Following news of Jung Il Woo starting his mandatory national service in December, it has been revealed that the actor has a cerebral aneurysm, which is a weakened blood vessel wall that results in an enlarged artery. Though only some people with aneurysms experience symptoms, rupture and bleeding caused by an aneurysm may cause a stroke, coma, or result in death.

In an official announcement released on November 30, Jung Il Woo’s agency said, “In 2006, after a car accident, Jung Il Woo had been diagnosed with a concussion, cerebral hemorrhaging, and localized amnesia (memory loss of certain events, usually traumatic). Since about three years ago, he has had frequent headaches. After a medical examination, Jung Il Woo was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm.”

The agency said that if Jung Il Woo requests a reexamination of the aneurysm, it could be grounds for exemption from compulsory enlistment, but Jung Il Woo is determined to do his service. “Though he regrets not being able to enlist as an active duty soldier, he will be doing his best as a public service worker,” said the agency. “Jung Il Woo is sad that he is unable to properly greet his loving fans. Please send him a lot of love and support.”

He is probably receiving criticism for doing Public Service even though he has a medical excuse. Glad his agency is trying to defend him.

Ah is this like the same thing like that Stranger Things kid has? He really should excuse himself either way. :(

I know actors/idols/any public figure recieve a lot of pressure because of the military enlistment, but this is his health, his life at risk... it just doesn't seem the right decision... at least he may stay in an office working...

it's still tragic that even after that very serious accident he went back to filming and didn't get the proper time off to heal, like: "The reason why the aftereffect of the car accident has lasted this long is because he could not go through the consistent treatment. Jeong Il-woo appeared in the sitcom 'High Kick!' only after going through the initial four month treatment. He could not follow through the rehabilitation treatment in oder to fit into the filming schedule at the time. And the symptoms became worse due to the action acting and other acting involving strenuous physical activities."

It's always the worst when people praise their work ethics when things like this come up...like NO, this is not what work ethic should look like.

The army wouldnt allow him to do service anyway, would they? That's not a minor health issue.

is public service worker is like what donghae, top, etc are doing? they still had to go through a few months of training right?
he probably wants to be save and doesnt want netizen keep mentioning/criticizing him in the future whenever he does the smallest mistake if he took the exemption :/

Donghae, Changmin, Siwon etc are conscripted policemen. Public service workers (Heechul, Yesung, etc) are more like government office workers. But I think everybody has to attend the inìtial few months' training regardless.

I agree, he should take an exemption. And I'm curious why he hasn't had surgery, though the surgeon who operated on my mom after her cerebral aneurysm burst told us that hers was so small he wouldn't have operated on her immediately. He would've just told her to come in periodically to have it checked. Of course my mom was 66 when hers burst, not in the military, nor at a high risk for head trauma.

Also, my mom is pretty much fine. She recovered and turned 70 this year. It was mostly due to luck that she survived, but you should not fuck around with an aneurysm, no matter how small.

Thank you! She's a rare person to survive that, so hopefully Jung Il Woo will take care of himself.

oh no...please don't go! He's a ticking time bomb...the army should just deny him right away. They used to deny people because of tattoos. he has an actual health issue, please deny him

That's awful. My mom died from a cerebral aneuryism, they are nothing to take lightly. Any "fans" who are giving him shit about doing public duty need to be slapped with a stinky dead fish.
