About KMA, from an article last year: "The nominees are selected in a collective evaluative process by a committee of 52 judges with a variety of perspectives." The representative added, "No other aspect besides music is considered when selecting nominees. Musical value and the final product are the main concerns during evaluation."

The Korean Music Awards seeks to treat music as more than a mere form of amusement but as an art, and musicians as artists instead of entertainers. With such a basis, more attention is paid to albums and songs rather than singers, and musical achievement represents the standard rather than sales figures. The ultimate goal of the Korean Music Awards is to move beyond the mainstream vs. independent debate and to create a foundation upon which Korean music can progress in a balanced, positive manner.

100211 U-Kiss' ideal types revealed?

U-Kiss' Dongho's confession, "Shin Minah nuna! Let's eat together~"

Coming back with 'Bingeul Bingeul', U-Kiss (Alexander, Kibum, Dongho, Soohyun, Eli, Kevin and Kiseop) reveal their ideal types on 'U-Kiss' Vampire'.

U-Kiss' maknae Dongho, who has been getting a lot of love from nunas, chose between the top stars of Korea easily, showing his honest character, which is distinctive of a Type B.

But one choice that Dongho had a hard time making was 'SNSD VS KARA'. Seeing Dongho's worried expression when picking between these two groups, and even asking if he could pass, the members burst out laughing.



Although Dongho had stated Shin Se Kyung as his ideal type, he quickly picked Huang Jung Eum over her in less than 10 minutes, showing off the badboy (?) side of a Type B.

When he had to pick between Park Boyoung and IU, whom he often states as his ideal type, Dongho could not hide his difficulty as he made an unexpected decision.

So between IU and Park Bo Young, who was the one Dongho picked as his ideal type eventually? Dongho, who likes older girls, picked Shin Minah as his final ideal girl.

Dongho, who picked Shin Minah because of her remarkable fashion sense, left her a video message saying "let's go for a meal together". Together with Dongho, Kiseop and Alexander's ideal types will be revealed via rounds of "Ideal type World Cup" on 'U-Kiss' Vampire'.

Although Kiseop had a range of choices such as Han Hyo Ju, Lee Min Jung, Sandara Park, the devoted Type A eventually still picked Goo Hye Sun as his ideal type. Big fan (?) of Lee Hyori, Alexander picked Sandara Park over Lee Hyori, getting rebuked by his members.

These boys made their debut into the music industry in August, 2008. But they were made familiar to the public only last year in November through their song, 'Man Man Ha Ni'. Debuting at the same time as them was popular group 2PM. How did these members feel watching from the side?

1 year and 5 months after their debut, U-Kiss has come back with their 1st full album 'U-Kiss Only One' and they can brush off the sorrow they could not speak of during that period.

There is a huge difference between U-Kiss' popularity before and after the release of 'Man Man Ha Ni'. It's not an exaggeration to compare it to heaven and hell.
　
U-Kiss has more than one or two bad memories of their days when they were unknown. There were even cases where their name 'U-Kiss' was written wrongly on the door of the waiting room. Though we welcomed 2010 on January 1st, you can’t forget Lunar New Year's!

The nine-member rookie boy group ZE:A sent their Lunar New Year greetings clad in traditional hanbok attire.

ZE:A has been working hard since their January debut with Mazeltov. The members have a busy year ahead of them and it’s nice to see that they’re all still full of smiles.

ZE:A said, "Thank you so much for [giving us] love and attention since our debut. We hope everyone will have a good fortune in this New Year. We will work harder to progress as a group."

ZE:A is constantly busy these days and rarely receive breaks. They’ve been filming multiple variety shows such as Maknae Rebellion, Big Match (where KwangHee&JoKwon dance Abracadabra) and more. But on the actual day of the Lunar New Year, the 14th, they will spend some time with their family.

Netizens launch a campaign to urge CN BLUE's 'I'm a Loner' composer to leave music industry

Plagiarism has again emerged as a hot issue in the Korean music scene after star composer Kim Do-hun was accused of plagiarizing a song by an indie band.

Netizens accuse Kim of having copied parts of the song “Blue Bird” by indie band Ynot for his song “I’m a loner,” which he composed for the indie band CNBLUE. To support their claims, they have uploaded text and clips of the two songs to the Web.

Meanwhile, a group of netizens has started gathering signatures for an online petition urging Kim to leave the music industry because, they say, he has built his career with plagiarized songs.

“Kim wrote a song titled ‘Lie’ for Gavy NJ and it was pretty much the same as Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Brave,’” a person with the screen name Rasmus wrote on the site Agora, a major online debate forum operated by local search engine Daum. “There were also similarities between Kim’s ‘8282’ [sung by Davichi] and Mika’s ‘Happy Ending.’ The list goes on.”

Rasmus launched the signature campaign against Kim. As of yesterday morning, 3,181 netizens had signed on.

New Hip Hop Trio “One Way”

Some new Hip Hop Sound for Korea as One Way makes their entrance into the K-pop scene. One Way consists of three members: Michael, Jun Young, and Peter. Earlier today, they released their new single album in Korea with 3 tracks: U-Drag, One Way, and Casino which features Maria Kim.

U-Drag sounds pretty awesome, it’s more R&B than Hip Hop. One Way is more of your typical sound that you hear today. Pop hip hop sound with some autotune. Anyways, their songs are pretty catchy and they seem promising. Thanks to YGCasey for the tip and check out some of their tracks below.

f(x)’s Sulli attends a special graduation

As reported a week ago, f(x)’s Sulli could not attend her middle school graduation on February 5th due to her busy schedules with her group in China.

On a recent episode of SBS One Night’s TV Entertainment, Sulli revealed her disappointment of missing out her graduation, saying, “I was disappointed that I could not attend the graduation for a school I went for 3 years because of my oversea schedules.”

Kim Bum Questioned over a Legal Dispute

Kim Bum, one of the stars of the KBS smash hit drama "Boys Over Flowers," was questioned by prosecutors for about an hour last week over a legal dispute between his former and current agencies, according to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Thursday.

The summons came after the president of Eyagi Entertainment, identified only as Hwang, Kim's former agent, filed a damage suit against Kim and his agency KingKong Entertainment for an alleged breach of contract.

Eyagi Entertainment said it signed a contract with Kim in October 2008 to represent him for the next six years and paid him 150 million won, but that the actor cancelled the contract unilaterally around March 2009 when"Boys Over Flowers" was in its final episodes.

CNBLUE's Composer Once Again Denies Plagiarism

Kim Do-hoon, the songwriter of the hit song "I’m a Loner" by four-member group CNBLUE, says the allegations that he copied indie band Ynot’s song are groundless.

The songwriter of the hit song by four-member group CNBLUE, has denied the allegations that he copied the indie band Ynot's song"Blue Bird."

"I have not deceived my conscience," said composer Kim Do-hoon in an interview with the Hankook Ilbo. "I have never heard of the song 'Blue Bird.' I did not plagiarize it."

He said Ynot sent him a letter to claim that CNBLUE's "I'm a Loner" is similar to its song in melody and rhythm ― a usual step needed before filing a suit.

Yet, Kim denied the accusations, saying the two songs are different in rhythm and melodies as a whole.

"Those who know music will be able to easily figure out that the two songs are in the same genre but are completely different," he said.

He said the plagiarism accusation is not based on logical evidence.

A 14-year-old kid who relied on his perfect dancing skills and beautiful vocals to become a successful singer

There was only one belief during his youth; though he isn’t superior with his dancing, and he isn’t skilled in singing, he knows he will succeed with his passion and determination. In the following ten years, he strives harder with this passion to dance beautifully, and to sing pleasantly. As time goes by, his features get more defined, his looks more mature. Though it's impossible to regain the look of innocence from ten years back, the beauty in his eyes and the passion within his heart still remain unchanged.

He was able to go through hardships with the help of others around him, therefore, he decided to work even harder to become a shining star, and to search for something that he lacked when he was younger. He wanted to make more people support and like him. The greatest change in him is the expectation he has for himself; it has grown even larger because of the experiences he had in this society. A good point of this youth, who has grown under a tough journey, is his humility and sincere response to any questions being asked, together with the passion that he has been holding on to all these years.

Narsha and Sangchu are dating?

On the latest episode of KBS Star Golden Bell which will broadcast on the 13th, singer Kim Jong Kook revealed his suspicion about the relationship between Brown Eyed Girls‘ Narsha and Mighty Mouth’s Sangchu.

During the show, MC Jun Hyun Moo asked Kim Jong Kook, “What is this pink aura coming off of Narsha and Sangchu?” Kim Jong Kook replied, “I am curious as well to know what kind of relationship the two have. Narsha and Sangchu meet up with each other often. At one time, I was waiting for Sangchu at the parking lot prior to a recording, but Sangchu went off and met with Narsha and brought her with him.”

Sangchu, who was also on the show, commented, “Narsha and I are same-aged friends. We keep in touch with each other and we also eat together.” He also added, “We also went shopping and watched a play before with our faces covered with a mask,” which made the cast more suspicious.

Shopping and watching a play together? Sounds like a date, doesn’t it?

Kim Jae-wook joins cast of Bad Guy

Joining Kim Nam-gil and Han Ga-in in their upcoming drama Bad Guy (or Bad Man) is Coffee Prince’s Kim Jae-wook, who will complete the love triangle as the successor to a large corporation. His character possesses everything a person could want but feels a loneliness and emptiness inside. After losing the woman he loves, he lives a miserable life until he meets the spunky woman played by Han Ga-in, who slowly starts to open his heart. He comes up against Kim Nam-gil’s character, who has fought viciously to attain his current standing, and a rivalry unfolds between the two.

Kim Jae-wook said of this project, “In the past I have given off an androgynous image in drama and film roles, but in Bad Guy, the Tae-sung character shows a strong charisma. I’m looking forward to working in a drama after a year-long break, and more than anything I’m excited to be working with a good director and senior actors.”

The drama is slated for 20 episodes and centers around the themes of “desire, fatal love, and one man’s unstoppable ambition.” Oh Yeon-soo has also been cast, and the drama will air in May.
