PSY sets up his own label under YGE

PSY’s long-cherished dream of making an independent label will finally be true.

According to sources, PSY is to set up an independent label called “PSYG” under YG Entertainment. He has wanted to start a label for years, and recently he was able to take steps in making his dream of establishing a label come true. He even finished the corporate registration process for his label on August 6.

PSYG will be run as an independent sub label of YG along with THE BLACK LABEL and HIGHGRND. Led by TABLO, HIGHGRND is the label of THE BLACK SKIRTS and HYUKOH. TEDDY, KUSH, and ZION.T are signed onto THE BLACK LABEL, and they make music in a system independent from YG.

PSY had talked about how he wanted to start a label before and said, “It was a promise between YANG HYUN SUK and me when I joined YG.”

PSY will be leading PSYG and explore and create various genres of music. It is said that YANG HYUN SUK promised to provide full support for PSY’s new label.

Meanwhile, PSY is currently going back and forth between Korea and China to work on his album and do promotional activities in China.

How does a sub label work? Is whatever produced by them also property of YG? Or does part of their profit included into YG total profit?

i'm guessing a part of their profit goes back to yg, but i think that would be the same for any investors? it just seems to me that that's what yg is for these sub labels, just an investor. i think that yg doesn't have much say in what goes on in the sub labels, i think he put up the money and called it a day lol. but i could be wrong. apparently bigbang's copyrights aren't shared with the company, yge only takes a from the group music sales, like 30 percent, i think. so maybe yge doesn't own the sub labels' music either, but they probably get a cut too.
