[INTERVIEW] Mamamoo Solar “I wouldn’t date Moonbyul even if she really was a man.”
Mamamoo’s second mini-album Pink Funky was released on the 19th and they began promoting the title track, “Um Oh Ah Yeh”. The song ranked #1 on 4 digital music sites and ranked high on other sites.
We met Mamamoo in the KBS2 ‘Music Bank’ waiting room and they gave their thoughts on taking the #1 spot. “Honestly, we were talking about it earlier. We don’t know when we will fall [off the charts], but we decided to congratulate ourselves and move forward with a blank mind. Of course, it’s a great feeling.”
Whee In, “People don’t normally have a comeback exactly one year after debut. We came back on our 1 year anniversary, and seeing our good placement on the charts charged us up to give a good performance. However, rather than clinging to chart positions, we are working hard to please our fans.”
Mamamoo talks about the score of 50/100 they gave themselves at their media showcase.
Solar, “We talk amongst ourselves about the many places where we lack. Our CEO also always points out our lacking parts. We still have a long way to go. We want to put on composed performances. Watching our sunbaenims, we see how their stages are overflowing with composure, and as rookies that’s something we lack. We want to cultivate the strength to seize a more composed performance.”
When asked when they will be able to remove the tag of ‘Rookies’, Whee In joked, “We’ll be rookies until the day we win #1 on a music program.”
“We will always have the mindset of a rookie. We won’t forget our original intention and always act like rookies.”
Mamamoo shared the words they’d like to hear from people through these promotions. It’s more simple than you think.
“We wanted to look young.” Mamamoo’s oldest member, Solar, is only 24 years old. (Moonbyul is 23, Whee In and Hwa Sa are 20.)
Solar stated, “I want to hear people say, ‘So you’re still young’. ‘Pretty’ and ‘cute’ are also words I want to hear.”
Moonbyul, “People think we are old, and there are many who have not heard our songs. There is a preconceived notion that we only sing old-style songs, but through this promotion we want to let others know that we are young.”
In the music video for “Um Oh Ah Yeh”, Moonbyul dresses up as a man and Solar falls for her at first sight.
Solar was asked if she’d fall for Moonbyul if she really was a man. Surprisingly, she said, “No”.
Solar who said ‘No’ without the slightest concern stated, “Moonbyul is kind of greasy.”
Hearing this reasoning, Moonbyul began, “But…”, slurring the end of her sentence. She couldn’t refute Solar’s claim, causing laughter.

MAMAMOO tops real-time and daily online charts with comeback track, “Um Oh Ah Yeh”
Rookie girl group MAMAMOO is experiencing success on the charts with their latest comeback track, “Um Oh Ah Yeh.”
The girls have once again stolen hearts in their hilarious concept for the music video with three out of the four members switching gender roles and becoming quite the convincing men.
As of June 22nd at 1:30am KST, MAMAMOO’s “Um Oh Ah Yeh” is seen in #1 on daily charts for Mnet Music, Olleh Music, Soribada, Genie, and Monkey3, #5 on Bugs, and #2 on Naver Music. Additionally, they are seen ranking in #1st place on real-time charts for Soribada, Genie, Naver Music, and Monkey 3 as well, placing them in #2 on iChart’s real-time and weekly chart score wise.
MAMAMOO made their debut in June 2014 with “Mr. Ambiguous” and they have risen to become one of the most talented and recognized rookie girl groups for their strong vocals.
