Date: 2017-09-03 02:37 am (UTC)Episode 2 was weirder and often straight up uncomfortable, but it reminds me a lot of the first couple episodes of season 1. It's that fish out of water/rookie vs. the team element, and the fact that Eun is a lot more abrasive than Eunjae ever was. But I like her and I'm looking forward to her gelling with the Belle Epoque ladies even if she starts out with a ~I'm not here to make friends conviction.
Prior to watching I'd heard some stuff and read an article about how there were homophobic jokes in ep 2, so I was wary of them going into it but everything played out better than I expected. Specifically, two characters expressed homophobic statements, but two other characters immediately pointed out their prejudice/discrimination and tried to educate them. Toward the end of the episode, Eunjae (who was one of the ones saying ignorant things)—after literally running away from Eun—narrates that she's a coward; that she's not a good of a person as she thinks she is, and that scares her.
Showing homophobia on screen doesn't mean the drama agrees with it; and I think it's pretty clear what the drama is criticizing here. Overall, it reminds me of the girls' reactions when they found out Yina was a prostitute in s1 and were immediately afraid of getting diseases or w/e from her. imo it's fine and even important to address those things, and these moments are part of what I like about AOY's slice-of-life realness.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I completely rme at the fat jokes/Beyonce stuff, which were unnecessary. Dear writers: please stop.

Date: 2017-09-03 03:52 am (UTC)I'm not gone miss Yi-na, I don't like (Korean) Snake. Besides, she ended up having the most complete storyline of the girls so it was time for her to go, especially since she left on good terms.
I honestly wish they waited until Hye soo was available cuz the new girl's face is so distracting. No effort was made to find someone who looked anything like Hye Soo. Han Yeri is looking good tho, yesss mom! 😫😫
I like Eun a lot tho, I can't wait to see what her storyline is. I hope they just let her be her tomboy self. I wonder why she's documenting the girls tho?

Date: 2017-09-03 06:20 am (UTC)Also did Yina leave because of the whole T-ara thing? Or were there other reasons?

Date: 2017-09-03 07:12 am (UTC)They announced in March that Yi Na wouldn't be in this season because "her story was almost completely told" (which I agree with) but it was announced right after the T-ara stuff so who knows for sure.

Date: 2017-09-03 04:20 am (UTC)i was so glad to see kang! i thought they'd just be like "oh she moved out while you were gone. it's too bad!" or something. i just wish her relationship with that ajusshi was mentioned. like does she still talk to him and stuff?? i was curious.
the new eunjae is distracting still. she doesn't pull off that doe-eyed innocence as well as the previous actress. i'm sure i'll get used to her, but for right now i'm not really feeling it.
my favorite thing about the first season was how slice of life-y and not very ott the whole thing was (except for the kidnapping plot and i guess that one scene of kang's in the field). so starting off with a hostage plot line was kinda much for me. i literally jumped when it panned down to those people omg. i thought the guy was going to peep on them through the windows, so i was so shocked when it showed that couple.
i'll watch the 2nd ep tomorrow.

Date: 2017-09-03 06:17 am (UTC)I really dislike the new Eunjae as well, her face kinda creeps me out for some reason. I laughed when Jiwon told new Eunjae "you look unfamilar somehow" in the first episode though lmfao
So far I don't hate the second season though, despite all the changes. I'm definitely gonna keep on watching!

Date: 2017-09-03 06:35 am (UTC)but I like Eun. She seems like a really interesting addition to shake everything up. I totally get her too. Breaking into a group of already established friends/roommates is hard.

Date: 2017-09-03 07:34 am (UTC)Another surprise was Kang being in the very first episode of the season. For whatever reason I just expecting the season to start with her already gone and the show up later on.
I couldn't stop thinking about Hwa Young's character from Father Is Strange while watching though. Idk if it was just mind not being able to separate the two, Yina's actions in the episode being something I could also see Ra Young doing, or if it was Hwa Young's acting.
I'm having a bit of rough time adjusting to the new actress playing Eunjae but things did get a smegde better in episode two.
Episode two was real rough to watch but the resolution was good. Not only did the homophobia get called out but it really highlighted Eun's own bravery in just being herself despite the negative reactions she gets.
Oh and I also really appreciated the show saying that Ji Won sexually harasses people. That part of her character repulsed me last season and I hope to gets dealt with this season.
As far as what Eun is doing the house I figured she was researching for a book she's writing or something lol. That was before the "I'll kill you" bit was revealed though and with this show it could be nothing major or it could be a very real threat.

Date: 2017-09-03 07:40 am (UTC)I liked the ep 1 wrap up of Yi Na and the rest of the girls. I was sad we weren't getting the core 5 back for season 2, but really it makes sense that a year later they all wouldn't be there. I felt like Yi Na had the most resolution to her storyline last season and was okay with her leaving, but I'm glad we got a last episode with her. I was laughing so hard when they were all sobbing and waving and Yi Na was trying to leave and her car wouldn't turn on and it just kept dragging on. I'm mostly just glad that it felt familiar and natural and not like they were trying too hard with the script or the acting.
It felt weird to go into ep 2 with the new roommate storyline again, especially because in season 1, we had that storyline through Eun Jae's eyes of meeting everyone and trying to adapt and this time it was an intruder coming into the group that we know and love and not trying to adapt at all. I'm wondering if this letter/what Eun is trying to figure out has anything to do with old ballerina roommate? That would be interesting and tie up something I know lots of people were annoyed about last season. Despite my distrust of Eun, I did really like how she noticed Eun Jae was sick and got her medicine and wanted to make sure she was okay.
Is Jin Myung dating Hot Chef???? I'm going to believe so until we're told otherwise. I'm so glad she got a job, Hoping for only good things to happen to her this season, she went through too much last season. I appreciate how they aren't glossing over the trauma Ye Eun went through and have her talking to a therapist. I hope she's able to feel more comfortable outside her home and is able to manage school okay. I'm most excited for the potential for a good Ji Won story this year. That shot of her lying in the pool with her ridiculous hat and sunglasses made me realize how much I had missed these characters.

Date: 2017-09-03 08:21 pm (UTC)I'm also glad that they show the toll of Ye Eun's kidnapping. She has a nice group of supportive friends who are willing to accompany her places.

Date: 2017-09-03 08:23 pm (UTC)Does Jo Eun have a connection to the letter? Or did she find it accidentally and is hiding it from the other girls? Or did the show leave that unclear?

Date: 2017-09-04 06:06 pm (UTC)i still feel like i would prefer Yeeun to leave .... its been only two episodes and she already annoys me lmao
new Eun Jae doesnt bother me but i cant get used to her either lol i will need to learn read her facial expressions like with previous actress, maybe its a character thing to have flat face moments lol
so madame is visiting Chile?? weather isnt the best now but i bet she visits in spring :)
