Mino to be a contestant on "Show Me the Money 4"

YG Entertainment‘s boy group Winner‘s rapper Mino has applied to “Show Me the Money 4.”

A representative from Mnet told the media on April 29 that “Mino has applied as a contestant through the application.”

They further added, “He will compete on the show like everyone else. He will be judged fairly along with other competitors. We won’t prefer one contestant over another for being an idol or a famous rapper.”

YG’s Yang Hyun Suk commented, “Bobby and B.I participated in the show last year before their debut and Bobby even won. As Mino has already debuted as a singer, it will be a difficult challenge for him.”

He further continued, “I told him to compete from the bottom as a rapper, and not as a YG artist. He will be competing as the ‘rapper Song Mino,’ not the ‘Winner Song Mino.’”

“Show Me the Money 4″ will premiere in June.

YG didn't even agree with Mino joining at first. It was Mino himself who begged to be allowed to compete.

He'll get hate for sure but he's a big boy. He'll get to showcase his talent and word play as a rapper and not just a member of a rookie boy group.

I was convinced YG wouldn't allow this....smfh....Like Bobby and Hanbin were a different story they still didn't have a big fandom because mostly YGE fans knew of them, they got fame more after SMTM and M&M especially Bobby, they were trainees who really weren't considered that great by most people, but Mino is already in an established idol group, he is already praised and acknowledged for his skills even before this debut since he had some underground experience (albeit as a kid but still), he doesn't need to prove anything. On top of it he'll be associated with 2 or 3 judging teams. This is a mess and train wreck waiting to happen.

Like YG to pull this once, ok, they were trainees unknown to most people especially hip hop fans so I get it, but this time....I feel bad for Mino because he'll get too much backlash unless he's dropped before the audience voting kicks in, but then again he was the one who insisted on it and begged YG so I guess he'll need to learn to deal with it. Shame cause he's already praised for his skills.

It's upto Mino. He'll have to prove that he really is that good to avoid audience backlash. Idek what he wants (recognition by his peers maybe?) but whatever it is he better do this damn well. Cause this season has some strong competition.

I'm excited for more of Mino (really curious to see what he does separate from Winner), but I'm not ready for all the drama that's going to come. Hopefully he has fun and gets what he wants out of it. Hopefully by the time this airs I'll be able to enjoy the drama instead of being upset that it's happening in my fandom.

Oh, it's gonna be a mess. I'm going to watch every minute of it and avoid his tag in tumblr where the fans might get crazy and weird.

I think they need to change the whole system of the show with so many known people. Maybe they need to say bye bye to that whole audition segment because everyone knows who is going to be on and then work on the structure of the rest of the show. I kept feeling like the rules and everything were really weird last year.

Zico judging is a mess, since his brother and Mino are involved, but Mino has been on a song with two judges, the other judging team are YG execs, and in a group with Zico.

I expect he'll catch hell from everyone and I wish he decided he didn't need this like LE did because it might do more harm than good.

And it's another survival show...but I hope he gets whatever he's seeking out of it since he begged YG

On the plus side this probably means Winner has enough songs done for their next comeback in the fall

aww man, when I said I want Winner to be in more variety shows, I didnt wish for THIS kind of variety show. Did I just pray to a wrong god? Im excited and scared at the same time. Damn it.

On another note, Im actually surprised that YG is letting Winner members doing solo project one by one quite early in their carreer. Within the span of few weeks, we got news about Taehyun webdrama, Yoon webdrama and now this. YG is probably have a "lowkey" favoritism toward Winner. Well that's probably just me.

i've always though yg favors both winner & ikon--just in different ways. i believe yg sees the "could go on to be solo entities in music and acting a la big bang" far more in the winner members than ikon at this stage. the staging at mama was the first big hint for me.

I'm so conflicted about this.

Mino is very talented and definitely a better rapper than Bobby, but with the judges being so many people from YG + his old friend Zico (what a joke lol) i think this can only end up being a mess.

But what's done is done, I'm excited to see Mino on tv, I hope he shades Zico a lot >:).
