because of this fun little post from earlier, i realized that we haven't actually had a lot of posts on sugar man which is a bummer because it's a really fun / interesting show! (and, also, the site has been kinda dead lately so i figured it wouldn't hurt to make a compilation / original post of sort, lol)

for those not familiar with how the show works: the idea for sugar man (also known as two yoo project because of the shared last name of the main hosts) is inspired by the documentary searching for sugar man which revolves around the search for american musician, sixto rodriguez, who's career faded into obscurity in the states only (unknown to even himself) to become a superstar of sort in south africa. the concept of the show isn't too hard to grasp. it revolves around a weekly battle between two teams: one helmed by yoo hee yeol and the other by yoo jae suk. with every new episode, each team searches for their own "sugar man" to bring back: usually a one hit wonder or older musician who's disappeared from the public eye. after finding their artist, they choose representatives for their groups to recreate the one hit wonder from "said" musician in a way that appeals to today's music market. after each song is recreated, it'll be performed in front of an audience of different age demographics who vote on who they want to win after a performance from each team.

along with the above, each team also has a "side" mc and producers that work with recreating the song. 2ne1's dara works alongside yoo jae suk, who's worked with: black eyed pilseung, brave brothers, philtre, yoon jong shin, super changddai, dean yoo jae hwan and joker as producers. yoo hee yeol has lyricist kim eana working alongside him, and they've had: shinsadong tiger, don spike, sweetune, toy (which is basically just yhy himself), 10cm, kye bum joo, dj uzi, rocoberry, muzie and jacob work with them as producers. anyway. here we go, lol.

episode one: baro + jinyoung (b1a4) vs. bomi + namjoo (a pink)

It's such a great concept for a show.

I want to see fluxus teams, like Alex & Horan vs Yi Sung Yol. Or some rock bands.

this is such a good post. i remember having to figure out the concept of this show on my own a couple of weeks ago lol it's a cool concept. i haven't watched many performances but I LOVED ikon's song it really showcased their vocalists well.

To be fair, he did work with Dara for the first 10-15 episodes, then she switched teams, so he's with Kim Eana now.

Oh I didn't know the concept, but I like it. I'm always going to be amazed by Jung Joon Young's voices, as well as Homme's. And Jonghyun's always soooo good on stage, I love to watch him, ugh. Eunji might be my favorite lady these days, her voice is just gorgeous. I'm forever sad I can't enjoy A Pink and have to be content with her OSTs and performances on shows :(

There's way too many people I'd like on the show. Some rock bands for sure (Guckkasten ahem). AKMU too. HA:TFELT. Jinwoon from 2AM. Dasoni since they're now coming back? Maybe B1A4 too. Hongki (or FT Island, that's good with me too). Seo In Guk!

i loved Jung Joon Young's performance as well as Twice and Raina & Lizzy. Roy Kim's performance was great too but I'd love to hear JJY take a stab at that song since it sounded very 'rock'.
