I looooved episode 1. Classic AOY dynamics and the way the girls' personalities/relationships are expressed through microagressions but the hijinks were even funnier than anything I remember from season 1. Watching Yina drive was soooo stressful, but I almost cried laughing every time they're in the car; the coffee gag was great; and it was a decent send-off for Kang Unnie. I'll miss her, but I think it'll be good to shake things up and get to know some new characters too.
Episode 2 was weirder and often straight up uncomfortable, but it reminds me a lot of the first couple episodes of season 1. It's that fish out of water/rookie vs. the team element, and the fact that Eun is a lot more abrasive than Eunjae ever was. But I like her and I'm looking forward to her gelling with the Belle Epoque ladies even if she starts out with a ~I'm not here to make friends conviction.
Prior to watching I'd heard some stuff and read an article about how there were homophobic jokes in ep 2, so I was wary of them going into it but everything played out better than I expected. Specifically, two characters expressed homophobic statements, but two other characters immediately pointed out their prejudice/discrimination and tried to educate them. Toward the end of the episode, Eunjae (who was one of the ones saying ignorant things)—after literally running away from Eun—narrates that she's a coward; that she's not a good of a person as she thinks she is, and that scares her.
Showing homophobia on screen doesn't mean the drama agrees with it; and I think it's pretty clear what the drama is criticizing here. Overall, it reminds me of the girls' reactions when they found out Yina was a prostitute in s1 and were immediately afraid of getting diseases or w/e from her. imo it's fine and even important to address those things, and these moments are part of what I like about AOY's slice-of-life realness.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I completely rme at the fat jokes/Beyonce stuff, which were unnecessary. Dear writers: please stop.
