Article: YG "Psychological issues" vs Nam Taehyun "I was thrown out"... is he on the verge of being cut from Winner?
Source: TV Report via Nate

While YG released a statement claiming psychological issues for Nam Taehyun's hiatus from Winner, fans noticed far before that he has been acting on his own for a while now. He no longer lives with Winner in their dorm or is with them at all. SNS shows evidence of him separate from Winner in several instances. He has also started releasing personal compositions on Soundcloud despite Winner's postponed music releases. His most recent song has lyrics that allude to a break up between himself and Winner: "Farewell, don't act sad, I don't care, you don't either, I don't care, nothing lasts forever, I'm alone in the end anyway, might as well sing, shut up, what are you saying? I can't hear you anyway, do what you want, I don't care, I can match myself to you but I'm thrown out anyway so I'll just shout"

1. [+289, -10] Seems like there's something going on

2. [+230, -37] Not surprising considering that temper of his ㅡㅡㅋ

3. [+208, -22] So what are we supposed to do about this?

4. [+31, -3] Might as well just combine Winner and iKON at this point

5. [+30, -2] I'm a Winner fan and every time I saw Winner TV, I always thought that Nam Taehyun didn't have a personality fit for a group environment... Song Minho, Kim Jinwoo, and Lee Seunghoon tries to take care of him so much but he never lets them in emotionally... it was really frustrating watching that..

6. [+30, -2] Get on Yang Hyun Suk's bad side once and you'll never recover

7. [+26, -1] In a situation where Winner hasn't even succeeded yet, does he think he can make it as a solo? He'll probably end up enlisting in the army and eventually end up forgotten

8. [+19, -8] Winner will never make it as long as they keep Nam Taehyun on the team

9. [+18, -1] Even if YG really did "throw him away", for a company as trashy as YG to do that must mean he did something really bad... an image is everything for an idol and his image is already pretty negative.

10. [+14, -1] I want to see the other four, I really like Winner

11. [+13, -2] I think Winner's hitting rock bottom now

The truth is we don't know the full story. We can speculate all we want and form all sorts of theories about Winner's personal lives or what goes on in their company, but I don't think it's fair to be pointing fingers at anyone without having real facts.

also, netizen 8 can go fall in a ditch.

Idk what to think but I hope he's okay. I've been thinking about him all day as weird as it sounds.

If he gets kicked out tho imma riot.

I think the whole situation's really fishy; that statement came out of nowhere and sounded more like YG throwing him under a bus.

Idk much about Winner, but they seem to get the shitty treatment from YG. It's not surprising to see that they (he) are acting out; if not in retaliation then at least in need to/of work.

"I'm a Winner fan and every time I saw Winner TV, I always thought that Nam Taehyun didn't have a personality fit for a group environment..."

Why do people always come out of the woodwork AFTER rumours to say this? lol

If he were to leave, I wouldn't blame him (or anyone) because it doesn't seem as if YG gives a damn about the group.

That being said, I'm not gonna jump to conclusions and just... wait and see I guess. I hope he's okay, or will be... because whatever's going on rn, it's clear he hasn't been. Whatever choice he needs to make for the betterment of his mental health will always be the right one.

i think some people don't want to comment on things like so-and-so not fitting in because they don't want to appear like an anti or unsupportive or whatever. people think if you don't have 100% positive things to say about a group then you're not a ~real fan. but now that there's kind of some evidence they feel more secure to come out and say it.

(that comment reads kind of harsh, but i kinda agree with them ... he doesn't really have a good personality for groups. it's not a bad thing, i'm the same way. except ... i think they meant it in a bad way haha)

When you put it like that, I guess I understand. I think because I'm not the type to hold back (though I'll phrase it in a non-controversial way), I'm always surprised when comments turn up after the fact.

I get what you mean too, he just seems introverted in the way that doesn't really lend itself to a big demand that being in a group is. He's always seemed like a (voluntary) loner to me, I have friends like that so it never registers as 'off'. That netizen comment definitely seemed negative and not just concerned though lol.

Agreed with you on all counts. K-netz especially seem to do this a LOT. There's bound to be at least one comment on every 'scandalous' article that goes "I've always noticed..." uhm. It's funny how these comments never surface until something goes wrong. YG is an asshole, I can't believe he's actually allowing a group like Winner to waste away. But then again, he's never given two fucks about groups other than BB.

lol this is totally unrelated to winner.... whenever i comment about group dynamics, etc, i get variations of this: "do you know them personally? if not, shut up. they are all friends." and i'm like.... a) it's just my two cents, why so offended, b) do YOU know them personally?
....this is not to excuse any korean netizens, i guess there's plenty people just randomly saying "they always thought blabla"

the way incles have been treating taehyun's possible depression is so shitty. the signs are all there and if anything he needs support instead of shitty mudslinging/speculation.

Wtf..... how can you make such a statement when ICs have been showering him with love and support ever since the news came out. Its really ignorant of you to believe that these negative comments were all written by ICs or to believe that all ICs think like these haters. Also there has been 0 detail about what his condition is so you cant assume its depression.

i wouldn't be surprised, the concept of yg actually caring about their idol's mental health is pretty farfetched

edit: wow these comments are pretty messed up lol

Tbh I don't know why they released the statement like that. A 'he is taking a break for mental health' is fine, I don't know why YG needed to point out that he has been going through mental heath issues since trainee days, like this is some sort of phase he is going through again or something.

either way fuck u yg lets all pretend like you care about the mental health of your artists.

Date: 2016-10-13 02:59 am (UTC)

yeah esp cause YG rarely ever comments on their artists' private lives. what's with all the details now??

ia that part in the statement was weird. esp cause netizens really foam at the mouth about his ~iljin past and given korea's opinion of mental health issues they're basically saying he's been troubled all this time. idk i definitely side eyed that part.

To shed any suspicion that they are responsible for his condition most probably. People already comments how unfit he seems to be in the group from the start or try to tie bully rumours to his condition, so it was really dirty move imho.

Because god forbid someone in an insanely challenging and probably cutthroat industry would have any type of mental illness....

Idk, who knows the true etc. but I wouldn't be suprised if he, health issues aside, was the one who couldn't hold it any longer& piss off some people in the company by arguing with them/going all in and then that YG statement was made to cool things down in optimistic variant, threaten him in pesimistic or to buy time for figuring stuff in lukewarm.

These are irrelevant comments , not even 500 up votes yet i already see stupid people generalizing and believing that it represents the whole Inner Circle fandom. Jfc get yourself some common sense. If you were a true fan or if you had IC as friends you would know that the fandom was shocked by the random release of this news BUT the fandom also immediately showered Taheyun with supportive messages. Ive also seen people from other fandoms or people who dont know WINNER very well still empathizing with Taehyun & his condition and with WINNER and how YG continuously mismanages them. If anything im happy at how much support he has received from fans & non fans alike and it makes me thankful.

Im not a fan of Winner but its nice to hear/read that fans are very supportive and giving him positive energy. If indeed he's got some issues, supportive fans will definitely help.

I hope that Winner (with Taehyun) can get through this challenge that they're all facing now.

i haven't commented anywhere about this yet and i have a lot of thoughts
- i have no doubt he's working through problems at the moment, and i'm glad he's able to focus on his mental health
- i'm one of those people who doesn't believe (most) groups are close, so the whole not being with the other members at events/out and about doesn't sound like anything to me
- yg's statement does kind of sound like they're throwing him under the bus, but i suppose that could be because of the translation work and my general distrust of anything they release
- like the commenter above said ... what's with all the private details? very unlike yg.

but the reality is, we'll never know the truth so it is what it is.

We don't know enough and we don't need to. We don't know what the subject of that song is about. We don't know what plans he was apart of. We don't know when this became something big enough to effect his work. We don't know what he agreed to share or whys behind it. We don't know.

It won't hurt to not speculate and let him come forward. It will hurt if these speculations are wrong but gain traction and force Taehyun out to divulge more of his private information.

I had to go with what was said in the first statement, and I didn't like how the situation was expressed. I didn't find it necessary to mention Winner's comeback at all (or divulge a lot of really specific details). Simply put, the statement could have just said Taehyun was having a break to take care of his mental health (which would explain his distance from the others if he were working on recovering).

The situation speculated as going THIS far? I don't see it. Those comments are trash.

this is why people don't come forward when their mental health is suffering.

i hope taehyun was the one to want to share his personal life and not yg forcing him too

well that whole statement threw him personally under the bus in a BIG way and mental illness stigma will follow him forever especially since for some shitty reason yg decided to reveal that he had problems since predebut (i have a lot of doubts if taehyun even approved of statement like this). i mean tons of people (not fans. i don't even understand why people say anything about ic bad reaction when korean fans were showing nothing but support) are calling him iljin and are acting like "duhhhh ofc he is messed up in the head!!".
but this kind of articles and speculations don't sit well with me. i wish he would be left in peace and get therapy instead of being discussed by journalists and other people in such way.

I wish people wouldn't immediately start speculating. It just drives the ones who want to be nosy to flooding his SNS account with comments. Thankfully, Inner Circle has been super supportive from all the ones I interact with.

Let him focus on getting better and when he wants to release a statement or whatever, then deal with it.

Random comment: Idk why, but I'm just not a fan of taehyun's singing voice. Like, I can deal with it, but I get kinda annoyed with it half the time. It's like taemin. I love shinee to death, but some of their songs (especially their softer songs) I just can't take his voice.

That being said, I hope he receives all the support and comfort he needs to help work through his depression/anxiety. And I hope to have a winner comeback within the next year. I tend to really like their songs

We clearly don't know all that happened before but I really think YG has some responsibility in this when they see one of their artist spiralling down.

Whether it's some major scheme to forever delay Winner or out a member, I think the most important is for Taehyun (and his mom?) to get better. He looks pretty close with the boys and if there's something really fishy going on I have the feeling Mino will somehow mention it at some point.

This article was written by known Winner anti in order to purely cause mess, so it's pretty sad that people outside Korea are posting it when the article itself has no relevance in Korea.

I still don't get why YG released that statement at all? I wonder what's going on behind the scenes, cause it seemed as if YG liked Taehyun. He bought him production equipment, gave him lots of opportunities, and two solo songs. idk what's going on but I hope WINNER and Taehyun find strength. As difficult having this mad public will be, I hope Taehyun finds freedom in it and that it inspires other kids to get the help they need.
