Kim Junsu confirmed for ‘Dracula’ musical in 2016



‘Dracula’ which was the top-grossing musical in Korea back in 2014 has confirmed their final line-up, with JYJ’s Kim Junsu once again reprising the lead role of Dracula.

Kim Junsu made his musical debut through ‘Mozart’ in 2010, and has subsequently appeared in ‘Tears of Heaven’, ‘Elisabeth’, ‘December’, and ‘Death Note’.

Besides showing his talented acting ability, Kim Junsu has also become an indispensable heavy-weight actor of the musical world. He starred in the musical ‘Dracula’ in 2014, where he gained recognition for his dashing looks and solid performance as Dracula.



In the musical ‘Dracula’ two years ago, Kim Junsu transformed the usually dark role of Dracula, into a vampire that was humane with hurt inside of him. With his vibrant performance and superb vocals, Kim Junsu was hailed by audience members as the only actor who could bring to life the magical charms of Dracula.

Over 100,000 audience members are expected to turn up for the ‘Dracula’ musical in the two months weeks of play, and records might once again tumble.

With regards to starring in the musical again after two years, Kim Junsu said, “I’m really happy to be able to star in this musical that I like a lot, and I’ll be standing in front of audience members with a brand new image and alongside new cast members.”

The musical ‘Dracula’ will open at the Grand Theater of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts on January 23 until February 9 in 2016, with ticket sales starting on December 9th.

This is such a cool idea. I still love those Anyband tracks. They'd probably need full lyric sheets and a way to hear the songs to remember them at all... plus they probably wouldn't risk the potential SM wrath. Ha!

Yeah, but it's a pretty significant issue for that one member. I'm just thinking it was a special commercial deal with Samsung and SM, Tablo was in a small company that now has a connection with SM, and Tablo moved to YG which is a major competitor, AND SM ideally wants Junsu wiped from the face of the earth... I would be cautious about doing such a thing without getting official permission first.

I'd love it to happen though. Or for them to just mention the project at some point.

it wasn't really a special deal for sm, it was just another cf contract, and it's not only junsu fans asking for anyband songs, epik high fans talked about it too (which is why it was a trending topic when they announced junsu would be a guest). And as much as SM hates Junsu they can't do anything to stop them if they want to sing the songs, they don't have the rights or anything.


I doubt boa cares about them singing the songs without her, just like junsu wouldn't care if they sing them without him. The only issue here is if they remember the lyrics tbh lmao nothing else

SM doesn't have the rights? Who does? That's what I based my apprehension on.

I know anyone can cover a song in a concert without legal ramifications. It's more the potential for SM to stir up negative PR about it that worries me. But if they have no rights to the Anyband stuff then... it ain't no thang!

Lyrics and melody. It would be rad if they practiced for one of the songs. That would work. In a Genie Time situation, if they haven't heard them in forever, the struggle would be so real to remember melodies. Lol. It would be cute AF though.

What a wonderful post! That Dracula picture with the flower is super pretty and I love the tousled hair in the Star1 photoshoot.

I'm torn between wanting to hear Lion JS rapping again because it's hilarious and not wanting it because of second hand embarrassment.

I watched that musical with him last year and DAMN did it not make a single lick of sense, and I'm not even talking about how I don't know Korean. The songs were okay/pretty good and all the actors, not just Junsu, were amazing (my sister and I were actually most impressed with Mina's actress), but THE BOOK MADE NO SENSE. Like, both of us are familiar with Dracula in its many forms and constantly while we were watching it was like "WTF IS GOING ON?!"

On the other hand the Zorro musical was super easy to follow what was going on, and it was a completely original story on the general theme of Zorro.

Mostly what I got out of my Korean musical experience is that the general stock of Korean musical actresses are ~amazing~. They managed to hold up the often boring ingenue rolls and made you feel for them!

Ahh. See, I like musicals that can hold up without the emotional tie you already had with the actors. Like, I went to Zorro specifically to watch Key in it, but if I'd had the resources I totally would've watched it again with anyone. Same with Singin' in the Rain. Even though I enjoyed the actors and the songs well enough in Dracula I would NOT have gone again.

One thing that Dracula did excel at was its set design... they had one of the huge rotating stages and rhey utilized it sooo well. Anyway. I have feelings about musicals. XD

Yeah I totally understand, I don't know if this has anything to do with c-jes being newbies in the musical business or something, I think something similar happened with december too but that was the director modifying the story days after the first show taking into consideration reviews from the audience

The musical could be better, but fans loved it so I guess they're not going to change a lot, especially for a 2 week run

I wonder if he'll dye his hair for Dracula again. He seemed very 'over it' last time by the end. Lol. Hair frying and skin irritating. Maybe he'll do a wig, but I think he hated doing that in Mozart.

He's really packing in some awesome stuff before enlistment. Bootcamp will be boring compared to this.

I don't write to much on omona but... for anyone who's going in Korea at the time of his musical... or any musical actually... even if it's ''sold out'' .... just go! There is always cancellation, just go at the ticket boots who's open like 2hrs before the show and cross your finger! That's how I got my ticket for Elisabeth... sure you won't be sit in front but... come on... you're at the show how cool is that? lol (that weekend Junsu was on the sunday, double performance... got there on saturday for ticket and got lucky to get 2 tickets for the sunday night )

Not only I was able to go watch him live... but in the underground parking lot my friend and I was walking there hoping to see him but saw to many people waiting in front of the door so we turn around... and got lucky... Junsu escape by the other door! lol and got even more lucky since the next day I went to see his mother at crebeau belle to thanks her since she was the one who told us to go at the ticket boots for cancellation tickets... and Junsu walk right in... ^.^
