First mv of theirs I ever saw. First anything of them I ever saw other than random pics here and there that I pretty much would ignore bc I kept confusing them with BAP & Block B. It instantly impressed me and I went back and binged all the mvs that came before it. The moment I clapped eyes on Yoongi in this mv, I was instantly head over heels -- I didn't even know his name, I was just like I'll take that one, gimme. Well, ok, at first I was like wait, what is Zelo doing in this group? But then I was like he's even cuter than Zelo, mama like!

I totally agree with what you said about this MV -- I think it's iconically brash, even for kpop, it's basically saying we're here to be your new obsession, submit to us. It's electrifying and so energetic. I also feel like the Fire mv has that vibe too although more summery and playful, it's more like ok we know you're obsessed with us, here have a little more.

I think what I love about the song isn't how it sounds (although I think it's catchy as fuck) but what you touched on -- the lyrics are meaningful and different. When I looked up the translations after first seeing the mv, which is also when I first heard the song, I was really impressed that they were alluding to the hardships of their trainee days and how hard they've worked to get where they are, it kind of reminded me of the ethos in Jay-Z's My 1st Song which has been my motto song for, like, ever. Instead of singing about girl I love you, girl I hate you but I want you, girl you make me so emo when you ignore me (which, granted, BTS has had some of those cliched songs too), they were singing about hustling, hardship, staying hungry and wanting to be on top. That kind of shit I can relate to more than a million girl be mine songs.

(Cannot agree with you about the bright red hair on my boy Taehyung, he was fire with that haircolor, and I'm usually not a wacky haircolor fan -- for example, I'd be very content if Yoongi just had pitch black hair forever amen)

Before I became a fan, my friend recommended this song to me. I didn't keep up with newer groups, and honestly the first time I heard this song, I thought I was too old to still like Kpop lol. The background music is so noisy and why do these youth keep shouting jjeoreo at me?? Now it's one of my favourites.

It's understandable why this song would bring in fans (my sister included). My sis gave me this song to get me into them, but then I didnt like it and preferred Danger.
2 years later, already a stan, I looked up the meaning of Dope, and now I appreciate it so much more.
