On May 19, Jung Il Woo's agency revealed that the actor is confirmed to be enlisting as a public service officer. “It hasn’t been confirmed for certain when he will enlist,” they added.

This announcement comes following that of Lee Minho, a good friend of Jung Il Woo, who announced yesterday that he would be enlisting as a public service officer. Lee Min Ho’s agency, MYM Entertainment, revealed details about the actor’s enlistment and said, “Will serve as a public service officer regardless of when he decides to begin his military service. We are looking at early next year.”

In August 2006, Jung Il Woo and Lee Min Ho, who were traveling together, were both involved in a serious car accident which left a driver and passenger dead. Both actors were gravely injured and had to spend several months in the hospital to treat their wounds. Lee Min Ho had to have a steel rod inserted into his right thigh, while Jung Il Woo suffered a concussion, cerebral haemorrhage, and broke his wrist and pelvic bone. Lee Min Ho eventually had the steel rod in his right thigh removed sometime after Boys Over Flowers ended in 2009.

Due to their careers and shooting schedules, neither actor was able to receive a sufficient amount of rehabilitation and treatment, and both have suffered the aftereffects of the injuries, which affect their ability to serve as active duty soldiers.

Furthermore, when filming for drama "CIty Hunter" back in 2011, Lee Min Ho was involved in another car accident that destroyed half of the vehicle he was in. Thus, his poor condition during his physical check-up qualified Lee Min Ho to serve as a public service officer when he begins his mandatory military service.

Last month Lee Min Ho stated in a Chinese interview, “I have not decided exactly when I will start my military service.” He is currently slated to appear on a SBS drama written by Park Ji Eun at the end of this year, which will likely be Lee Min Ho’s last work before enlisting. The actor is also looking forward to the premiere of his first Chinese film, “Bounty Hunters.”

Jung Il Woo is currently filming for a new drama, “Cinderella And The Four Knights” (working title).

1. [+5,265, -473] Kyuhyun almost lost his life in his car accident but still served active duty ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ (OP: LOL Kyu hasn't served yet)
2. [+4,520, -291] So he can do action dramas but can't serve active duty.......
3. [+4,240, -324] He'll do all sorts of action scenes in dramas and CFs but has to serve public service? ㅋ What a joke
4. [+3,799, -261] The city hunter is serving public service... talk about an image breaker...
5. [+1,074, -105] So what if he has a metal pin in him? I had one too but I still finished my service and discharged just fine
6. [+931, -75] Feels like celebrities get a lot more injured than the rest of us commoners
7. [+983, -94] He can't even live up to Yoo Seung Ho, Yoon Shi Yoon, or Oh Jong Hyuk. Even Moon Hee Jun who doesn't even have cartilage still served.
8. [+841, -68] Talk about a load of excuses ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

I desperately want their respective enlistment send-off dramas to be GOOD. I haven't been impressed with any of their dramas since CIty Hunter and 49 Days/FBRS freaking 5 years ago.

op you probably won't get your wish wrt Jung Ilwoo, he doesn't love himself and the project he's currently attached to sounds bad and doesn't even have a broadcaster yet 😩

I also snorted at the comment about Kyuhyun. Also, is his physical health good enough to allow him to be on active duty, whether he wants to or not? That's the $60 question.

because of his multiples health problems from the accident kyuhun is eligible to be exempt of active duty but (according to fans) he took the test until they accept him, like ryeowook did .... there's no official sm statement about his enlistment tho

Both of them have track record of acting in crap dramas. Like you OP, the last drama that I enjoyed from Jung Ilwoo is 49 Days while for Lee Minho, City Hunter & Faith (haha I happen to like Faith a loooot! :D -- Kim Heesun, remains to this day the one LMH has the most chemistry with).

Yes yes nice soundtrack to accompany the drama. My fave to this day remains Shin Yongjae's Because My Steps Are Slow since it portrays Choi Young's POV towards the doctor. :))

People need to realize doing CFs/Action scenes, doesn't mean they are really fit or doing real action.

Some of those scenes, takes lots of days, camera angles, even use body stunts, to make the scene real, and this doesn't mean he is fit to work every day in army without getting their health worse.

Yeah, it's a ridiculous argument. Arnie and Stallone both still do action movies and they're pushing seventy, would they be fit for active service too?

come on now .... this not a competition of "who spend more time in comma or into hospital CCU"

i'm amazed those netizens know kyuhyun tried active duty test until he passed ... anything to make those who dont do it look bad :/

I get where the netizens are coming from when LMH does so many ~action dramas, but if a doctor is saying he is medically incapable of serving active duty, then why give him a hard time? He's still going to serve...

do the netz even know how much worse and physically and mentally straining the army is compared to filming for an action movie? and as users have mentioned above, filming for action movie doesn't always equate to the actors doing all the stunts and actions by themselves jfc

if i was a korean man i would also act bitter about this. but i'm lucky to live in a place where even for men this is not a thing since a few decades, and so i just feel lucky.
