EXO Chen
Even though his hat looks common
it's a hat that supports the comfort women
he didn't wear it anywhere but decided to wear it going to Japan which bares so much more meaning
He wore it when he went to the concert at Hiroshima
and he wore it when leaving the country today too
It's not his only time,
he also wore a tshirt against racial discrimination before
Furthermore for Steve Barakatt's visit concert,
he decided to volunteer for it and when asked why
he said that it's because it's a collab of Steve Barakatt with UNICEF

Date: 2016-09-15 04:01 pm (UTC)I think Chen is a good person, this is really nice of him and it's something that should be celebrated, it's definetly a strong message to give wearing that cap in Japan. But titles like this one could do more harm than good OP. He's not perfect, and has laughed of the same problematic jokes members had said before. Plus all of them donate to charity (at least I know Yixing has done it multiple times and he's far from perfect) and a lot of them also wear clothing with anti racism and anti sexism messages. I don't like being a party pooper, but lets stop rising unrealistic expectations on idols

Date: 2016-09-15 05:28 pm (UTC)i also wanted to comment on the title (not necesarily because of chen but more that it might not be a good idea to divide idols into problematic/unproblematic) but if OP says it's just for fun then it is. thanks for posting!

Date: 2016-09-15 05:37 pm (UTC)Nobody on this earth is "unproblematic" lol, everyone fucks up and makes mistakes, some are just worse than others. I think it's just more evident with celebrities because they're under constant scrutiny so people are more aware of every misstep they have.
I am proud of Chen though for supporting comfort women since it's such a sensitive topic (especially in Japan!) that can always use more public support and awareness.

Date: 2016-09-15 06:12 pm (UTC)Do admire him for the comfort women hat though and I hope it doesn't catch any backlash for him in Japan

Date: 2016-09-15 06:25 pm (UTC)He's still the least problematic so far, who knows whether or not he'll mess up big in the future.

Date: 2016-09-15 07:17 pm (UTC)I would say it's quite brave to wear that hat while he's going to/in Japan, the backlash he could receive would be significant. So that's really admirable tbh.
