BTS Interview with Cool Magazine [Feb 2015]



Part 1 We are Hip-Hoppers!

Cool: What is the most difficult thing when it comes to standing on stage? How do you overcome it?
Suga: Everyone maintains a sincere attitude towards the stage so it can be quite stressful. But since the members are together there’s not much anxiety.
Rap Monster: When we first debuted, our excitement was actually greater than our nervousness. Afterwards we slowly gained experience, we had increasing thoughts and always wanted to do even better so we can only practice even more. Rest assured the kids are performing very well.

Cool: For the songs you have released so far, which one was the hardest?
Rap Monster: No matter what, it’s Danger (looks at the members)
Suga: Really, whether it’s the song itself or the dance, it really is the hardest work from us.
J-Hope: Even though it has always been lives, this song always gives us the stress of “if we’re not careful, something bad will happen”
Jin: We really like this song so every time we’re on stage, we all keep in mind that we treasure this so we work hard to complete it
J-Hope: Wow, that’s a cool way of saying that (everyone claps for Jin)

Cool: You have quite some popularity in China. When you came here this time, what was the most obvious change?
J-Hope: Speaking of that, I was actually shocked when we came here for the first time
V: Wow! So many people!
Rap Monster: We’ve never had promotions like this before but the first time we came to China, we saw a lot of people that know us and fans that welcomed us. We were super touched. Afterwards it was because of fansigns and award shows that now it’s our 4th time in China. We see more and more supporters so we feel blessed.
Suga: Also a bit flustered. We’re about to have our concert in China so we must focus and practice harder so the fans that like us will be happy.

Cool: Are there any praises you long to hear?
Suga: Of course it’s “the singing is really good!” and these type of praises. It feels very empowering when you hear that.
V: (Raises both hands) That’s right, that’s right. What does noona think of our singing?
Cool: Very good (Gives thumbs up and all the members cheer)
Rap Monster: Thank you, we will work hard.

Cool: You have a lot of noona fans. They always say that you’re so cute. Compared to “cute” (meng), what adjectives do you tend to describe yourself with?
Rap Monster: (Proudly) Sexy
(Not sure why but everyone turns to J-Hope)
J-Hope: (Chinese) Handsome guy!

Cool: Hey… that being the case, since you’ve come to mainland China for promotions, let me hear some Chinese you have learned.
Rap Monster: Hot pot
Jungkook: Roast duck
Jin: (Enunciating) You’ve worked hard
J-Hope: Thank you
Suga: Hot pot
Jimin: 么么哒 [T/N: used to express feeling of really loving other people]
V: Cute!


Part 2 Red Bullet

Cool: Which mainland singer’s songs can you sing the best?
Rap Monster: Speaking of Chinese songs, maknae is still the best at it.
Cool: Didn’t he sing Leehom Wang’s “Sun and Moon in my Heart” at the press conference?
Jungkook: (Shy) Ah, I only practiced it a bit since I like it. I can’t say I sing it very well.
Suga: Everyone likes different Chinese sings….
(Shouting in answers like Jay Chou, JJ Lin, Super Junior-M, etc)

Cool: Your schedule is very busy. What do you want to do the most at this moment?
(Silent for a second)
V: Sleep! (Super loud)

Cool: Even though you’ve been to Singapore, LA, etc, it’s all for work. If you can go on vacation, where do you want to go the most?
Rap Monster: Hawaii
Jungkook: Shanghai
Jin: Shanghai
J-Hope: Hawaii
Suga: Zhangjiajie. I went there when I was little but I want to go again
Jimin: Shanghai?
V: Great! Wall! Of! China!

Cool: Tips to relieve stress?
Jimin: It’s absolutely sleep

Cool: What’s your most precious thing?
J-Hope: I’ll say something that everyone will agree with, money.
Cool: ….. Applause (Slowly everyone starts clapping)

Cool: What hopes do you have for the development of the group?
Suga: Leader should answer this question?
Rap Monster: The kids have done very well so far. Let me save myself from worrying in the future and let’s move forward together.
Everyone: Yes!!

Cool: Do you have any special anticipation for the mainland activities in the future?
Rap Monster: Right now our company and the company in mainland is working together. The China stop for our tour is nearing. We also hope that through active promotions, more mainland fans will like us BTS. We also hope more people will know BTS. We will work hard to make the charms of BTS affect even more people. We will work positively in every mainland activity. Chinese ARMY, please look forward to it!


Part 3 Qualifications of Invulnerability

Cool: Jin is used to be known for being shy. How did you do what you did today?
Jin: Ah… ah? Shy……
Cool: I have chatted with your dance teacher during your trainee period, Ms. Lee Kyang Jin
Jin: So it’s like that…. Well, I have a desire for dance and I want to see ‘how far I can go.’ So after changing, I’m more suited for dance.

Cool: You were once Mokpo’s best dancer J-Hope, and now you’re an outstanding rapper. What kind of efforts did you put in that ordinary people cannot imagine?
J-Hope: This you also know… At that time the company thought I needed to change. I also thought that myself but there were no other ways but just to practice. Now that I look at it, it’s good that I stuck with it so I’m here now.

Cool: Suga couldn’t come to China the end of last year for your first performance. Will you make up for it at this year’s concert?
Suga: It really was such a shame I couldn’t meet the mainland fans the first time. So from now on, I do not wish to miss anymore Chinese performances and not to feel regretful. I will put in 10x the effort so that ARMYs that are waiting for me will be happy.

Cool: In China, there are many noona fans of Jimin that call you “oppa”. What do you have to say to that?
Jimin: Hehehe, you guys are cute.
V: Piu piu! (shooting bullets)

Cool: V-gun, you performed a crazy dance at the press conference yesterday. Why did you do that?

V: Doesn’t noona think it’s special? That’s my charms!


Part 4

Cool: 2 years ago, how was the member to your left like?
Rap Monster: Maknae ah. He’s wasn’t this handsome, but was already very smart.
Jungkook: Jin hyung didn’t like to talk much and cooked really well
Jin: To my left… two years ago, he wasn’t as lively as now
J-Hope: Suga ah… 2 years ago his mouth was obviously not this good
Suga: (Snappy) If it wasn’t because of you kids…. Ah, Jimin didn’t change too much. He was probably a bit more gentle 2 years ago but he has always been very kind-hearted.
Jimin: (Hugs Suga and does aegyo) Taehyung? 2 years ago? (Looks up and shakes head) Cu… cute?
V: Our leader has been very reliable two years ago!
Rap Monster: Can you not laugh while you say that? It’s a very serious question!

Cool: Who has a sharp tongue?
All: Suga
Jimin: You can mess with anyone, just not Suga hyung. He will give you a lesson.
Jin: During crucial moments, Suga’s scoffing is quite useful. In other words, he’s someone that thinks a lot about the problem.

Cool: If you can only bring 1 member, who will you bring to a deserted island.
All: Suga
Rap Monster: Even if you throw him to Marks (op note: i think he meant Mars), he’ll still live very well
Jimin: Suga hyung’s self-management skills is very strong. If he really goes to a deserted island, I shamelessly need to follow hyung if I want to live.
V & Jungkook: That’s right. Hyung bring me!

Cool: Who’s the aegyo king?
All: V
J-Hope: I assume there’s no objection to this. Look at his face.
V: Piu piu! (shoots bullets)

Cool: Who has the biggest appetite?
(All points to Jin)
Cool: But he’s so skinny…..
Jin: It’s a bit embarrassing but I actually eat the most
Jimin: And doesn’t get fat
Cool: In Chinese we have an idiom called “neng zhe duo lao” (Those who are the most able are given the most work). Since Jin’s cooking is good so eating is also…
Jin: No matter what, thank you

Cool: Who’s the most innocent (pure heart)?
(All points to Rap Monster)
Suga: Leader is a very innocent person or should I say he doesn’t care?

Cool: Who loves to show off?
(All points to V)
J-Hope: Might as well say he’s stubborn

Cool: Who’s the most emotional person?
(All ponts to V)
Suga: I get so annoyed by him all day long, but it’s also because of him that I don’t get bored. He’s just often a headache.
J-Hope: He’s someone that doesn’t listen

Cool: Who is usually the mood maker?
(All points to J-Hope)
Cool: I felt that during filming
Jimin: We can play very well by ourselves but J-Hope hyung’s existence makes all of us happy.

Cool: Who’s the strictest in managing his own image?
(All points to V)
Rap Monster: It’s fashion everywhere and anywhere. I don’t even know much we have to suffer everyday!

Lol at the 2nd team being made to draw Yoo Jaesuk and E.T when the first group just had to draw Olaf and a sheep. I still have yet to figure out which Spongebob character V was trying to imitate lmao. "J-Hope hyung’s existence makes all of us happy" d'awwww this was a cute read.
