Article: BTS' Jin, From Mokbang to Photoshop Competitions, Content Maker in the Idol Scene

Many new idols show up in the gayo industry every year. They need to have different contents with other groups to survive in this world with a such fierce competition. Within the contents, it is also essential to make a 'hot topic' to attract the fandom. So the entertainment companies would make a separate planning team for that purpose and they focus on making various contents, from the member's selcas to their reality. BTS' Jin went beyond what companies would have planned, he started from uploading his own cooking recipes, Mokbang to having Photoshop competitions. He is making lots of contents to communicate with the fans.

BTS has been known for constantly making extra contents. From their 'BANGTAN BOMB' which shows their offstage images, to their 'LOG' which contains member's current feelings and etc. They're firmly building up their fandom through various of contents. Apart from the basic contents, Jin made a separate section called 'Jin' on their official blog, he cooks and uploads his recipes in series. He is bringing out sympathy (with the fans) through using popular expressions/ catchphrases and his own personality. The fans could feel a sense of closeness because of his non-manipulated image.

He doesn't only broadcast Mokbang on Youtube and Naver's V App, he also uploads videos of him eating some local food when they are having overseas tours. He named it 'Eat Jin' and it has been getting lots of love from the fans. Mokbang is in the forefront of one-man broadcast show. The fans responded enthusiastically as they can see their favorite star through the Mokbang. He doesn't simply eat in those videos, he also makes the other members join in and includes elements of entertainment.

Recently, he had an online Photoshop competition with fans on Twitter. He didn't just upload the selcas, he tweeted "if you can solve it, I will keep giving you a new mission through photos", "I'm giving you a picture of Kim Seokjin driving as a homework" and etc, he tweeted along with photos with special effects. And he jokingly tweeted "if I don’t see a similar photo to the original by tomorrow, I will delete the original", "I won't reveal the photo of me driving, because there aren't any perfect ones from the monitoring results" and etc. This is him, encouraging the fans to participate through his amusing tweets.

A staff in Big Hit Entertainment explains to SSTV, "before BTS' debut, we made contents for each member but the company didn't push or force them to take the roles of making special contents. And the members naturally made contents to communicate with fans, so that they can get closer with the fans." The staff continues, "our company gives them the opportunities and I think the members have to use it comfortably so that the fans and themselves can both enjoy. I hope people won't only see it as the production of contents, but accept it as a 'pastime'."

kim seokjin truly is a gift to us all. i love how he talks about food with so much love and just takes every opportunity to stuff his mouth full with it. to this day i'm still amazed at how he manages to fit so much food in his mouth, it's ridiculous :')

i liked that little part told by the big hit staff member. good that they went with what felt natural for the boys instead of forcing a certain content on each members. i always find it interesting when we got little 'insider' news on how things work or are set up behind closed doors.

he's so damn adorable, I love and appreciate him a lot. I think Jin is one of those boys that make you slowly fall for him, he's charming and so sweet, and the way he interacts with fans is lovely.
I seriously enjoy watching him having fun while eating, and this photoshop competition was so cute. I hope he gets more ideas in the future to play with the fans and make people fall in love even more with him <3

I never fully read the starcast, and I am so glad I did. Jin's absolutely hilarious, I love his stupid commentary, it's got the perfect mix of sense and sass. Thanks for linking, OP!

I saw this article on tumblr a while back and I totally agree, Jin's just an all around awesome person and so good with his fans. Because he isn't as well loved as some of the other members, he gets a lot of time to dedicate to his fans. I'm glad that all of BTS get to decide their concepts for these extra fan interactions, though Yoongi and Hoseok's debating over what to do for Hwagae market was pretty indicative of that already.

Jin is fcking hilarious. Sure he doesn't stand out in variety the way 95 line and Hoseok do but he like creates this material out of nowhere. I died when he started doing the photoshop challenges lol and his recipes and eatjin are always so hilarious and engaging, particularly the way he writes his recipes lol
