Well there are still a few plot holes but the whole thing feels more cohesive and smooth. But wow, that one scene of Taehyung is pretty intense, I didn't think it'd be that graphic. Props to Big Hit for not half-assing things.
I want to cuddle Jungkook and protect him from all the bad guys :(
I want to cuddle Jungkook and protect him from all the bad guys :( That scene made me cry the most. Why the sweet, cute maknae out all the people? I wanted to protect him so fucking badly :(. I know it's all fictional but it made me feel so impotent.
-screams- So some people were right about the lollipop with Rap Monster. The V scene was really shocking, I knew he must have killed the guy but wow they went all in. Jimin crying in the tub and J-Hope collapsing with people just driving past and him lying there were what got me wanting to bake them all cookies. They were pretty far with Jungkook's beating too.
Overall I can see why Bang PD cried watching this. His babies xD
i thought that it would be an mv on how a girl ruined bangtan but i was proved wrong. to me, it felt like bangtan's portrayal of today's youth - hurt, depression, violence, abuse, addiction, pain, anger, hurt etc that were all swept under the rugs by adults. the mv was definitely hard to watch for me at some parts, but it definitely did portrayed the hard and aching parts of one's youth.
jeongguk's and taehyung's scene were really intense. jimin's scene totally broke me apart i can't believe i actually cried when i saw him crying. kudos to bighit for not half-assing the entire mv. now i can understand why bang pd cried watching it.
edit: justice for jin because he's an acting major but he doesn't get any proper acting scenes?
tldr: i felt that this mv was a remarkable one. bighit didn't give bangtan a cliche romantic angst mv but instead gave us the real meaning and portrayal of the best moment in one's life - youth.
edit edit (wtf): i rewatched the mv again and jin's part felt symbolic with the flowers on the floor and on his chest??? it felt like jin was the guardian angel of bangtan?????? when the lollipop rap mon sucked turned out to be a cigarette hA surprise surprise it was a good twist.
it's nice to see how bangtan musically matured and never strayed from what they had extremely opinions about - sociey and youths. like how i need u is a song about an unhealthy relationship and this 19+ mv tops it off.
there were some fans talking about the symbolism of the flower; they said in korea it's believed that if you fall asleep with flowers in your room you'll die of asphyxiation...?
idk much about it personally but i think a good number of fans thought that was the angle they intended for jin to have in the mv ;/ which makes it even more tragic, ofc.
Holy fuck, this is probably the saddest and darkest MV I've seen by a boy band along with My Name's Baby I'm Sorry. I'm crying my eyes out now. My poor babies, this was so fucking painful to watch T_____T.
They're very brave for treating controversial topics like abuse, drugs, graphic violence, suicide, etc...specially being so young. Most of groups their age just do light hearted/fun concepts.
It's Namjoon and Jin's scenes that got to me tbh. I'm still unsure about what happened to Jimin...All in all, this is a beautiful and deep MV that shows the striking contrast between how one's youth is supposed to be (careless, happy) and how the reality works:(
I didn't understand the parts where they were all together having fun either. That was supposed to be before they all ruined their lives, right? And they're all supposed to die then? There's definitely some plot holes there.
Well fuck. I'm still not quite sure what the storyline is but it's definitel;y a lot more cohesive and aesthetically pelasing. The shots of Jimin are my favorite, the vulnerability in his scenes is amazing. Holy shit, did not see the part with V coming Did J-Hope overdose? Suga is a pyromaniac IDK what RapMon and Kookie were doing I read this explanation for Jin's death the way jin dies is by white lilies bc koreans say that white lilies have such suffocating scent and their oxygen intake is higher than most flowers, so you can die by sleeping in a room full of white lilies.
JHope's story hit me the hardest. I know those feelings too well. Your world is collapsing around you and you're giving up but the rest of the world continues on, indifferent. Ugghhh chills
The video might become my favourite. The contrast of the carefree, jovial moments and the dark realities is jarring.
The contrast of the carefree, jovial moments and the dark realities is jarring +1000 If this MV doesn't win MV of the year I'll stop believing in these "important" music shows awards. This is a total masterpiece tbh.
bighit's "soon" renews my faith in the word. so basically i'm less confused, but even more depressed, so bravo. everyone died and instead of campfire heaven they went to sea heaven, ok. jimin's part really stood out to me tho. wow, get him in some dramas. they all did really well, though. taehyung's part, omg. i mean i figured there would be some murdering going on but he went in like they were on hbo, wtf.
hmm, a lot of these stories feel very open to interpretation, but it doesn't feel on purpose. this editing job is not the one. at the same time i kind of like it, though, because i enjoy reading what stood out to people, and what it means to them.
From a youtube commenter: "Omg my prediction about the whole story was correct. Suga was so depressed he brunt the whole motel, he couldnt take it anymore so he is burning all their problems away. Rapmon, the lollipop represented cigar, which was probably why the costumer threw the money on the ground as what rp did was so dangerous that the gas station exploded. Jhope was overdosed. V had a bastard father who kept hurting his mom and he couldn't take it anymore. Because of what he did, he got sentenced to death. Jungkook got hit by the car. And jimin drowned himself. All of them died except for Jin. The flowers he placed on the floor represented the boys and he burnt them to represent that they can finally rest in peace and an finally forget all of their problems. He was the only one who live. He was lying in bed remembering all the moments they spent together. the boys wanted him to live for them"
Wow.. the quality, aesthetics, and themes were just top notch. I think the best MVs always leave some things open for interpretation and this is no exception.
I feel like this MV is showing how the darkness of youth highlights the light. At first, I thought they all died, but now I don't think so. Suga was self-destructive(pyromaniac), J-hope had the sleeping pills, Jungkook ran away from home, Jimin contemplated drowning himself, Jin contemplated suffocating himself, V killed a man, and Rapmon was self destructive (smoking). Those were the dark moments, but they overcame them all (I think).
Suga let his anger explode, but he walked away almost stronger because of it. J-hope threw his pills into the fire. Jungkook got beat up, but he didn't give into despair, and still remained defiant. Jimin tried to drown himself, but he popped back above water. No matter how sad he was, he still wanted to live. Jin (if the flowers meant suffocation), walked over to the window in his room, which I interpret as his choice not to suffocate.
V...I'm not entirely sure he killed the guy. I kind of think it was all in his mind. At the end of the attack, the other guy's hand rested on top of V's, as if to say "it's enough". It struck me as odd. i need to rewatch it again, but I think there's more to the scene. And finally with Rapmon, I think he wasn't satisfied with where he was in life. He was smoking, and pumping gas as a job, and then the customer disrespectfully throws money out of the window and drives off. At that moment, I think Rapmon chooses to see or want more out of life and drops is lolli-cig onto the money, as if to destroy them both.
The scenes of them together just further highlights the high points of youth, made brighter by their darker personal struggles. That or they're all dead and I'll throw myself into the fangirl river of angst. >_>
After I rewatched it, I'm kind of wondering if Taehyung attacked/killed his father. In the very beginning, he was sitting outside of some dingy apartments next to bottles of alcohol. Then later after walking around he arrives at another dingy apartment (which could be the same place) and goes inside as if he belongs there. The woman looks old enough to be his mother, and there were also alcohol bottles inside, which he grabbed to attack the man (boyriend/father). So maybe Tae's storyline is that he comes from an abusive household, and the darkness is the attack, but the light is him protecting his mother and taking back control of his life? Maybe.
Honestly I was underwwhelmed by this and kind wish they'd just released it at the same time as the normal MV (I appreciate that given it's more graphic nature they were never going to release this as the final mv)
Idk i was hoping for some explanation as to what was going on, like what happened to split them up after they were happy in the past? Was the breakdown of friendship the reason they were so upset? Does the song haave any relevance to the music video?
Ahh well, it's still far and away the best Bangtan mv so far
(it's just something for laughs lol, but i can pretty much see why big hit had to make the song lyrics a love story, cos it'll get them more fans i guess)
God dammit Taehyung :( Jiminnie :(((( OT7 ;_____; Taehyung spitting skills though, I didn't expect that. I also really appreciate Jin's full face shot at the end, A+.
Ok so now's the time to move on to Sunggyu's MVs fml.
Between this and BB's "Loser," I'm going to need a club banger video stat from both groups. I love this video but wow, BH wasn't kidding when they said it would be dark.
I thought I was the only one who saw the similarities between Loser and I need u, both are about people struggling and suffering for different reasons, and that loneliness and dispair feeling, but I felt that I need u is even wilder, sadder and darker.
i knew the story is still gonna be convoluted and confusing af even when the full version is out, cos i think that's what theyre aiming for. there isnt a single correct meaning to it, and the viewer is left free to take away whatever they want from the mv, however they want.
sad that in big hit's aim to get bangtan mainstream recognition, they had to pander to the female audiences in the lyrics, but the message of the mv to me is that someone's youth is both beautiful, cruel, full of confusion and self discovery. young ppl have it hard to varying degrees and sometimes they win, sometimes they dont, but it is still possible to be happy. also, i think they're trying to convey that even if you're suffering, you're not the only one doing so and it's possible to find companionship/friends
Someone pls correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't BTS's lyrics always "pandered to the female audiences"? "Boy in Luv", "War of Hormone", "Danger," hell a good majority of their discography seems to be aimed at 'getting the girl'. I do agree, however, that there is a bit of dissonance between the lyrics of I Need U and the video. I wasn't expecting this level of angst from lyrics about a girl doing them dirty.
Then again, the lyrics could also be aimed at Knetizens/Korean fans. BTS needs them but they can be so cold and cruel too lol.
BIG HIT IMMA NEED SICK TO BE THE FOLLOW UP SINGLE AFTER THIS, I NEED SOMETHING STUPID AND IN YOUR FACE, WE ARE AWESOME, MINDLESS DANCE BOMB AFTER THIS MINDFUCK, KTHXBYE
