I think people say they're unpopular because internationally they're not as super popular as other groups, but it's pretty clear that they're kinda big in Korea.

The thing is, in those comments i'm referring to, they're talking about them losing/winning on music shows or awards in korea based on this "lack of popularity". There's a clear separation between the international and korea's public perception of the group. I mean, their physical sells are up there, and the digital ones are pretty good, especially for boygroups, and it translates in wins, so based on that I don't understand how people came to think that Beast is not popular in Korea. It makes even less sense if they base it on their experience with the international kpop fandom since it's two separate things altogether. XD

Yeah, I've noticed that international kpop fans tend to think that every other group that's not the typical ones (SNSD, Big Bang, 2NE1, EXO, etc) are unpopular or "flops" only based on their own perception when like you said, korean and international fandom are two totally different things. For example Infinite don't seem to be that big internationally based on their youtube views, comments on posts, etc but they're actually one of the most popular boy groups in Korea, with a huge fanbase. On the contrary, groups like BTS are already super popular internationally but only starting to get more known in Korea. I-fandom should stop thinking their perception is the only truth tbh.

When you look at the points in each category, each group pull their own weight tbh. Beast doesnt have physical sells for this song compared to the others to help them (and we know boygroups usually are strong physically but flop digitally), but Beast's digital sells here are actually higher, so you can already tell that it's not solely thanks to fan votes either. I find it quite surprising that their song is doing better since popular girl groups usually do really well in digital sells (snsd is ending their promo so it's not surprising if they lose) but Apink started being eligible only last week, and Gotta Go To Work isn't even a song they promoted last week (since their official comeback with Yey started this week). My point is, while it's undeniable their fandom had a hand in it, their public popularity via digital sells also has a major role in this win.

Also, I would personally rather say SNSD had more help from fandom, what with their 2240 points more than Beast in SNS (while Beast has "only" 727 points more in live votes), SNSD could have won boosted by their sns. And if they had been present, I'm sure the girls would have also gotten most of the live votes to get the award.

what happened to hoya? i just started getting into infinite so i haven't really been keeping up with them. i read that he was injured sometime last year but couldn't find anything about it recently...lingering injury?

anyhoo, i missed watching him on stage today; these promotions he's been dancing like his life depends on it which i really appreciate.

also, i know kpop does this but it's still strange to me when you have an injured member and you still have them up on stage but sitting in a chair and singing. just looks so awkward. wouldn't it just make more sense to have them sit out completely and maybe someone else cover their lines?

I'm not sure what happened exactly but he seemed pretty hurt since before the promo started so him dancing his life away for Bad reminded me of a time he said he felt he had to dance until his body disintegrated.
