In a recent broadcast of Moon Hee Jun‘s Real 15 via Mnet, EXID‘s Hani and Solji made an appearance as a guest where Hani confessed she wants to follow a new career path.

On the show, Moon Hee Jun questioned Hani on whether she will continue her career as a singer and idol, to which she replied that she will continue being an artist until her current contract ends. Hani’s answer shocked not only the audience but fellow member Solji as well who seemed unaware of it.

Hani continues to reveal that she wants to follow a different career path after her idol days are done, specifically psychotherapy, an area that she is interested in pursuing and studying. But with the topic brought up, Hani began to shed tears as she explained the hard life that comes with being an idol.

Training to be an idol since she was 18 years old, Hani shared that she has had to compete against her friends, an experience that Moon Hee Jun is familiar with as he was part of one of the most popular 1st generation idol group, H.O.T.

To this, one understanding netizen wrote, “Its not the mental, physical hardships that idols go through.. what is it… it’s the fact that you always have to carry the scarlet letter (burden) at all times and the endless objectivity of a human being, and at sometimes humiliating and hurting comments. So basically Jjirasi (refers to unconfirmed insider information circulating around Korea) is the scarlet letter that pressures Hani. With many unconfirmed rumors circulating, it must be hard for Hani to try and please the public.”

I think it's great that she has a set goal on what to pursue post-idol life. She's a smart girl and if she saves well, she could fund her own education post-career.And I don't blame anyone for wanting to leave idol life tbh
Now Queen Solji was clearly put on this earth to bless us with her voice

I hope she finds self-fulfillment and happiness in whatever she chooses to do in the future. It's not easy being a public figure. People often forget the bts activities and the years they had to go through first as trainees.

it was a bit of a surprise to read that she wants to leave idol life but i'm happy she has a clear goal in mind. too many idols rely on the industry to carry them forever when its just not reasonable.
it was kind of cute that solji reacted the way she did. love y'all but exid isn't forever.

Yeah, she seems really uncomfortable with her new-found fame, so it makes sense, even though I'd rather hear her say something along the lines of "considering pursuing a career in psychotherapy after my idol career is over" instead of that she plans on not renewing her contract.

When does Hani's contract end? I need EXID to go on for a few more years at least. I wonder if she'll change her mind when her contract comes up for renewal.

could be 2-3 years since they debuted in 2012, but they also transferred to yedang ent. recently and articles said they 'signed an exclusive contract' so they might have as many as 5 years left

i think she's happy she and exid are successful, but she doesn't like the focus being solely on her and she doesn't want to be in the spotlight forever

exid are in a good place right now + they seem happy together so i doubt they'll leave their company, which means they should have another couple of years

she always looked uncomfortable with the attention she was getting and the reason for it (her body and sexy dance). add that rumour and I can see why she doesn't want the idol life anymore..

I understand her. Idol groups don't last forever. Most of them actually dissapear in 5~10 years.

i wonder how difficult it is for a former idol to establish themselves in a non-entertainment career. a friend of a friend of mine used to be in a reality show as a teenager and later had a lot of trouble in university because her professors refused to take her research seriously just because of that...hani seems like a great person, i really hope she'll be able to achieve her goals.

well.. many idols are taking graduate studies in korea so i dont think she'll have any trouble with her education post-idol life.

They debuted in February 2012, so she has at maximun under four years left in the entertainment industry. Her group mates need to start making moves to establish themselves as currently Hani is the most popular member.

God she even just get the fame and she's already done
just more evidence that idol's life is miserable and not comfortable at all
and maybe the main reason is that blind items

Not surprised at all, observing her after burst in popularity, she was clearly very uncomfortable with this kind attention the fancam generated.

Maybe it's just a phase she's going through. That huge pressure of being under constant public scrutiny is relatively new to her so maybe she just needs time to adjust to this new situation. Maybe that wish to go into psychotherapy is rooted in her own needs right now, her need to rest and heal. I hope her company is taking good care of her and the other EXID girls.

She's such a beautiful human being just for considering that career path, though. Having that intention to give strength to other people and help them overcome their problems is really kind of her. No matter if she wants to go on being an idol for a bit longer than her current contract of if she decides to quit in just a few years, one can only wish her strength and happiness for her idol and post-idol future!

nah shes talked about this a couple times before, even before their rise to fame, i think she made up her mind about it after their debut

That says a lot about the pressure she's had even before their debut and the time before their breakthrough. I think it's really important for her to have an alternative plan for the future because that helps a lot with coping with her present life as an idol and having a different perspective on it.

i dont blame her at all. she looks v uncomfortable whenever people make gross references to her fancam. and shes had so much hate since her fame i.e. that blind item, people getting mad about her joking about her mom, that gross nb article about her brother in the army...etc. i think shes just...not really idol material, shes thin skinned and dorky, and thats why ilher but shes in for a rough few years

I really like Hani - she seems like someone you could be really good friends with and would listen to all of your problems, and a very hard worker. It must be very hard for her to be in this situation, especially when you have all the debts from being a trainee and a contract, and even with growing popularity it's really uncomfortable. Psychotherapy especially in South Korea's climate is such a kind and noble thing to pursue.

I don't blame her at all tbh, groups from small agencies struggle so much for even scraps of success when they don't have the media play machines of the Big 3 behind them. Exid is actually talented but still struggled for so long that only now have they even earned enough money to eat well with, and they still have debts. Plus she kills it onstage but her reward for that is gross comments and rumours about her sleeping her way up (a lot like there used to be about Hyuna).

I'd gtfo too, if I was her. I just hope she makes enough money to pay off her debts and fund her educatio first.

You do you, Hani. Psychotherapy is a great field. I hope her idol history won't keep people from taking her seriously. lbr some people will probably underestimate/mock her, but she works hard and her heart seems to be in it so I have faith those qualities will shine through.

I feel bad for her for being in such an awkward and difficult position. She's the most well known member of her group currently, and she is the reason for her group's increased exposure. People will likely expect her to be grateful, without considering the harmful effects of their objectifying comments about her. Glad she has her goal set out and I hope she will not feel obligated to stay an idol when it comes time to renew her contract.

i binge watched a TON of exid videos the other day (fancams, variety shows, everything) and theyre all adorable. i never knew that hani was so academically smart, its never in the comments of her articles or anything like that.

ill be sad whenever exid ends but its relieving to know that she has plans for the future, and im sure the others will have tons of things to do. its nice to see that the other exid members are gaining popularity too

Wow I'm surprised by that since they just got their big break with that fancam.
Although I do understand that people tend to dehumanize idols and write hateful things about them without any thoughts.
Realistically, I think she's going to be here for at least 4 more years. She did leak out that EXID was still in debt (trainee fees) with their company. Their company would want to have that debt paid Plus interest aka Return on investment. It's wouldn't make business sense for the company to let her leave when they break even.

I know Hani is uncomfortable with the new massive attention, especially since the maknae was placed into that role at the beginning of debut. I hope she adjusts to the attention :) Whatever she decides to do after her idol life is up to her.

Well that's what she was studying before and she didn't originally have intentions to be an idol (like she failed the audition then left for uni then got recruited by SSD Tiger) so I can understand

Imo there isn't really a reason for a group to exist longer than that unless they've expanded like SNSD or 2PM but that might just be me trying to protect myself from feeling sad about this lmao
