Date: 2017-10-16 04:46 am (UTC)Oh God, I really hate them trying to be like Hulu. No one wants YouTube TV. Honestly, with how spread out the shows are online, people are having to pay for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon (although that has other benefits as well), so idk why they'd want to pay for Red, unless they want to cancel their music prescription and use Google's music service. It's all too much. I'm glad I can sponge off my friend's and family's accounts b/c there's no way I'd pay for any of that. If I had the money, I'd just get cable. I don't watch tv that much, and when I do feel like watching, I like being able to just flip channels. Soon all this cutting the cord to save money will end up being the same price (or more if you still have cable and all these subscriptions).

Date: 2017-10-16 02:12 pm (UTC)I hate that too. Anymore I have to wait about it until there are several shows worth watching and then pay for a month to catch up. My weakness is the original series. Like all the Marvel stuff on Netflix, Handmaid's Tale on Hulu, The Zelda Fitzgerald one on Amazon, etc. tbh Cable will probably be cheaper eventually or depending upon what packages you get w/ these services (ie upgraded HD netflix, commercial less Hulu, etc). The only thing you'll miss out on is the original series. tbh Netflix seems like it's dying anyways from stupid choices. That's my biggest fear is that people will run to Red w/ Netflix failing. That and now Red is going to have special concerts and they are trying to line up series.

Date: 2017-10-16 07:58 pm (UTC)Yeah, Netflix and sites are convenient when they have something I want to watch, but oftentimes I can find it elsewhere online or can rent it from my library. It's just if it's there, it's more convenient. I feel like initially original content is a boon for these sites, but they eventually manage to screw it up (like Netflix's quality going down or Amazon not renewing shows). I haven't bothered with Hulu in years since my adblocker doesn't work on their site, and I'm not willing to sit through that many ads for online content. I just choose to miss out.
I don't think people will run to Red b/c it lacks name recognition among older people and younger people are more likely to not have the money, to already use adblocker, and to be a part of a fandom that's willing to download and circulate the content behind the paywall.

Date: 2017-10-17 02:59 pm (UTC)My library takes forever to get anything to you, and most of the time it's so wrecked it won't play. Especially if it's an older release. We also have one TV in the house so I watch everything online. That why some of these sites are convenient for me. But yeah, paying for each site all the time. Not going to happen. In a perfect world I'd love all to fail and merge as one. But the price would end up astronomical then.
idk I see so many parents bankroll kids anymore. I mean parents are buying kids $200 dollar and up for tickets to see BTS & Exo. And that's crazy to me. But I come from a different generation. I think the thing with Youtube Red is they are trying to get familiar producers and writers (they are currently trying to get the people who wrote netflix the crown) and it seems like they are producing shows similar to Netflix (some new show that's like black mirror). I think their hope is that if they create content like the other streaming services they can get people to jump. Or people will jump netflix as they are practically losing all their unorignal content to Hulu. If red ends up getting a marvel or dc series (now that hulu has one too) they'll def end up getting a following and being a contender.
