Dropping into this conversation to say, that after Yoochun's scandal I'm pretty scarred and am so worried BTS will disappoint me one day. I try not to think about it, and not let it effect my stanning, because 1. I shouldn't let an asshat (or a few of them) ruin something I enjoy and 2. Everyone deserves their own chance to have and maintain a good reputation, but I won't lie, I'm scared. The only group I've ever liked as much as DB5K is BTS so... hopefully they stay the good people they seem to be. I also worry about Rapmon (plus JHope) in particular. I think Jungkook could have had a major fuckboy phase without the influence of some of the other members/Big Hit, but I think the worst danger of that has passed lol?
Haha yeah, I don't think anyone except the people who were fans at the time can appreciate the level of greatness and talent DB5K served at their peak. Yoochun was never my favorite either, which actually makes it kind of worse to know it wasn't even my fave, and I still felt so horrible when we found out what he'd done.
I feel like a combination of JHope's personality traits could lead him to bad situations like that. He's very outgoing and sociable, so I'm sure in time (if he hasn't already) he'll get invited to nights out to salons and brothels. He has been named (along with Rapmon) the most "perverted" of the group which may seem trivial, but they do know each other best. Related to that, he seems like he'd be really open sex-wise to me? Like some of the other members seem like they'd cringe at the idea of having a one night stand (Jimin, Jungkook), but JHope seems like he'd consider it just having fun, and so I think his mindset on that could eventually extend as far as paying for sex.
Jimin, Jungkook, and Yoongi are introverted and probably will be friends with the same sort, so I think they'll have an easier time dodging those kinds of places. Tae, while friendly with everyone, at the moment, seems way too traditional/conservative to enjoying going out to a place like a brothel? (Then again, maybe that'd make him more likely to be okay with it lol??) Jin is close friends with a few other idols, and I guess you can never know, but they don't seem the type? Sandeul and Ken, eh?
Haha yeah, someone asked on a fansign post it note "rank who is the most perverted" and Jimin wrote down RM or JHope in all 7 spots lol.
You know, a friend of mine said that she thought Jin could be a undercover freak lolol, so maybe I'm the one miss out on these signs!
ia with your stats. At least one of them probably will at some point which sucks to think about. I was telling some of my other BTS stan friends about my worries, and I felt bad cause I don't think any of them really think BTS would do something like that. I felt like the Negative Nancy, oops.
Agreed. It's not just that they use their personalities/bond to pull in stans, but a lot of their music is suppose to be "socially conscious" so... if one of them ends up doing something really terrible/gross it'll seem like even MORE of a lie. It won't just be "I didn't think you were this kind of person." it'll be "You SAID you weren't this kind of person, but you are."
I think Jungkook could have had a major fuckboy phase without the influence of some of the other members/Big Hit, but I think the worst danger of that has passed lol? Nah, he's still really young, he has plenty of years of fuckboyness to go.
I'm not really worried about RapMon or really any of the other BTS guys mostly because I don't have any expectations of celebs, especially male celebs, of not being assholes. RapMon might do some of that stuff (altho tbh I don't really see it, he's pretty nerdy and if he was to get caught w/drugs it'd be like in amsterdam doing pot at some hipster coffeeshop/bookstore or something dorky like that) but I think he's savvy enough not to get caught. He's kind of a mini-politician in the making, he's really good at managing his own image except for when he pontificates too much and says some really fucked up things. If anything, I think that's what he'll get in trouble for in the future -- what he says rather than what he does, which is just as serious don't get me wrong.
Lamo at anyone who thought Big Bang, TVXQ, or SuJu were upstanding, their generation was the most fucked up because that was really kpop's glory days in Korea, they thought they were untouchable and then they acted like that and look where it got them -- exposed for being the assholes a lot of them are. If anything, i think the newer groups are much more careful than the older generations of idols, ofc they can never be careful enough esp. with social media nowadays.
Yeah I think your concerns are very valid. The more famous and wealthy a celeb gets, the more temptations are tossed in front of them and the less people saying no to them. I guess it'll depend on how much control Big Hit is able to keep on them moving forward as BTS's star stock continues to ascend (not sure if this will end up in a Frankenstein situation where Big Hit find that they've created something that's gotten so big they can't keep a leash on it anymore -- I'm already feeling like ARMY is this monolith drunk on fan power that believes it can accomplish anything for the guys), I think I should probably be more worried but I came to kpop having already been a big fan of rap/hip hop for a long time so nothing that BTS or any other kpop artist does really fazes me. I think BTS's fanbase overall will support them but I think where a scandal might hurt them would be in the court of general public opinion -- like their star stock wtih the general everyday ppl who don't really follow kpop would have a bad impression of them.
I think it's probably inevitable that at least one of the members is going to do something in the future that is fucked up -- that's kind of the nature of the beast of being human and then when you add on being a celeb surrounded by ppl catering to you and telling you how amazing you are, it's a recipe for a celeb who has been in the business since a young age to lose their grip on reality and careen into a mindset where they believe they are invincible and their actions will always be forgiven b/c they're special. It's probably not the best thing but quite a lot of my favorite musicians are pretty shitty human beings and I wouldn't want to know them or be friends with them, I just enjoy their ability to do their job well and their musical talent. BTS do seem like friends and the guys next door, but ultimately that shouldn't mean that much to their female fans who need to realize that even male friends and the guys next door could very well have the capacity to be messed up assholes.
IDK I kind of never had good vibes from Yoochun -- I guess I would've been surprised if it had been Yunho. And I feel like anyone who was following SuJu fairly closely back then would've realized that there were some unsavory personalities in the mix there (I should know, I was a Leeteuk stan back during that time -- I got into kpop in 2008 so I remember the era you reference, it doesn't even feel that long ago, I still remember when monster hits like Mirotic and Sorry Sorry came out). The situation with Kim Hyunjoong did surprise me a little but not if I really think about it, a lot of ppl knew about how he had a troubled past and difficult childhood/home life (not that it's an excuse for what he's done) even back in 2008-09 when he was at the height of his fame with WGM and Boys Over Flowers.
