Midst ongoing controversy surrounding his ex-girlfriend, Kim Hyun Joong has quietly enlisted for his mandatory military service.

The singer-actor arrived at the site of the enlistment ceremony around noon KST on May 12. He arrived at the training camp in a van with his manager and a few people from his company, KeyEast. Numerous fans and reporters were present at the gate, but he entered the camp privately without any special event or announcement.

An acquaintance of Kim Hyun Joong told Newsen, “He entered the camp in the car, like everyone else. He will be part of the enlistment ceremony at 2 p.m. We are sorry that he couldn’t say goodbye to the fans who showed up.”

Many fans showed up at the site with signs that read, “We are only Kim Hyun Joong’s fan,” and “Kim Hyun Joong! Please be safe, we are waiting because it’s you.” Fans from China and Japan, among other countries, were reportedly present to catch a last glimpse of their star.

Famous actor and KeyEast representative Bae Yong Joon accompanied him to the ceremony. Along with KeyEast’s executives and associates from Japan, they had a meal together in a restaurant close to the camp.

After completing his basic training, Kim Hyun Joong will serve in the military as an active-duty soldier. He is expected to be discharged on February 11, 2017.
