Starship Ent. Acquires Acting Agency King Kong Entertainment

Starship Entertainment recently acquired the shares of King Kong Entertainment, one of the best domestic acting agencies, and officially has begun its move on markets across Asia.

On May 20, a representative of Starship Entertainment stated, “We have signed a partnership contract with King Kong Entertainment to acquire 100 percent of their shares.”

King Kong Entertainment is an actor-centered management agency that houses the stars Kim Bum, Yoo Yeon Soek, Lee Dong Wook, Lee Kwang Soo, Kim Ji Won, and more.



A representative of Starship Entertainment stated, “King Kong Entertainment is one of the domestic management companies that both manages and produces star content. King Kong Entertainment will not change its independent management but will aid in marketing across Asia through the synergy of working together.”

Prior to this, Starship Entertainment signed a mutual contract with Yuehwa Entertainment last April and started reaching out to markets in China.

Yuehwa Entertainment was established in June of 2009, managing music, movies, drama production, artists, idols, promotion and planning, and entertainment marketing. It houses many Chinese artists, and recently debuted its rookie group UNIQ in 2014.

Officials say that the synergy between Yuehwa Entertainment and King Kong Entertainment is also expected to be huge. With SISTAR currently doing great in the K-pop industry, K.Will earning the name as one of the best vocalists, Lee Kwang Soo getting the nickname “Prince of Asia,” and many more actors performing well in both domestic and Chinese movies, their synergy may surpass domestic businesses and affect those across the world.

Meanwhile, Starship Entertainment will take its first step into Asian markets with the acquirement of King Kong Entertainment.

that's the first thing I thought about, with Monsta X's debut and BF South America tour and now this, Starship has proven that they've got money, I wonder why Sistar's Touch n Move album packaging was so bad then?

Oh yeah, p. much every sistar fan that I've talked to about this really hated that album packaging. Even ppl who don't care about sistar took the time to stop and laugh at how ugly it was. Most of us are def on the edge of our seats waiting to see how this comeback treats sistar in light of MX's debut

true their physical sales are pretty low and I'd understand if the album packaging was just plain, a jewel case with a little photobook but instead Touch n Move was seriously ugly. Like they purposely tried to make it look bad. I mean, just on the cover was a silhouette of the girls but for some reason they felt the need to inflate the size of Hyolyn's boobs and whittle Dasom's waist down to cartoonish proportions. One of the other criticisms I see a lot is how there's so much wasted space in the photobook, it kinda made it look like a book of stickers. And frankly, I get that they'd want to save money but the package they ended up having DID waste money because lots of int'l fans (me included) refused to buy the album physically precisely because it looked ridic.

edit: and there are groups that sell less than sistar and still manage to have decently designed albums plus the fact that sistar makes lots of money in other ways. There's really no excuse for starship to not invest in an album that doesn't repel the fans that sistar already has.

yeah, I may have seen outdated or wrong data, but from what I saw they pretty much have the same selling power when it comes to their physical releases, sistar sold more albums overall because they released more material, and although some sistar releases sold more than miss A's, from what I saw if you compare releases individually by type/year etc miss A sold more than them, so in the end of the day both sell around the same time and suffer from the same problem.

that sounds about right. i only brought it up because no one would suggest that miss a should cheap out on album quality just because they have a small-ish fandom, i feel like sistars reputation for bad sales is just getting exaggerated and unfair at this point lol

tbh their bad reputation for physical sales, much like miss A's, is an unfortunate and incredibly sad truth 😂 groups like exid, lovelyz and oh my girl apparently are outselling them both.

and tbh, miss A's album packaging is very low/bad compared to the boys of the company, only with this comeback they upgraded and gave something better for the girls.
