Synopsis: During the Kingdom of Silla, a group of elite youth known as Hwarang (literally "Flowering Knights") would wield great influence. These dashing, talented knights – Moo Myung, Sam Maek Jong, Soo Ho, Ban Ryu, Yeo Wool, Han Sung, and maiden Ah Ro – could outsmart and outfight anyone as they pushed for justice in Seorabeol, the capital city. One of them would become King Jin Heung of Silla and change the course of history.

Haven't watched yet because I always getting behind on dramas while home for Christmas, but let's have more discussion on how pretty Hyungsik is in this.

I couldn't care less about the love triangle tbh, can this be about the king training with his future bffs so they can take the throne back?

My fav Hwarang from now is Ban Ryu, love me some troubled soul that desperately wants to hide his softness under a cold and patronizing facade because of his messed up family.

The scene with the horses... LMFAO it was so extra and ridiculous I can't. At least we got Hyungsik's hair flowing flawlessly in the wind.

Speaking of Hyungsik, when is he gonna quit playing and marry me.

As is Minho's acting. He is seriously the weakest link, how does he keep getting acting jobs. Is it just bc he's pretty

Same I ff-ed most of ep 1 and 2 as i thought they dragged out certain unnecessary scenes.

not sure if you want my opinion since it's incredibly biased, but i think he's doing a good job so far. his character is described as "full of curiosity, laughs a lot, and if he focuses on something, he won't know what's going on around him even if the world is turning upside down" (direct quote from the show)

as the show goes on he's gonna have more lines and more screen time but as of episode 4, he's only had a few minutes lol. but so far his little appearances have been great - he fits the role of an innocent and curious boy really well. most of his scenes have been quite lighthearted, but episode 4 showed some seriousness and depth to his character, which i feel was done quite well.

he also looks good in the wig :)

i said i would watch when all the episodes were out, but i got bored today and im on episode 3 rn.

go ara overacts and looks constipated in almost every scene, i think its the eyebrows. i hope she tones it down in future episodes. i like her with the king, but im assuming she'll be endgame with the protagonist.

my man looks good even with that ugly wig.

ia with you about ara's acting. I was never fond of it, even in reply 1994 where EVERYONE was praising her so I'm glad it's not just me who doesn't like her acting. I can't with all the faces she makes I feel like they're all the same too.

So I wasn't going to watch this because I wasn't interested. Then I stayed up until 4 am watching all 4 episodes when I had to go to work at 8.

Is it suppose to have modern elements? Like football and the nightclub? I'm not just imagining things, right? Whether it's supposed to be that way or not, I love it.

Minho is terrible but I love his character and his little layered bangs.Like someone said above, I'm less interested in the love aspect and more into the king and his squad on their squad journey.

I cried so much and y'all know why. I just need for Dog-Bird(his name is?) and Go Ara's character to not and just be brother-sister.

I haven't even started watching this yet (I plan to) and I can already tell I'm going to have major second lead syndrome. Although, I've never liked Go Ara in anything because she doesn't know how to act naturally so I think I'd only be rooting for her to get together with Hyungsik's character because he likes her not because I think they'd actually be good together, unfortunately.

i'm actually loving the show so far (minus the love triangle #teamking). i would LOVE a backstory on Ahn Ji and the queen, it seems like they were romantically involved at one point and that she was in a lower class than Ahn Ji.

also my favourite characters rn are the shopkeeper guy (idk his name) and We An (i think), that dress up scene in episode 4 was hilarious.

i need more Taehyung and Hyungsik in my life. i really can't hate them in those wigs, they're so beautiful lol.

I HAVE YET TO WATCH EPISODE 4, my drama watching partner went to sleep, but even with Go Ara's over-acting, I'm really enamoured with her character, she's really fiesty and hilarious. (I'm on #teamking, please stop with the love triangle, i just want dogbird to pursue his revenge plot and mourn his bromance in peace T__T)

I'm still rooting for the evil queen mother in some ways, but also not? idk. I'm interested in knowing more about her backstory with go ara's father and whether her motivation is truly protecting her on or taking the throne (or a good mixture of both?)

Also, so far the side characters are super funny, I love the flowerknights so far (though I'm having trouble telling the difference between yeowool and the prince on certain occasions, because their hair is really similar, oops. they're both gorgeous though)

V really does look the best in that costume and he's been doing prett well with his acting. I haven't reall gotten any second hand embarrasment moments beause of him. And speaking of that... Minho is just awkward and I will forever be unable to get the fuss about his looks. He does nothing for me.

The first episodes have been a bit silly, but it has potential to get better. I'm not too fond of Go Ara, though. Something about her makes me not to get attached to her character.

I quite liked the first 2 episodes but i loved episodes 3 and 4 - it's really gotten better imo.

The acting is not as distracting as in first 2 episodes too at least for me, I think it's bc I got used to the characters more so it is not as bad (although Minho is the weakest so far... I haven't seen him in something else but I think he is there more for his looks).

The love triangle is pointless, I hope they won't be putting too much time and development in it and just get on with the Hwarang storyline.

at this point i already ship sam maekjong and moo myung (dogbird) looks like theyre gonna build some form of friendship eventually? i am all for it.

im glad ep 3-4 really picked up the plot and the pacing from the mess that was the first episode. minho's acting was embarrassing for the most parts but he was extra adorable when he was fawning all over moo myung after the soccer match.
jealous sam maek jong was super adorable lord, how is hyungsik so pretty, i spent a good hour scouring hyungsik videos on youtube after watching these episodes.
anyway this drama would have been better if they tweaked the king character to be less entitled/spoiled and more free-spirited, humble, & 'does not take himself too seriously' type

Eps 1-2 were still about building the universe (not as bad as Goblin's first two eps tho) but 3-4 were hilarious, I love the Queen and the main characters (Go Ara could do some changes tho) but Minho's character fits him well (arrogant) so idt it's over the top.

I finally remembered where I know Ahro's friend from, it's the main girl from 20, that cute mini-fanficish-series with Kikwang. She was so good in that, I hope she'll get to show her range in this drama too.

I gasped when the adoptive dad slapped Banryu's biological dad. And when Banryu's tear fell. That was a powerful scene. I want to know the backstory!

But man, I loved the football scene, everyone looked so good and it was so fun. This is the right kind of fusion-sageuk for me, it doesn't take itself too seriously, is tongue-in-cheek and doesn't forget that characters make the story. Give me characters to root for and I'm in for the ride.
