could use the picture as the official poster”, “You could’ve been an art student”, and “The picture is too scary“.

Hyomin is currently filming the horror movie “Gisaeng Ryung” with actress Han Eun Jung.

A few recent news reports have highlighted the popularity of Korean pop music in France. On TV, there were interviews with young French K-pop fans, who gathered in front of the Louvre calling for an extra concert of Korean teen idol groups after the tickets for the first sold out. Another report covered the arrival of 50 French teens who visited Seoul for a fan meeting with a pop band. Many Koreans felt that the "Korean Wave" has finally arrived on Europe's shores.

And why not? Impeccably groomed, their dances worked out to a T and with addictive rhythms to boot, they are bound to dazzle young audiences. But it may be too early to conclude that the Korean Wave has gripped Europe after a few performances by a handful of groups.

Recently, Korea's official chart Gaon released information on K-Pop's rankings for the month of April. To no surprise, girl group 4Minute charted high in every ranking. For online downloads, "Mirror Mirror" ceased the number one spot from strong competition. Clearly the hook of the song swept over South Korea to incite a 4Minute Syndrome! The softer track, "Heart to Heart" clinched the number seven spot, even though many had once complained of it not showcasing 4Minute's unique color. That didn't seem to stop many from buying it though.

Meanwhile, over on the digital overall chart (a synthesis of online streaming, mobile sales, minihompy BGM and downloads), shadow title track "Mirror Mirror" scored the number two spot under Big Bang for total downloads for April. Many had doubted 4Minute's comeback would make any type of dent what with a senior group such as Big Bang promoting as well, but the clearly wasn't a need for much worrying since sales for both song were neck and neck. Also, the other title track "Heart to Heart" sat pretty just six spots below at number eight.

These are but a few rankings in which the 4Minute girls triumphed over in the past month.

smashing all your faves once again!!!!

Singer and actor Rain (Jeong Ji-hoon) is taking civil action against the tenant in his building.

He filed for action on the 18th of January against the tenant Mr. Park in his building and the first trial will take place on the 18th of May.

A spokesperson said, "The tenant has not once paid additional taxes and hasn't paid the rent at all since last September". Apparently the contract has also been up since the 31st of March but he hasn't vacated the building.

The tenant moved into Rain's building in 2009 but hasn't been paying the rent, refusing eviction and demanding compensation for his work that got destroyed due to a leak in the building in 2010.
