2PM Sends Their Brother Into the Army (Pics & SNS)

Earlier today, Taecyeon privately enlisted into the Korean Army. There was no press present, so there were no photos from the media. Taecyeon was joined by his family, fellow 2PM members, and several the staff members who are close to him, including some of 2PM's former managers. Several kind souls who were also in attendance, sending off their own sons and brothers, shared a few photos and videos on Twitter.

I'm dying at that first video. I'm so proud of him. And I'm glad that the other boys were there to see him off. Apparently, the division he's training with (White Horse Division) is close to the DMZ. We're not sure which unit he'll end up in, but either way, I hope he stays safe and has very little to no issue. He looks happy and proud, and that makes me feel better. And you guys... he looks SO good! I'll probably start actually missing him in a few weeks.

He legally changed his name when his father died (per his father's wishes) almost 5 years ago, so please don't call him Junsu. It makes you look like an asshole

It's not too uncommon to change your name in Korea, and I believe the name has some significance to his family, although he hasn't disclosed what that is.

This is what we know: His father wanted him to change his name to Minjun before he died, but Minjun didn't want to. A month or so after his father died, his mother was due for a major surgery, as she has (had?) thyroid cancer. Before her surgery, because of the risks involved, she asked him again if he couldn't change his name like his father wanted. That's what made him go through with it, in the end.

He talked about it in this interview from 2016 (http://egle0702.tumblr.com/post/138731582830/trans-talk-with-a-drink-jun-k-interview). It's really fantastic if you'd like to know more about who he is as a person.

I started to explain why the name change was necessary and how painful it was for him but being real, "I was a fan a long time ago so it's okay for me to call him something he no longer wants to be called" is an iffy justification whether or not he had those kind of circumstances lmao :/ You probably didn't mean any harm and I'm sure it doesn't seem that serious but it's tiring for people who are still fans. It's been years now and he still has to explain because of all the people who misunderstand and twist his reasoning behind it so if you know he's changed his name, then just respect his choice by using it.

He and Minjun were originally supposed to enlist on the same day, but due to the accident, Minjun's enlistment was delayed. Minjun has a metal rod in his arm, so that has to be taken out and healed first before he can enlist.

im not even surprised of how naturally normal he looks here, coming from idol world were years of caked make up & weird hairstyles or colors kinda makes you forget how their real faces should look ..... natural style really fits him 👍

Thanks for all the 2pm/Taec posts op! Since hearing he was enlisting all my old 2pm fan feelings came back so it's been a nostalgic and bittersweet few days. Hoping he has a good service as well!

theres a lot of press around him "giving up American citizenship in order to enlist" (untrue, but journalist haven't been able to get this right for years and jype isn't gonna stop the good press lol) and about him needing to get surgery to make him eligible for active duty as opposed to going to public service (this is true!!)

It's not like taecs image was ever completely bad - but given that a lot of other celebrities have been in the news lately for opting to go for public service and also their scandals while serving, any celebrity who decides to enlist in active service is going to get a huge thumbs up from the public (which in a way is kinda messed up, but I can understand considering how patriotic a lot of South Koreans are - especially given the rising tensions btwn them and the north). I usually hate netizenbuzz but their latest article about taecyeons service is a pretty good indication of what people think imo. Another good example is lee joon who's also planning to go into active duty, I remember seeing translations of comments basically praising him and calling him a real man.

Nooo, i just made it out of their 9th anniversary post, today it's been such a sad 2pm day, damn.

However, dramatic as i may be, Taec does look great and i do think he's actually gonna do great in his service. He has that dependable, likeable, "normal" guy image!

Glad he enlisted the way he wanted as well, very low key with just family and friends.

I don't follow 2PM that closely, but I've been around since almost their debut (gosh, I'm old, lol) and he is one of my faves 2PM members (plus I actually enjoy his dramas), so I'm going to miss him.

At least he looks really happy, so I'm glad for him.
