Indie band ‘No Reply’ bring ~meaningful~ lyrics to Kpop

No Reply, an indie band consisting of vocalist Kwon Sun Kwan and guitarist Jung Wook Jae, first debuted in 2006 by winning second place at the ‘Yoo Jae Ha Music Contest‘.

They’ve been much loved for their soft, calm music and emotional lyrics. Although the duo released only two albums during their four year career – “Road” (2009) and “Dream” (2010) – they’ve demonstrated that a band doesn’t need to constantly pump out releases in order to stay relevant. Fans have been watching the duo’s growth, as they learned how to convey deeper emotions into their songs, and 10asia conducted an interview with the duo to reveal the men behind the music – fans got to take a look behind the emotions they felt, what wasn’t expressed through their songs, and their dreams for the future.

4Minute Will Hold Another Solo Concert in Japan!

Though CUBE has just announced 4Minute's upcoming comeback for Korea, it seems like they will still be busy preparing for more promotional activities in Japan.

It has just been announced through 4Minute's Official Japanese Fansite that "4Minute LIVE Energy Vol.2" will be held in the last month of the year. This will be an exclusive 2-day solo concert of 4Minute to be held at two different venues: Zepp Tokyo (December 4, 2010; Saturday) and DOJIMA RIVER FORUM (December 5, 2010; Sunday). Tickets will be sold for 5,000 yen. Back in May, 4Minute held LIVE ENERGY Vol. 1 concerts in commemoration for their Japanese debut. The concerts were a hit and shot "Muzik (Japanese Ver.)" to number 21 on Oricon.

This event will be done for promotion of their full length Japanese album being released on the first of December.

Park is suffering from a neurodegenerative disease called Lou Gehrig’s Disease, better known as ‘ALS‘. KARA's New Japanese Drama "URAKARA"

Popular 5-member Korean girl group KARA will star in the TV Tokyo drama “URAKARA”. The drama will begin airing on January 14th.

The drama will be filmed in both Japan and Korea. The girls, who are inexperienced in love, will go to a “love shop” and accomplish love missions. The 5 members will play themselves.

KARA debuted in Korea in March 2007. This August they had their Japanese debut with “Mister” which featured their “butt dance”, which was a big hit. The 5 girls are at the peak of their popularity and they wanted to show more charm than just singing and dancing, so they all expressed a desire to act as well. They will have the joy of performing in their first drama which will be done in both Japan and Korea.

During the drama, they will try various ways to put the target man in a trance and fall for them. They are looking forward to beginning production at the end of this month, but since it’s their first time they’re also nervous.

The language will be both Japanese and Korean; when Korean is spoken there will be subtitles on the bottom of the screen. All of the members can speak conversational Japanese, but the girls are currently studying how to put certain feelings into words through acting.

U-Kiss will be in Singapore for The Kings of Freedom Concert on the 19th of November! Bringing their new mini album, ‘Break Time’ with them, this is U-Kiss’ third promotional visit to Singapore (they were here previously in June 2010 for a media conference, meet-and-greet session and a showcase).

The Kings of Freedom Concert is a community outreach concert organized by The Youth Empire for Singapore The Aljunied GRC to celebrate community togetherness. It is a community-outreach concert where they celebrate youth and embrace the performing arts, and they are bringing U-Kiss in as they are in support of the cause!

The Kings of Freedom Concert is to commemorate the 1st Anniversary of The Kings of Freedom Project, about social tolerance, freedom, friendship, love and respect, brought together by Minister George Yeo (Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs).

U-Kiss will be their Korean act as they would also like to expose the youths and families to the Korean popular culture, and at the same time give the local acts a chance to perform to a greater variety of audiences.

Netizens make KBS apologize for misspelling Jiyeon's name

In the credits of KBS 2TV's 'Jungle Fish 2', there seems to be a misunderstanding.

It seems the keen-eyed netizens are at it again. While the credits are being shown, a misspelling of Jiyeon (지연) brought up a confusion. In the credits, the singer for the OST was typed as "티연 (티아라)" which is TIYEON (T-ARA). The uncalled for typo brought up another reason for netizens to complain. A spokesperson already said "We are sorry for this mistake, and will be more careful the next time to avoid this happening."

The theme and setting of  'Jungle Fish 2' has also recieved much bad press as good. The show doesnt seem to represent the korean education setting well, and some think it is too obscene for young people to watch.

On the coming 17th, CH E&M Center is opening a "2010 Olive-OnStyle Icon Award with CJ ONE". It is going to award the best style icons.

There are 60 candidates in society, culture and art. People chosen are those who start new trends, from actors, talents, artists, models, gagmen, and designers. Some examples are Jang Dong-gun, Daniel Choi, BoA, Kara, Hwang Jung-eum, 2NE1, Park Yoo-chun, Big Bang, and Moon Geun-Young.

Shin Yoojin, on CJ Media's style channel said "We hope people take a lot of interest in who is the best style icon".

Soon after Cube Entertainment released B2ST’s highly-anticipated 4th album,“Lights Go On Again,” it received the honor of placing first on various Korean music charts. Yet that wasn’t all.

Amazingly, the group managed to sweep up all top 5 spots on the charts – their main title track, “Beautiful”, came in at 1st place, while the album’s remaining four tracks nabbed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. Furthermore, according to album sales site Hanteo, the group’s album sales also showed great success, as their sales figures ranked first.

Even during its composition stage, “Beautiful” was to be a song that could only fit B2st. Clearly that appears to be the case, as it’s helping the boys nab distinctions and honors left and right.

Oh Wonbin Talks About His Decision To Leave F.T Island

Two years after his departure from rock group FT Island, former member Oh Won Bin finally revealed his feelings about the group through a recent interview with Osen.

He said, “My departure from FT Island was something I’ve been thinking about for a very long time. Ever since our second album, I’ve always thought about trying different genres of music and began discussing it with the other members. They supported me a lot even after my exit. It was definitely not a hasty decision, and it was thoroughly discussed with both the members and the agency.”

Regarding the various rumors that began circulating after his leave, he explained, “I thought that no matter what I said, fans wouldn’t have believed me anyway. It was better to just stay quiet. Now that time has passed, however, I think I can explain myself a bit. I want to emphasize that it’s a decision I made after a lot of thought. I’m still close with my former bandmates.”

He continued, “I thought that if I left, everything would change. I thought I’d lose everything I worked for in my career as a musician. Even so, I still wanted to try something new. For the past two years, I’ve studied hard in college and practiced a lot in singing and rapping. With this comeback, my goal is to show everyone my potential as a singer.”

Oh Won Bin is scheduled to release his single, “I Love You and I Love You“, on November 11th and will be making his comeback on KBS’s “Music Bank.”

Lee Yoon-ji joins idol-laden cast of Dream High

Underrated (imo) actress Lee Yoon-ji (Dandelion Family) has come onboard the Korean Fame-like drama series Dream High, in which lots of idol stars will act as aspiring versions of themselves, playing high school students in an arts school. Lee will play a teacher at the school who is characterized by “elegant, perfect style and strong charisma,” who cultivates young stars of tomorrow.

And can I just say: Finally! A real actor! I was worried for Kim Soo-hyun (Giant) for a bit there, because while he is a fabulous young actor and can certainly carry the lead role, he’s surrounded by newbies. He’s held his own (and then some) opposite some of television’s top veterans, so I just hope his talents aren’t wasted.

“Inkigayo” pressures artists to bail out of the ‘2010 MAMA’

The ‘2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards‘ (MAMA) is only a few weeks away, but the Korean music industry is heaving a heavy sigh due to the overlapping schedules between the 2010 MAMA and weekend music programs on KBS, MBC, and SBS.

Although Mnet had previously stated that changing the event date is out of their control, it appears that SBS’s “Inkigayo” cannot accept their statement. Furious over the timing which happens on Sunday, November 28th, representatives from the popular music program apparently gathered various agency representatives and delivered a subtle ultimatum.

One anonymous industry representative stated, “‘Inkigayo’ called all of the agency representatives together. Although they never told us to not attend the MAMA, they simply stated, ‘Try and see if you can go,’ which is just as, if not more, scary. After the meeting, all of the agency representatives called up Mnet and announced that their artists would not be attending.”

While SM Entertainment will be continuing their Mnet boycott this year, others, such as JYP Entertainment, have decided to still send their artists to the awards event.

South Korea's 'volcanic' tourism heats up

Huge billboards stating, "We love having you here" greet you every few miles, so it's impossible not to feel welcomed on the island of Jeju.

A special autonomous region of South Korea, Jeju is well known among Koreans and is considered one of the country's top vacation and honeymoon destinations. Now the tourist gurus on the island want the rest of the world to know about it.

Jeju already has recognition from UNESCO. Nine sites on the island were designated geological attractions or "geoparks" last month. Three years ago, UNESCO named three heritage sites here.

CNN visited Sunrise Peak, holder of both titles, and the most popular tourist attraction in Jeju, created some two million years ago by volcanic eruptions.

It is a grueling hour-long trek to the top, not grueling because of physical exertion, but because of the thousands of school children and tourists squeezing along the same narrow path.

SHINee's Minho to star in drama "Pianist"

SHINee's Minho has been confirmed to star in KBS Drama Special, titled "Pianist". The drama will air on November 20th (unconfirmed) at 11:15PM. The drama will be only one episode, as it is a drama 'special' for KBS.

The drama is about an elementary school music teacher, who was once a promising piano student. She was forced to give up her dream due to domestic circumstances. She meets "Oh Jero", a boy without any dreams, who has never had a chance to learn how to play the piano. He has had an unhappy childhood and works as a tuner in a piano factory. The drama tells the story of two people getting healed by sharing each others lost dreams, hopes, sufferings and their common love, the piano.

It is assumed that Minho will play the part of the boy, "Oh Jero".

Brian Joo teams up with Jade Valerie for a duet, plans to head overseas

According to Jellyfish Entertainment, Brian Joo is planning to step into the overseas music market through the release of a duet track with Europop vocalist, Jade Valerie (of Sweetbox fame). The duet track is entitled, “Don’t tell me I’m wrong.”

Jellyfish Entertainment revealed, “While Jade and her producer GEO were creating songs for her comeback next year, they heard Brian’s tracks and asked for his participation in a duet.”

Brian and Jade’s duet track “Don’t tell me I’m wrong” will release in Korea on November 11th. It will be listed as one of the tracks under Jade’s upcoming album, which will be available for purchase internationally.

Meanwhile, Brian plans to release his new album during the middle of January.
