I think Chen is a good person, this is really nice of him and it's something that should be celebrated, it's definetly a strong message to give wearing that cap in Japan. But titles like this one could do more harm than good OP. He's not perfect, and has laughed of the same problematic jokes members had said before. Plus all of them donate to charity (at least I know Yixing has done it multiple times and he's far from perfect) and a lot of them also wear clothing with anti racism and anti sexism messages. I don't like being a party pooper, but lets stop rising unrealistic expectations on idols

Nobody on this earth is "unproblematic" lol, everyone fucks up and makes mistakes, some are just worse than others. I think it's just more evident with celebrities because they're under constant scrutiny so people are more aware of every misstep they have.

I am proud of Chen though for supporting comfort women since it's such a sensitive topic (especially in Japan!) that can always use more public support and awareness.

Not that Chen isn't an angel (except when he's being obscene like in my icon) but I loled at the shirt example.Half the time I'm pretty sure idols dont even know what the English on their clothes says (Never forget Lay's "piss on your face" hoodie).

No one is without fault, but what I appreciate about Chen is that he actually seems to mature and learn from past mistakes. Obviously not setting the expectation that he won't mess up again (since he has before), but he hasn't repeated those past comments recently so hopefully that isn't a part of his mentality now.

I would say it's quite brave to wear that hat while he's going to/in Japan, the backlash he could receive would be significant. So that's really admirable tbh.
