Eh he's a young guy and he's been pushed in the lime light. He's bound to say dumb stuff now and then. People are being way too overly critical for mostly harmless stuff.
Fight the power, don't take a shower. Maybe his statement is translated clunky but it sounded really....stupid to me. I'm no expert but I thought hip hop was commentary on socio, political and racial issues. It is a culture but wording it as not taking a shower or high fiving friends is a bit...idk
I sometimes worry that Bobby will get too obsessed with all these 'idol-rapper' shennanigans. I just wish he had more of a carefree attitude towards it and embrace it in a "laugh-it-off" manner. I guess easier said than done. Still, it feels that with all these statements he's walking on thin ice =/
He looks good from what little yo can actually see of him, damn editing I like this interview a lot more than his past ones and I like that he's transparent about not thinking about rap/hiphop before debut, but developing his interest through YG and B.I (who's interest in music I wanna know more about tbh) His take on hiphop is pretty right to me, hopefully he sticks along those lines than just 'hip hop is swag' bs.
Also, we want raw /music/ out of hiphop not raw asses. Wash yourself Kimbap
oh so he's one of those. I mean part of me is kinda proud that he chose 'Bobby' because of Bob Marley bc as Jamaican I know we a speck on the ocean and for so many people and countries to love part of our culture is awesome, but part of me thinks it's more the stoner persona he's admiring. I could be wrong. I think at this point everyone has already made their mind up about Bobby and so I think he's just not bothered.
His view on hip hop is a bit...odd? He needs to grow more to understand what it's really about. And I'm a bit surprised YG doesn't really allow the idol rappers to write their lyrics for hep hap? I thought they were given freedom to write their own stuff.
"Go to school right away without showering, this is also hip-hop, it's just raw."
He sounds really stupid and egotistical, a bad combination (all this "my pride, my pride, my pride" - he hasn't even established himself as major rapping talent, why does he think he's owed so much respect, especially considering the advantages he has over most other young struggling idols who don't have YG propping them up?)
And stop trying to explain hip-hop's true essence, it's just embarrassing.
It's only a matter of time before he says something else offensive. This interview just confirmed that I was right to drop him as stan material.
I honestly was expecting worse, so this isn't that bad. bobby seems like a sweet kid who says stupid stuff so I'm not going to hold this interview against him. And that's fine if he wants to defend himself against people who call him 'just an idol rapper'. My problem is when he goes around attacking other idol rappers bc that is childish as hell and unnecessary
also...if bobby moved to the U.S. when he was around 10 years old and moved back after middle school, shouldn't his Korean be pretty fluent? So I don't think its a translation thing...if anything, whoever translated this interview made some mistakes
I don't know where I read it, but a Korean speaking I-fan mentioned that, compared to the other members, his Korean is a lot simpler particularly his vocab/word choice and slang usage. Which makes sense if his formal education in it stopped at 10
He sound stupid and childish. They totally goes against what Bobby stans have been saying that he did hip hop before YG even though he didn't know Eminem.
Since his last interview said hip hop was black culture and he still got downed I think it's safe to say no comment will work. All kpop is try hard and appropiating black culture. I'm just tossing it to the "he is a 18 year old kid and needs speech training" bin.
About Antonio...you will NEVER catch me in St Louis if I can help it. Tbqh after the Police Chief's BS and the video appeared on my TL I had a "Not today Satan" reaction and closed my Twitter...they are just too much in St Louis
Anywho...in context it's clear what he's trying to say but his execution and speaking needs work. That metaphor and example was very poorly done. Could have went for hip hop is a culture and anything you do in life can impact it since he previously said hip hop is black culture. The shower thing could have been turned into an ODB reference or people unable to afford water and showering at school for a poverty reference for example. Otherwise when not showering that rawness is just BO
YG needs some speech coaches. Ya'll can set up a Toastmasters for trainees at least
He's 18 though so I'm not expecting brilliant speech tbqh but some passable comments without sounding foolish would be nice
The interview was pretty harmless Still don't expect much from him cause anyone that learns about hip-hop from an idol company is bound to be problematic.
About Bobby, I think he knows he's an idol but still wants to distance himself from others in the industry because he thinks they might be the personification of those criticisms he got in the past. But, like...ya'll are all trying to do the same thing. You are the same thing. Would also like to tell him it's OK to just say you're still figuring things out rather than trying to sound knowledgable. But, I guess it's not cool to say "I recently got into music and was lucky enough to get into a company at around the same time and now I've decided on rapping."
As a person who watched WIN and Mix & Match the fact that bobby is an ignorant kid is noooo surprise to me. If I was going to judge people for being stupid in kpop there's probably like two people that I would still be a fan of.
That said this interview is harmless, and playboy needs a serious shower. Also speech lessons YG, get your trainee's some this is getting embarrassing. I get that he's 19, but that's not a kid, in a lot of countries he can vote and shit at that age so don't give him the kid pass when he says stuff that makes him sound dumb as rocks.
I like Bobby I really do, I'm a big fan, but he's problematic and dumb and he needs to clean up his act before I'll go on record to truly defend him. I'm starting to fall into the liking him less category and it'll be a shame because he's the only thing I like in iKON.
