Baby Boom of Mixed Children Tests South Korea

YEONGGWANG, South Korea — Just a few years ago, the number of pregnant women in this city had declined so much that the sparsely equipped two-room maternity ward at Yeonggwang General Hospital was close to shutting down. But these days it is busy again.

More surprising than the fact of this miniature baby-boom is its composition: children of mixed ethnic backgrounds, the offspring of Korean fathers and mothers from China, Vietnam and other parts of Asia. These families have suddenly become so numerous that the nurses say they have had to learn how to say “push” in four languages.

It is a similar story across South Korea, where hundreds of thousands of foreign women have been immigrating in recent years, often in marriages arranged by brokers. They have been making up for a shortage of eligible Korean women, particularly in underdeveloped rural areas like this one in the nation’s southwest.

Now, these unions are bearing large numbers of mixed children, confronting this proudly homogeneous nation with the difficult challenge of smoothly absorbing them.

"Go Dream Team" to go to Canada for 4 days for a Winter Olympics special

The "Dream Team 2" cast will go to Vancouver, Canada for a Winter Olympics special.

KBS 2's "Go Dream Team Season 2- Green Team is Coming" (hereon called Dream Team 2) will go to Canada on December 4 for a TV special on the February 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

"Dream Team 2"'s PD Jun Jin Hak said on the phone with Newsen, "We plan to go for about 7 nights, 9 days to Canada's Vancouver and Whistler. Including the MC there will be 8 people going."

He also revealed, "We will visit the Olympic stadium in Vancouver as well as a ski resort in Whistler. The Dream Team 2 cast will have competitions also."

The New Year's special episode filmed in Canada will feature MC Lee Chang Myung as well as permanent cast members Lee Sang In, Danny Ahn, SHINee's Minho, Cool's Kim Sung Soo, actors Song Joong Ki, Go Joo Won, and singer Run. Another permanent member, Super Junior's Eunhyuk, will not be able to attend because of conflicts with radio broadcasts.

Jun PD said "The episode filmed in Canada will air in January 2010 in 4 episodes."

SNSD Awarded 'Teen Musical Artist' Award

SNSD was awarded a 'Korean Cultural Entertainment' award.

They were awarded at the '17th Korean Cultural Entertainment Awards' on the 30th of November from 5pm at Seoul, YeoUiDo 63 City Hall. The 'Adult Music' award went to Jang YoonJung. The ceremony was hosted by singer and composer Jung WonSoo, singer Ha MyungJi, 2007 Miss Korea Park GaWon, MC Shin YoungIl and celebrity Han DaMin.

SNSD won the 'Teen Musical Artist' award, along with FT Island, NoRaJo and performed a celebratory concert. Song SeungHun was awarded the 'Talent' award. Kim NamJoo was awarded
the high distinction 'Talent' award.

Yoon SangHyun and Yoon SungEun received excellence awards, Lim JooHwan and Cho SeungJoon won the 'Male Newcomer' awards, Yoo HaNa and Cho JungSun won the 'Female Newcomer' award. JinHyuk, director of SBS 'Glory of the Family' won the 'Drama Director' award.

In the film category Sul KyungGoo was bathed in glory as he won the excellence award.
SooAe was the runner up, JinGoo and Choo JaHyun won the 'Male Female Couple' award, Kim NamGil and Park BoYoung won the 'Newcomer' awards. Kim YongHwa director of 'National athlete' won the 'Director' award.

Kim ByungMan and Jung JooRi won the highest 'Comedian' award, Heo KyungHwan and Han MinKwan won excellence awards. Oh NaMee won the 'Newcomer' award.

3 employees under YG Ent suspected of embezzling 2.5 billion KRW of concert fees

It was revealed on 1st December that 3 employees from YG Entertainment, which singers Big Bang and 2NE1 are under, were found to have embezzled 2.5billion KRW of the agency singers’ concert fees.

According to Criminal Division 4 of Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Officesaid that the 3 employees have been charged on non-restraint. The 3 employees were working as managers in YG and have been accused of stealing about 2.5billion KRW worth of the singers’ concert fees for their own pleasure, living expenses and for investment.

In addition, 3 club representatives – Im (37), Ji (40), Kim (39) – with relations with YG Entertainment’s owner Yang HyunSeok have been charged with tax violations. This 3 have in the period of the past 4 years deliberately avoid tax payments of up to 1 billion KRW after using the club’s registration fees etc for their own use.

This was after months of secret investigation by the IRS on YG.

MBLAQ wants to call Rain 'father'

MBLAQ reveals an episode where they wanted to call singer Rain by ‘father’.
MBLAQ said during an interview with Monkey3, “We feel really uneasy with out Rain hyung. His existence is like that of a father. And there was once we call him that and he said ‘How much is our age difference that you are already calling me that?’. Rain hyung don’t like to be called a father. With that we just called him by hyung.”
MBLAQ also revealed, “All of our members listen to f(x)’s ‘Chu’ everyday. Even though the song is good, we don’t have other designs.”

Park Myung-soo Goes to the ER

Park Myung-soo was rushed to the emergency room. While filming “Infinity Challenge” (MBC), the comedian complained of chest pains.

At the emergency room, Park Myung-soo received a chest X-ray and a full medical examination. If his health condition checks out, he will resume filming of “Infinity Challenge.”

Last July, the comedian had a hepatitis A infection and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Taking on a heavy schedule, Park Myung-soo became very fatigued. As a result, for some time, his body seemed very weak.

Hopefully, everything will be fine for Park Myung-soo, and he can get back to bringing laughter to his fans. If anything, he needs a good break.

SHINee's Taemin recovered from swine flu, will return to performing on the 3rd

SHINee's Taemin has recovered from swine flu.

SM Entertainment's publicist told Newsen through a phone interview on December 2nd, "On the 1st, a hospital exam has deemed Taemin cured from swine flu." He will start promotions again on the 3rd.

After having a slight fever on the 25th, he was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with swine flu on the 26th.

SHINee's Jonghyun, Onew, and Taemin had all had swine flu which saddened fans. A publicist said "It's regretful that all the members can't perform "Ring Ding Dong" together when it's topping the charts. But the members' health is more important."

Also he said, "After Jonghyun and Onew got swine flu, we disinfected the dorm. We will pay more attention to individuals' hygiene."

In the past, we've seen K-pop artists on various charts across the world. Mainly in Asian countries such as Japan, Philippines, etc. and even here in America, but here's a new one for you. Apparently, Big Bang Taeyang's Wedding Dress is Number 3 in the Netherlands on the Dutch Fun X Radio X-Tips Chart.
This is pretty cool news, combined with the Hungary news, it seems there's K-pop fans everywhere. I suppose this is a good example on the power of the internet, with it's ability to give people halfway across the globe access to music where in the past they would've never had the chance to listen to.

My name is Jung Yong Hwa 鄭容和, meaning “harmonious face”. It was given to me with philosophical ideas in mind. Born on June 22, 1989 in Seoul, Yeoksamdong. I moved to Pusan when I was 2 and lived there through high school, so I think of myself as a Pusan person. Along with my parents, I have a brother 4 years older than me. We all are a cautious A blood type. Like Kang Shin Woo, I tried to correct my sa-too-ri [accent] after moving up to Seoul. When my Pusan friends watched the first episode, they called and said, “Oh. You can use normal language.” Haha.
